There are so many tragic aspects to this mausoleum. It was built for a young, beautiful, vibrant, artistic, 19th century female intellectual who died years before she should have. Her obviously wealthy parents wanted their amazing daughter to have a resting place that equaled the home she enjoyed in life. The fact that her mother arranged intellectual salons which included her departed daughter. Marie’s family very obviously treasured her, encouraged her artistic leanings, and viewed her death as a massive loss - personally and intellectually. Girls were not, in general, valued for their intellectual and artistic talents in the 19th century. Her parents obviously adored her. Her tomb shows it ❤ She wrote, “I am my own heroine.” What a bomb-ass woman 👑
Each of these masoleums is a work of art on the outside and in most cases the inside too. The most idyllic of places to wander all day AND night! Loved your video Cathal! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Just Beautiful!! I would need at least a week to look at every grave. Stunning, just so many works of art!! Even the simplest of graves are just gorgeous!,❤
Most of us love it when you over lap it brings more depth to the visit I think, and you two are getting to be some of the best vidiographers on RUclips and celebrity status is apon you, thanks for all your efforts and hard work.
You and Sue always keep the memories of everyone alive and their history is told through your journeys to places people have almost all but forgotten. Thank you 🙏 both because you are both always so respectful and loving and thoughtful of those who have gone before us. You guys are doing a huge service in my opinion!
The grievinglady. That took some time and great gift to make. Such an elegant cemetary right in the middle of town.😊 you guys picked a really outstanding one. Wow😮 what mausaleums😮. Thanx for a lovely walk through❤😊❤😊
Hi 😄 I'm French myself and follow you, fantastique & had forgotten myself what my cemeteries look like ! Been established in Britain so long now. Keep going, you do a fab job.
Loved the beautiful tombs, they all have stories, our cemeteries here in the US aren't nearly as elegant and detailed, and elaborate as the ones there. Thanks for the beautiful walks through the cemeteries in Paris, you have a beautiful voice. Have a blessed rest of the week 😊
Curiously in the US there is a focus on enbalming the body. Preserving it for what? The European ideal of recalling the deceased life, and joy, seems much better.
@@wendymorrison5803 embalming the body and preserving it would also be done for different reasons. Including how long the body was left autopsy etc. Preserved for a long trip or funeral arrangements.
I am so grateful/thankful to see these graves are graffiti-free! It would be heartbreaking to see these beautiful remembrances stained with graffiti. They’re truly works of art. Heck, I’d buy a book that was just pics of the DOORS of the mausoleums! 😊 This has been a lovely series. And, yes, I’m subscribed to both you AND Serenity Sue! ❤️❤❤
France is not infested with the animals we have here in the US. I suspect that unlike the US, France would deal harshly with those who desecrate graves.
Singapore has the correct punishment for such wanton vandalism. Too bad this is not practiced throughout the civilized world. Such vandalism would come to an end. I enjoy your work.@@GraveVisitations
The statue of Grief was incredible! The stained glass mesmerizing! It takes years to speak, read, and write French. You already know one of the most difficult languages to learn…English. Who would expect you to be fluent in French? You are fine, don’t listen to anyone being mean or snarky. You are great as you are! 😊 Thank you, GV ❤❤❤❤
Very interesting crypt. I guess it hearkens back to the days when people made a special trip to honor and remember their deceased loved ones. In this particular case, comfort while visiting had high priority. I've seen some mausoleums in New York (USA) Catholic cemetaries with altars in them, ostensibly for conducting Mass. Thank you very much.
That living room was amazing. Do you know if she requested it so family would be comfortable when visiting or did her family do it for her out of love? Sad so many young lives seem cut short but maybe they are being spared of what was to come. Maybe we will know by and by.❤ Thank you for taking us along with you. Love & Light to all.💥🙏💥
I could get lost in graveyards like this one. So many to see ...so little time😊..thanx GV for making it possible to see such beauty and stories and monuments. God bless see you on next video❤😂❤😂
It seems that in France they put more than just coffins in their mausoleums, unlike us. Their mausoleums are like 8:23 little home from homes, with chairs for the dead to sit in and with photos and flowers here and there, they have the hint of "parlour" about them 😊
WOW this video is wonderfull, ive only seen staimed glass on the original E Presley Tomb in forest hills cemetry, the memorials suoerb here- enjoyed your commentary
Oh I like walking around cemeteries but this one is amazing the monuments and stained glass windows are really special they must be off affluent people .I would go to Paris just to walk around this beautiful place which many people would just ignore ?
Beautiful cemetery, you do a great job love the accent it’s awesome. Time to self promote. I mow many cemeteries for a living. They are a nice place to work and the customers are pretty chill. My company’s green mountain boys landscaping.
I love it when you and Serenity Sue look in the mausoleums there has been many different things in them that peek peoples interest and show us a little bit of what those peoples lives were like and also stained glass windows. Thank you for the videos love them
This cemetery is absolutely exceptional. I would have visited when I was there’s few times. I loved the beautiful statues, stained glass. Most of all is how well preserved they are after all this time. Maybe next you can spend more time on the dates on graves. I like to guess what the oldest grave we’ve seen in your videos and and in what cemetery it may be. Thank you, great job
I have lots of other videos on my channel were u read more. I didn't have much time in Paris as I was trying to video as much as I can. Thanks for watching
Have you ever heard of anyone or i guess family member who's gone inside and opened an old mausoleum and either taken things out or just gone in to see what they can see? And or on the other hand, recently buried (within the last couple of years) actually opened up an, whatever type of burial site to put someone in? Some of these either here or in Ireland have open places. I know this is kinda a stupid question since these are all so unique and beautiful, but do people still build these sites? Sorry for being so long. Great video, i can't believe, they left one of her such large works of art with her. People were so into making Thier departed having thier favorite things with them. Don't You Think ?Looking forward to the next GV, thanks again 💚😊
I'm always shocked to see all these mausoleums open and not vandalized. In the US, every one of them would have their windows broken out, be covered in spray paint, and full of garbage and used needles.
It's not really a chair. It is referred to as a Prie Dieu. Which is a prayer stool or desk used mainly for private devotional worship. In addition to a kneeler and arm rest a Prie Dieu sometimes had a sloping shelf for a bible or prayer book. Most commonly they were used for prayers that did not need a book or for private non-liturgical prayers. At 8:06 there is a man in the background, off to the right, that looks much like the sketch you show of this author. Not a spirit, just a coincidence.

I saw Jim Morrison's grave in 1986. At that time, I think there was a bust of Jim on top of a small marker, with the nose broken off. Don't know what is there now.
@@MaryBethPetra it is vandalism. The cemetery does not fix anything. It is up to the family to do so . Those tombs are incredible. Almost every one has a Prie Dieu or, kneeler for families to pray inside. Amazing.
Super cemetery
Some had altars for requiem masses be offered. King Henry 8th planned such a tomb for himself in St. George's chapel Windsor, but it never got built.
