holy hot damn good stuff from Towa. And I am kind of surprised by how many JP pros are there to see all that. Kokujin, Kazunoko, and Dogura are all long time JP FGC pros.
SF6 is exploding in Japan and the pros are doing a lot of collabs with streamers including vtubers. The west is starting to emulate this to an extent but it’s much more prevalent in japan atm
A number are VCR regulars
As an old 3S player, seeing Kokujin still doing it really brings me joy. That man is my GOAT as a Dudley player. Followed by Smug for his Dudley play in 4, bringing everyone to Duff City.
They had done a tourney with gruyere and pros awhile back with Botan and Korone and it seems like ever since both communities have gotten along pretty well think several of them were even in VCR together
@@GarudaPanzer just seeing the OG players makes me happy.
Towa has been practicing very hard to become more professional and her efforts have paid off, sasuga towa-sama ✨
To be clear: they're not just overly praising her, my reaction was the same when I saw it live. It's not just about doing the combo, it's about being able to do it and at the right time and during a real match!
It's very easy (especially as a new player) to just rely on easy-to-do stuff, cause you're afraid of making mistakes, so you don't go for optimal combos to squeeze out just a little bit of extra damage, but she did!
Yeah, and she started to practice this combo only 2 days ago and learned perfect timing for impact counter Ken's combo hour before this match. Impressive.
In the same match there were some clear stress-induced mistakes from both. To still buckle down after that and attempt the new combo is great stuff.
Truly shows Towa's pro gamer power
Yeah, I think in the moment Shuto was yelling that the assist combo would've gotten the kill, but she went for the flashy cancel combo instead.
Anyone who plays fighting games knows how awesome this moment is.
A straightforward explanation of how this combo works for people who don’t play fighting games:
Towa is playing as Ed, a high-difficulty character, on Modern controls. Even though Modern controls are simplified, Ed’s moves are still complex enough that this combo can be tricky to pull off. To understand why, we need to explain the 3 buttons at play here:
1. Auto. This button does nothing by itself, but changes the properties of other buttons when held down.
2. Heavy. This is Ed’s strongest normal attack button. When pressed by itself, Ed will perform a high-angled Heavy Flicker. When pressed while Auto is held down, Ed will perform a straight Heavy Punch. Both of these moves have the same amount of startup and do the same damage, but Heavy Flicker leaves the opponent in hitstun for longer. However, when Auto is held down, Heavy can also be held down to charge up a Psycho Knuckle, a slow but powerful special move.
3. Parry. When Parry is pressed during the active frames of a normal attack, a character will perform a Drive Rush, cancelling the animation of the normal attack and rushing forward to allow for combo extension. This consumes up to 3 bars of the Drive Gauge, the segmented meter below the characters’ health bars.
With that explanation out of the way, here’s the breakdown:
0:04 Towa starts off by using Drive Impact, a powerful combo starter that is not interrupted by an opponent’s attacks. Since she successfully lands it, she has a brief window to begin a combo before her opponent crumples to the ground.
0:06 Towa starts her combo by holding Auto and pressing Heavy for Heavy Punch. Holding Auto isn’t strictly necessary here, as the combo can also be started with Heavy Flicker, but it is the most consistent way to start the combo, as Heavy Flicker has the potential to miss if Ed is too far away or starts too late due to its high angle. However, Towa makes a slight error, as she holds Heavy for slightly too long and begins charging up a Psycho Knuckle. This is a problem, as Psycho Knuckle is too slow to hit the opponent before they crumple to the ground. Fortunately, Towa releases the button and cancels her Psycho Knuckle charge, resulting in a slightly delayed but successful Heavy Punch. This is the only part of this combo where she can afford to make this mistake.
0:07 Towa presses Parry to perform a Drive Rush and extend the combo. She lets go of Auto and presses Heavy by itself to perform a Heavy Flicker. This is an optimal choice, as it leaves her opponent in hitstun for long enough for Towa to combo into another Heavy.
0:08 Towa holds down Auto and presses Heavy to perform a Heavy Punch. This is not strictly necessary, as Heavy Kick can also connect at this range, but it is a good habit to do this on Modern Controls for reasons I’ll get into later. Note that, unlike before, Towa does not hold down Heavy at all and performs Heavy Punch without delay. This is important, as holding Heavy and charging Psycho Knuckle will allow the opponent to recover from hitstuns, dropping the combo.
0:09 Towa repeats the last two steps. She presses Parry and performs another Drive Rush. She lets go of Auto and presses Heavy to perform a Heavy Flicker, which is again the optimal choice. Towa follows up with another Heavy Punch, performed without delay.
0:10 The reason why it’s a good habit for an Ed player on modern controls to follow up Heavy Flicker with Heavy Punch is that it greatly simplifies the rest of the combo. From here, Towa performs 3 special moves and a Super to deal big damage - this combo deals damage equal to 55% of a normal character’s health, which is more than enough to finish the job here. While these special moves and the super can be performed with classic motion inputs, Towa only needs to hold down Auto and keep pressing Heavy to perform all of them. This is very simple, even mashing the Heavy button will get it done, but it’s important to keep in mind that Towa could only get to the point where these simple inputs were possible because she correctly performed each of the preceding steps of the combo. Towa correctly timed her Parry inputs to perform Drive Rushes, and had enough awareness to realize that she had enough Drive Gauge to perform 2 Drive Rushes. Towa correctly alternated between Heavy Flicker and Heavy Punch, and didn’t delay Heavy Punch where it mattered. Most crucially, Towa correctly assessed that this was a good situation to use all of her resources to defeat her opponent and secure the win. Overall, a very good showing.
If I get SF6 and pick up Ed I'll try to remember this. Thanks for the info bro! 👍
Damn, Towa getting compliments from pro players is heartwarming for some reason. Towasama worked hard, and it shows 😊
I just love how at the beginning she thought they were teasing her, like many of her pro-player friends usually do in Apex and OW2, but then it finally clicked that they were serious about it and was embarrassed and proud of herself.
The Power of Hololive. This is what the VTuber Grind looks like.
AND THE GRIND NEVER STOPS!
Strict coaching from Tachikawa and Towa hardwork have paid off. You can see it on stream everytime she did a missplay on a certain move, she sometimes immediately apologize to Tachikawa even though he's not there lmao. Can't wait till the real match come!
As far as I can tell Towa extended what would have been a simple combo twice and ended it with a timed super to maximize the damage.
She did your bnb go-to cashout combo. It's rather simple, but very effective and high damage combo that will probably take 50+ of your health. The impressive part was the fact that she Drive rush countered on that situation and actually landed the combo perfectly without dropping it in a match.
Very impressive indeed.
Korone and Aki aren't the only ones anymore who are getting good at this
Botan and Pekora are somewhat decent at SF6 too
Quite a few it seems play SF6. Subaru plays as well, as we saw her come in to play both Aki and Towa in their recent SF6 plays.
@@GeulianoInoceldaSubaru is generally the biggest player
@@Fishman465 Diamond 3 nonetheless rn
Well i mean, Subaru is currently the strongest SF6 player among the hololive girls. Shes already Diamond 3, just a few more before she reaches Master rank.
Meanwhile Aki be like:
"I dunno know what happen and why they all suddenly excited.. But what i know is my kouhai are freaking awesome.."
She was sick around this time so she was mostly muted and quiet
Lol that laugh absolutely shows how proud she was
They all sound like proud fathers lawlz
i always dig Towa’s competitive spirit!💗
So proud of this girl! She has been putting the hours in the lab and has gotten better little by little, she has grown accustomed to her new leverless box and studied her char, the speed in which she gets better at games is impressive.
Using angel combos to impress the pros
I think a little context is needed here. Towa did a well-known BnB cashout combo for round enders with Ed, but it's commonly regarded to be particularly hard for beginners to do. Towa is playing on Modern, and while it has autocombos, the combo that Towa did HAS to be done manually without relying on autocombos. And the combo in question is ironically HARDER to do on Modern Controls than on Classic Controls. What made pros go wild was not only did she do it on Modern, but she did it in an actual, tournament, live-streamed match, which is probably the most stressful environment a beginner can be in.
Towa's competitive gaming experience coming in clutch.
welcome to the FGC, Towasama!
Towa following in the footsteps of Korone and Botan in shocking pro players in Street Fighter
I started watching Towa cuz I was into competitive Apex. Now that I've moved on to SF6, I feel lucky that she picked it up too
tachikawa is so funny
towa-sama very cool!
The laughs and claps from Towa-sama while players are shocked are pure gold XD
Botan, Korone, and now Towa.
I may not play fighting games anymore (not that I was ever really good), but I love seeing them tackle this level of play.
I want to see towa as akuma/gouki
Towa with the Satsui no Hado would be perfect
Debidebi akuma na no~~
Towa is too inlove with ed lol
Anybody who plays fighting games gets how these pros feel. This really gives an Evo moment feel.
I am a little bit surprised her drive impact combo into SA3 managed to kill. DI scales shit heavy.
But yeah nice play.
My heart actually skipped a beat seeing this live, Towa-sama SFVI streams are very charming and one of the most entertaining ones recently and this last sequence from that match also shows that she put some effort into the game outside from the livestreams, really a hard working Tenshi i mean- Devil.
Towa is so cute aaaaaaaah
I like how, at first, it was Botan and Korone surprising these players with combos. Now it's Towa surprising them.
Isn't that what idols do? Practice hard to perform something perfectly when the time comes
very proud she pull off such a good combo extension
I never imagined I'd be watching a video of FGC legends like Kokujin or Kazunoko associating with VTubers. Oh snap there's Dogura!
Perfect pace, perfect space
You love to see the fundies
You know it's legendary when you create a move that has pros speechless. It really makes me appreciate vtubers more when you see the effort they put in😊
Towa didnt create the combo. It was just a well known combo for ed but generally difficult to do especially for beginners. The fact that Towa was able to do it is what surprised everyone especially during heated matches
@@khalduras784 Oh, so that's what she did
@@josephwilliams2406 See doing the moves and getting the timing down takes work but you can sit in practice mode until you get these things down. The issue is making your brain click to say "Oh I can hit this full combo perfectly right now" in the split second the chance presents itself
@@josephwilliams2406 Add to the fact that she did the combo on Modern Controls. This combo in particular HAS to be done manually without relying on autocombos, and is also ironically, harder to do on Modern Controls than on Classic Controls because of the convoluted way Modern Controls is laid out for this particular combo.
Towa-sama putting in real work, ya love to see it! 💜💚
Friendly reminder that once Towa set her sights on a game, she'll tryhard it and study it to the most technical level. I'm 100% sure if she touched Tekken and vibed with it, she could reach Garyu in 2 weeks, and probably even Tekken King in under 3 months.
Towa is close to mastering her new Street Fighter 6 oshi
Not surprised. Towa is competitive as FUCK
Towa-sama maji kawaiiiiii
Bro this reminds of Ep14 of Shangri La Frontier when a newbie strung together a completely new undiscovered move and the vets are surprised and congratulated them for the discovery. Its so cool and wholesome side of the FGC community it brings a tear to my eye.
The combo laugh did alot of damage to me
We usually hype up anyone who can pull a combo that takes 20%-40% of the enemy's health off.
father like, that's my child
Dang, really makes me wish more of them played Strive..
Towa pranking pros by coming up with a great combo !!
There’s at least one manga about girls getting into fighting games, but I wonder if it would add some spice to make a manga/anime about IDOLS or performance-based vtubers (like those at Hololive) getting into fighting games based on their regular practices of repetition and hard work fueling their learning process. That could be a rather inspiring story if executed similar to what the actual examples here are doing!
SHES DOING LINKS WHAT THE FUCK
Towa-sama so cute aaaaa ❤❤❤
my unpredictable and faceroll techquines may look like black magic in the eyes of pro's
for my brother and friends it was just Tuesday 😎
She got pro up here wanting to know the tech 😆 be funny if Kazu shows up next tournament with a pocket Ed because of this lol (though he’s not that good currently)
All pros know the tech. It's a well-known BnB cashout combo for round enders with Ed. What made Towa doing it so impressive for the pros was the it's a very hard combos for beginners, and the combo is ironically harder to do on Modern Controls than on Classic Controls.
LOL amazing
towa Giggles So Devine 😍😍😍😍
I don't know anything about the fighting game world, though I am familiar with the fact that there are some insanely skilled players out there that play. Can someone more in the know explain what makes this combo in particular so unique even among the Pro players Towa sama is playing/practicing against?
They're commenting more on her improvement than the combo itself, I think. It's nothing insane but it's a big step for someone new to fighting games like that. It might even be a bit risky to have done it since going into the super earlier would have KO'd without the risk of dropping the combo.
This combo isn't anything special as it's very basic but they're surprised that she as a newer player recognized that she was able to do this combo and execute it.
Towa is using Modern controls, doing this combo specifically is even harder in Modern because it requires several inputs that make the combo possible, doing it not only in that way but in competitive? It surprised even the pros.
the fact that Tachikawa the Ed main pro hype you up is nuts. somehow youtube recommend me sf6 and I found the combo made by Tachikawa himself lol ruclips.net/video/ooX18SbdOPo/видео.html
I have added a time stamp to the video
Anyone who plays sf6 can explain this to me? I play tekken lol so 2d stuff is alien to me
Just before this match, Tachi, her coach explained how to implement Drive Rush, a combo extender kinda like Heat Dash in Tekken 8. With just a little bit of practice (in the same session!), she pulled off this combo to close out the round!
Towa did a drive rush combo off the drive impact counter. They're surprised because she was able to go into a full combo off the counter given that she's relatively a newbie and SF6 being her first fighting game.
She basically pulled off a not-so-easy optimal combo (that just gave her a little bit of extra damage, so it's a risk if you're not confident) at an optimal time and during a real match. And she's only been playing for a few weeks, having basically no prior fighting game experience.
Basically a well time combo extension which is pretty difficult to pull off
drive rush combo is kinda hard for new player so they are suprised to see towa doing it, kinda like heat engager system in tekken 8 where you rush into opponents deplete half or full bar of health
modern control helps towa input tho
I am completely illetarate when it comes to fighting games... so if anyone could explain to me what exactly is impressive about Towa's move in this clip, I would appreciate it.
The combo itself is not what's impressive. It's the perfect execution that she did while in a real match that shocks the pro players.
To explain it in layman's term, you don't expect someone who started out their first week of playing FPS, never actually jumped into a real match, and only practiced spidershots at Aimlab to suddenly pull a clutch ace in Valorant, but then they did it.
Jeez, what's next? Towa doing the Daigo Parry?
Protip: DO NOT try to Daigo Parry in SF6.
Justin: Not again! Not again!
Jaja i think towa is fighting games is like botan is shooters, A GOD
Towa is quite the monster in competitive gaming in general, but yeah, she really fits in fighting games, she used to be part of a show on the hololive channel about a videogame shop, when Botan was the guest they played Guilty Gear, it was Towa's first time playing and by the end she was already using supers and finishers.
Sasuga Towa-sama, she's also cute when being praised xD

It was on Modern.
not to downplay Towa's combo and diminish the value of this moment
But I noticed they're using Modern Controls, not classic controls
and the pros are still complimenting her for it!
so she must have done something impressive with Modern that they've not seen before
Apart from auto combo and one button super any other combo like this require to do the combo manually so its like a classic combo with some modern shortcut still hard to do for beginner in real situation
I think they're being encouraging, but realistically, if you look at Towa's inputs on the right side of the screen, you can see the exact buttons she's pressing. I'll sum it up here:
After the Drive Impact punish counter:
Auto button + Heavy button (2 simultaneous buttons)
Drive Parry cancel (Drive Parry single button, timing somewhat important)
Heavy button (single button)
Auto button + Heavy button (2 simultaneous buttons)
Drive Parry cancel (Drive Parry timed button, timing somewhat important)
Heavy button (single button)
Auto button + Heavy button (Mash until end of combo, includes automatic level 3 super)
Looking at as is, it's probably not very impressive to a slightly competitive amateur player (much less pros), but the fact that Towa has never played a fighting game before but can get this long string of buttons down as a complete newcomer shows the effort she put into learning and practicing in the game.
I think none of the pros expected her to do double Drive Parry extend (yes Drive Parry extend is easy, but the thing about this specific string is that it's very expensive and you would only do this to end a game, you can't just press the same string of buttons EVERYTIME you get an opening or you will very quickly put yourself in a terrible position because it leaves you in burnout).
So I think the pros are impressed about:
1 - She knows the optimal extension combo
2 - She is mentally aware enough to use it only to close out the game instead of doing it everytime and putting herself at a disadvantage
3 - The pros probably only expected her to do the Auto-Heavy combo (less mental stack requirement, but probably might not have ended the game)
