I love the front seat and the headliner in the donor car!!
Great video as always. Nice to see the Jeep in the background.
Great job that both of you did on taking out the dash and working on those fenders!
I thought the saying was: Let he who is without aim throw the first stone... These videos are great - and educational - entertainment! Thanks!
Hey guys just wanted to let you know that me and wife appreciate what yall do there's nothing like saving an old car and we cant wait to see 51 done !!!!!! 😎😁
Thanks very much Adam!
Nice job on getting the glass out and the dash. A little blood shed is usually what it takes lol. Thanks guys, looking forward to seeing the next one.👍👍🇨🇦
My cousin tells me that no job is complete if there is no anointing of blood. Her husband almost never gets a job finished without getting scrapes or cuts.
@@richardcline1337 I’ve been in the heating and cooling trade over 45 years. I’ve likely anointed every installation either a sprinkle or a splatter lol. Be well.👍🇨🇦
Nice job sir Nice chevy GM
congratulations to you show 😃👏👏👏👍👍👍👍😍
Thanks very much Francois.
Richard, I love the Cre-oil T-shirt because you were one the first adopters (the first person I ever saw) to use it on a revival!
I love that stuff. Even though I have been using it for a long time, it still surprises me in how well it works. This is what happens when a product is engineered to be the best, not the most profitable.
Richard you are so blessed to have a woman like Christina to help you with those cars I sure wish I could be blessed like that and have someone to help me with my cars but I don't have anyone
It is true, Jimmie. I am blessed.
@@morewhattherust I am alone myself does Christina have a sister? 😉
Absolutely agree fabulous woman Christina !
Life isn't fair!
Great work. You guys are gamers! AKA git er done guys 💪💪💪
You are a lucky man to have her .
My mom drove a 57 Chevy 4 door and dad drove a 55 Chevy step side and then he bought a 64 Chevy fleet side! The good ole days, when you could ride in the back of the truck! Thanks for sharing guys and great job! Kirk from Louisiana sending prayers and positive energy to the both of you! Take care my friends and I’ll see you in the next one Christina and Richard! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙋🏼✌🏻✌🏻💯💯💯
Hey Kirk, I too remember the days riding in the back of a truck. It was completely normal, but by the 80s it was gone.
Good work ,slow and steady wins the racxe !
Very cool. Nice progress. And that plasma cutter is mack daddy. Seeing the burnt Chevy make a comeback is great.
And appreciated the short yall made in support of the hurricane victims.
Good call on using the body, the fire did not damage the steel. That car body is mild steel. Mild steel hardens with heat, providing it doesn't get over 2000 F degrees, and that's not necessarily the number. It melts at 2500 F , and old cars are useable, new stuff with HSS and UHSS, that's impossible. Keep up the restoration, we're with you two!
Thanks very much Ric. That is good info about the steel!
My brother said any kind of paint stripper would work and you wouldn’t have to worry about the dust! It’s the easiest way to get the paint off my friend! Good luck Christina! Yall are doing a great job saving parts from the car! 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻 That’s some old tires being from Western Auto, I haven’t seen a Western Auto in a long time, I used to buy my push mowers there because those big rear wheel mowers had an aluminum deck! Very nice quality! You don’t see that anymore! 🤷🏼👍🏻👍🏻
I can't wait to see the end product....... love your channel...
Thanks very much Eric.
coming along nicely. :) and of course, cut out whatever piece of body shell you need to repair. :) it's not like anyone will restore what will be left of the 54... you could even cut out repair sheets of tin from those rusted-out doors. cheaper than buying fresh tin sheets, and it will be "all-original", too. ;)
that bee was actually a carnivorous fly that mimics wasps to be left alone. they are harmless to us, and you can easily tell them from the others by they way they are flying, almost "digital" with sharp turns and standing still like a little drone. :)
I love that you're bringing the Phoenix back to life to be enjoyed again. Look forward to the progress.
Great job Richard and Christina!! I can't wait to see the next phase on the Chevy! 😎👍🔧Thank you for sharing!
Your welcome David. More coming.
Christina, you made me look. That salt packet - Sunday Dinner Products appears to have been a food-service company in Montgomery, AL. The parent company on the packet, Schloss & Kahn Wholesale Grocers, built a new facility in Montgomery in 1905-07; that building has now been renovated into a Springhill Suites hotel. I see something like this and get curious enough to dig up the story. Pretty cool that old salt packet is still around.
That is great info Gary! This car was about 1 hour South of Montgomery from 1952 until we bought it, so it all fits.
LOOKING GOOD ! !
Cool video like the way you use the parts car with out destroying it .
Thanks very much Darrel. I just don't like being destructive with old cars when it isn't necessary.
Good morning Richard and Christina. This video is entertaining and educational. I am not going to run this comment into the ground but you would save so much time and effort if you had the three way laser welder, cutter, stripper. Since Christina gets the crappy work, this is more for her. While there is an up front expense of about three thousand dollars, you will own and use it for years to come. With the Chev you are working on now, the laser will pay for itself. I was caught off guard when you said you are not pulling the engine to paint. You are so close to doing the work fully correctly then like the old Maxwell Smart saying....missed by this much ! Pull the motor and install new rings, bearings, and seals. Essentially make it new again. If you leave it as is and start driving, it will strand you along side a country road. Maybe that is not a concern of yours but the peace of mind alone is worth the effort. Thanks for taking us along. Have fun and stay safe.
My dad worked for Goodyear before I was born and for a few years after, fleet sales, regional road warrior. He called the "nubs" mold marks. I guess the technical name for them is "vent spews" which I just learned, result of gas expelled during vulcanization. Remarkable that those Western Auto tires survived the fire. Would look kinda cool in the trunk when it's done.
I think that tire may have come from the truck. I need to check the first video, but I think there was no wheel on the right front. At some point between then and when we bought the car, the spare ended up on the car. I'll definitely put it back in the trunk.
Hi Richard and Christina Richard u have such an. Awesome assistant glad to see u protecting your hands and that pretty hair Christina
Excellent video Christina :) , Richard :) like how you both work together and teamwork too also wonderfull you both do ! Also super ideas both shared together is wonderfull and plus many super too!
Good Job 👍
Coming along
That 51 is going to be really nice that is my favorite one I like those 51 two-door hardtops when I was a kid we had a neighbor had a green one I wanted that car so bad but never could get it after I got older he still had it but he would not sell it to me and he ended up selling it to a junkyard and they crushed it
Excellent job and effort as usual from such a nice couple as you are both. Thanks a lot for sharing this great experience with us.God bless you all.
Richard. Trust an old car guy from old decades auto body shop. You cut the rbber from the inside. This lip is the section of weatherstripping that holds glas unit in place. String cord pulled into body pulls lip over frame sitting edge. Like you found you push ftom inside. Great job not catching edge which starts the delamination of window glass.
Thank you for the info George.
God has blessed you with a good help mate I'm so thankful you are better, when are you going to let me talk you out of the Chevy 😊
Thanks Richard and Christina. Looking forward to this build. Great video guys.
💯❤️👍👊
I love seeing these two work together, just subscribed, can’t wait for more updates on this car ❤great job 😊
always a good job here guys-at least your not spending an arm or leg-you have to try to keep it simple but looking good-keep it up !!
That is it exactly!
You are really hustling with the 51 y’all! This is gonna be a nice car
Enjoying emencely watching this rebuild and the two of you working together. Cant wait till the next one...
Hey, Richard and Christina, i just caught and am watching your new video; great stuff as usual. Great work on a neat old car. Have a blessed day and take care!😁👍🔧🛠️
Thanks Billy!
New Year's Day watching you two! Great way to start the year off!
Happy New Year Matt! Thanks for tuning in.
Hi Christina and Richard ! That was a big job , especially on a car that has that much rust. Just a couple hard to reach rusted screws can really slow a project down. Those " buckles" that you pointed out on the roof , they may have been a result of the fire , but I kinda doubt it . Idk , seems pretty removed from the bulk of the heat , but I never messed with fire damage so what do I know. Christina , you are a sanding machine ! Great video guys , anxious for the next installments !! Bless ya both !
I was thinking those marks in the roof may have been caused by part of the structure the car was in falling on it. The wooden part of the structure burned, and perhaps that part fell on the car.
Glovebox liner's gross, but it's still a pattern to make a new one!
Thanks again you two for another entertaining video.
You've got a long way to go to restore the burned '51, but I'm confident you'll get there.
That's right James. It will take a while, but small steps will get us there.
Such a lovely car - looking forward to the journey 🚗
Fabulous editing😊
I just love watching you two working together.
Thnk you Richard.
@@morewhattherust In reading the comments, I am not alone in my feelings about you two. Just a fabulous couple.
Thanks for the video
Good Job!! :)
Good shape for the shape their in 😊
Hey Guys, really enjoyed the content. I know that dash must have really tried your patience, it looked like a very tough job. It is great to see how some of the harder things can be done even if its not something up your usual alley. Really am liking your second channel, keep up the good work. JCfromCT
Thank you for the feedback JC.
Love visiting with you on your projectss
Great video, as always. I remember Western Auto Parts in Kansas in the early 1970s. Haven’t seen any here in California. Looking forward to next video.
Sadly, Sears bought them out and then immediately closed all of their stores because of sheer greed. Karma paid Sears back in spades!
Awesome video guys I enjoyed it sorry l was late watching it but I haven't had any cell service for a week due to the storm from Florida thanks Richard and Christina
Stay safe Dale.
I'm not sure if you ever saw the super small drive-in over in Thompkinsville, KY, but if there was ever a place to do photo shoots, I think that would be an awesome place.
Cool. We are in Kentucky a couple of times per year, so it would be easy to stop by this place.
Lots of love to you guys as always, Bruce and family ❤
Mr. B. Here ! 🍩☕️👀😎👍. Morning guys ! Am looking forward on how this one comes out ! 🍩☕️👀😎👍
As always, I enjoy both your channels and can’t wait to follow the process of your 51 Hardtop which is a very rare car. Great teamwork guys. 👍
I love your videos you two. I am a subscriber to this channel and your main channel. I enjoy them both.
Great work.
Love the progress.
He looks like he should of been in the movie Grease .
I'll take that as a compliment!
@@morewhattherust that's the way I meant it. 😆
If the job was easy everyone would be doing it.😊
marvelous project guys, way to go! D
Like the work you two do
I am sure glad you're fixing that car Richard it's going to be a great car
Thanks Jimmie. I think so too!
Great content again, thanks for that, keep it coming!
Good job u guys ❤keep up the hardwork
You two are almost unbelievable how well you work together. And I just love that burnt car and have felt that way since the first time I saw it. I am jealous for it. Keep cranking out those videos !
Can't wait 4 the next video love your videos long time sub
Thank you for the support David.
Milwaukee has an angle 1/4" for a battery drill. It is handy for tight spots. Home depot has them. The best part is that you can use apex tips.
That would be helpful. Thanks for the tip.
@@morewhattherust your welcome!
I really love y'all's videos y'all work so good together
Schloss & Kahn (est. 1871) opened Sunday Dinner in 1981. It became US Foods Market Store in 2019.
Wow, that is some cool history! Thank you for sharing. We had thought the car was last driven around 1980, so this would line up.
Christina, have you tried paint remover! It usually works but there’s a certain kind, my brother was a painter and I’m going to check with him and let you know! If you can find something to save you the hard work, you might as well get it girl! It’s a certain name! I’ll let you know!
That would be great Kirk. I have used some, but without a good result.
@@morewhattherust my brother said, you might have to do it a few times! It depends how much paint is on it and how many coats are on it! Good luck! 🙋🏼
28:37 Stalker cat alert!
My uncle had a body shop and he always when he had something sandblasted he would wipe it down with vinegar before he did anything else to it
I would recommend Acetone instead of vinegar. Acetone leaves a residue free surface, contains zero water (no rust formation) and is non-acidic. You'll strike out with vinegar for all those things.
Making some progress one piece of sandpaper at a time!
Enjoyed that episode an I was a welder forty yrs don't worry metal does not get that weak folks but cars are the worst to welder tho
Right on.
Watching you take out those glass make me wonder if they are repair process for those to get the Milky look out of them or are they just done
I am not aware of a repair process for them.
To the best of my recollection it is possible to repair them if you have a super temp controlled oven in which to heat them up - the likes of which is used to manufacture them in the first place. However, it usually is far more expensive to attempt this repair than it is to simply buy new glass that is flawless.
18:00 "I think I cut my leg!". I hope you all are updated on your tetanus shots... sheet metal can bite you in more ways than one! 🏥
I love the work you guys put into these beauties... Cars today are so ugly, and they are designed to waste away... They may be technologically superior, but apply the same science to a 40-50's era car and you would have a much finer product...
Exactly. Style today doesn't compare at all to the 50s.
Richard I hear you talking about the second channel which is where we at now could you tell me the name of your first channel
Sure, it is What The Rust. Thank you for watching.
No way I would remember everything you guys took off. I would have to take each piece off and immediately put it on the other car.
have you considered media blasting the rusted areas of the 51 using walnut shell or soda blast it?
We have, but have not pulled the trigger on it. Given the car is already missing glass and half apart, it would be a good candidate for it.
@@morewhattherust It really would help insure that almost all the rust is addressed. You could rent a sandblaster or maybe a Harbor Freight unit and do it yourself, besides having one of your own would open even more possibilities in future projects!
Why tape off good plugs? Save time, pull good plugs and put in old plugs and no taping off and tape stripping. Just put good plugs back.
Have you done any more work on this car??
We have, but not enough for a video just yet.
What is wrong with the 4 door Chevy that you two are stripping out? Looks like it's in good shape to be driven.
It is very, very rusty. It was redone in the 70s, but has sat for decades since then. The weather has not been kind to it.
Is that clock electric or is it mechanical, Just wondering
It is mechanical. I'd like to get it working.
But that car will help with 2 or 3 others, I'm sorry you can't save them all
You should of removed the belt line trim on the cowl to start.
From under the dash
If I might suggest, you are using the wrong tool to take off the paint... That is a rotary action (or dual action) sander, which is designed to feather the paint not strip it... The same kind of pad and sandpaper used on a buffer would take the paint off much quicker...
I'll try that. Thank you.
I don't think that windshield will fit that 51 two-door hardtop cuz the tops are taller on those four-door cars
You're right, it won't. We need to locate those windshield halves eventually.
You should name the parts car LOCKJAW
Why 2 channels ?
We try to keep the main channel focussed on will it run and first drive videos. This channel is for everything else. If all the content were on one channel, we would likely lose subscribers. That is the thinking anyway.

Eeeenough please cut down on the chatter. ......l muted audio. Will do closed caption
I bought one of those spray attachments for those rattle cans that has a lever to depress the spray nozzle when I might be spraying some paint on a big piece. My poor little finger gets so tired depressing that itty bitty spray nozzle. I do not know about using the windshield from the donor car as this is fogging on the edges due to separation. I think that I would look into what replacement glass would cost. But that is just my thought. Car is coming along. Christina is exercising some elbow grease there on those fenders. Rust encapsulating those pitted areas and filling with putty will do fine for what you guys are doing. There are spot type sandblasters available for just blasting the pitted areas if desired and then rust encapsulate with filling and priming. Of course "elbow grease" is more affordable.🥸👍👍👍👍👍👍
Right on Billy. We weren't clear in the video, but we will not be using that glass on the 51. We just needed it out of the way to access the dash.
Thanks Richard and Christina. Looking forward to this build. Great video guys.
💯❤️👍👊
Thanks Terry!
