I also have a '93 model Daisy 130A. If not familiar, those were limited production, by Milbro of Scotland, and made in Spain. A true European break-barrel rifle. It shoots around 575 to 590 fps, and at 20 meters, you can put pellets in the same hole most of the time. It's a great rifle and puts that Chinese made piece of junk to shame.
Just a follow up. Some on here complain about the supplied scope rings that come with the Ruger. If you tighten them to the extreme they seem okay. I shoot a Ruger Super Redhawk .454 Casuul. I tighten down that scope hard....(had it bore sighted by a pro). I tightened up the Air Hawk scope the same way and have had no issues. Keep the phillips screws on the stock tight and this rifle is a true gem of a bargain!
Try the Crossman Premier Hollowpoints from WalMart. They shot great in mine. Mine didn't like JSBs, or any of the RWS pellets. Get a tune kit from Vortek and keep the stock screws tight and these are super accurate!
I shoot pneumatics and CO2 rifles, not springers, but I somehow get the feeling that breaking one in with lead-free 5.2gr pellets is awful for the powerplant.
Did it ever settle down? I live in the city and the noise might be a complaint I have 1 but it is really loud and has smoke coming out of the end how do I fix?
My wife recently took up birdwatching, and the usual suspects came along with the bird feeders.....meaning squirrels and starlings. Bought this rifle as an inexpensive way to keep her happy. I have to admit, I was shocked. This rifle hits hard, and is accurate with the right pellets. The scope is non adjustable but, it's okay to twenty yards. The rifle seems to like heavier grain pellets. I got the best groups with the Beeman Kodiak Extra Heavy. This is a no frills rifle but, I love it!
I've got one of these and it's remarkably ammo finicky. I've used crosman premieres in it for plinking and it did well enough, wasnt going to be an olympic class shooter. I one day took it to the range with my .22 and decided to try some higher end pellets, and my 8 inch group (seriously) at 20 yards, became a single hole after the switch. Also, you dont even need 1000 shots to notice a difference with it, mine felt more solid after 200-300 and just buttered up from there.
After 2 years and about 700 rounds, my Air Hawk simply refuses to fire. A week ago I cocked it and pulled the trigger but nothing happened; it was as if the trigger were suddenly disengaged from the piston release (I never did anything to the trigger, no adjustments of any kind). So now I have a fully cocked gun that does not work. The factory proposed I call and get from them a box to send it back but I am reluctant to do so for two very good reasons: (1) I paid about $100 for the gun and between shipping and repair costs I am afraid I could end up spending that again, and (2) it seems not at all safe to send a cocked rifle by mail or UPS, even without the bullet that I managed to unload with the help of a screwdriver. Not happy.
i think those hyper max pellets would be good in my gamo delta cadet youth rifle that i owned for 4 years and have left cocked for days (not knowing about spring fatigue) yet still shoots pretty accurate and can take down birds
Paul, I know this video is a few years old now but I'm looking to get an affordable, accurate springer (PCPs are sexy but not affordable for me). I'm after field accuracy to at least 40 yards and need to stay around $150 but might go $200 if the wife is not looking. Noise might be an issue and I'd prefer a .177 over a .22 but will bow to your recommendation. Thanks, Steve
Honestly that's pretty bad grouping at 20 meters, considering the rifle has a scope, and is of very high velocities near, or over 880 fps. Also, you are using a rest, which should help get even tighter groups. I uses my knee as a rest, and use open sights, and get 1/4" to 1/2" groups, or tighter, at 615 to 625 fps (varies a bit with 6 pumps). I use crosman premier hollow points only, in 177 cal. Also my gun was only 55 bucks. . oops, I gave away that it's the 2100. haha. Cheap, light, accurate.
@patdud1979 You have to find the right ammo for it. I have one and if I put something like crosman premiers in it, the groups are 8 inches at 20 yards, if I put some RWS Match in it, the groups are dime sized.
@UnckelJohn They're identical in every way except one: The Stock. The real deciding factor on whether or not to get a blackhawk or airhawk is just whether you like the wood look and feel or not. Also the fact the wood stock adds a considerable amount of weight. All the important bits are identical and are a ripoff of the RWS 34p series.
Why test with pellets way too light for a magnum spring air rifle? I wouldn't go beneath 7.9gr in a magnum springer or you might get piston slam and destroy the rifle.
I just purchased this gun and on the vertical adjustment for the rear optical sight, the adjustment knob will not rotate-it is too hard to turn. What should I do?
hi Paul I have been seeing the xisico xs25 ans then I saw this ruger and they are exactly the same, and my question is. Are they exactly the same internals, materials etc? Other question is, what caliber is better for this airgun the .177 or the .22? Thanks!!!!!!!!! Saludos desde México!!!!
@TheYohizle It's absolutely horrible... I have this air rifle, and love the pants off it, but put a BSA red dot on it, and use german pellets and get single hole groups at further distances than these tests.
Do you know about the turkish Hatsan air guns for example mod 55s? Do they have good quality? Or the Ruger Air Hawk would be better? Thanks in advance! Gabor
i have the 495 fps version, and would like to know it's actual fps on a chrony because i have a hunch its got a little more bang than that for the decent size of the spring.
Compare to Yukon .22 Cal Umarex's ReAxis Gas Piston same as break barrel system. What is the advantage technology breakthrough in 2013. They look alike and performance just average.
Hi Paul I've purchased an air hawk,I've watched your review a few times is this a good airgun for my first or a waste of money. Thank you Shawn ps what pellets do you recommend
I just picked one of these up and everything is perfect accept i see the front fixed sight through the scope. It's a big red blur in the bottom of my scope sight. Anyway i could fix this?
There can be a problem with consistency in manufacturing. It likes lead pellets, and if you want to use the supplied scope you should buy some mounting rings. I think I'm more accurate without, but I'll probably buy a better scope. It's nice that it has open sights, good power and nice hardware. Very hard to beat, but you should definitely use it and determine if there's a problem while you can still return/exchange.
I just bought this gun today :) but im having trouble alighning the sight with the gun any tips? and btw is the scope on this gun adjustable to range for zoom in zoom out?
this video is not the greatest. i have this pellet rifle. and with a picatani rail adapter from rws it works great. i have a Simmons 3-9x50 scope on mine and i get groups the size of a quarter at fifty yards. i personally really recommend this air rifle for anybody who is looking for a cheap really well performing air rifle. and also i shoot crosman premier hollow point hunting pellets in mine and they seem to work the best for me.
i ad this rifle at one time but it was horible the group at 25 yard was 3 to 4 inch or worst mabe i got a lemon but i sold it after 1 month :( il stick wit my remington 597 thank you lol
@BlackCountryPuddler Mine shoots dime groups at 20 yards, anything in china will suck if theres a lack of quality control, same for anything made in the US or Europe.
what made these cheap guns so good? I have the cousin to the AH, known as Umarex Surge. I get .250" groups at 25 yards, and .180 group at 10 yards. with premium pellets of course. mine is only rated at 495fps, yet I was able to maintain sub 1" groups at 32 yards. the only thing I did to this gun, was take it apart, clean ,relube and reassemble. i also replaced the scope with a Walther 4x32 scope. I consider this my budget target rifle, just wish I could find a target style stock for it.
Shame on Ruger. They could easily have this gun made in USA. I'm sure most people won't mind paying a couple more bucks for American made air rifles that are at least the same quality if not better than imports.

I have one, IMO its not worth the money Ruger has lost it here, cheap finish on the stock, open sights are plastic and look and feel cheap, the breach is the worst ive seen for a while needs attention out of the box, HEAVY to carry. please do another video load the breach before firing open the barrel again and look at the damaged skirt on the pellet, also the rifle was dieseling on hevey loads, which brings to mind poor cleaning on assembly. THE POOR MAN PAYS TWICE
OH my gosh, I watched more, and man, what the heck? Those groups are horrible !!! Way, way too loose. How could anyone expect to hit a starling in the kill zone with such wide groups? I think that gun is not worth a crap, honestly. At that close range, you should be putting pellets through the same holes, and then a couple flyers no more than 3/8" away, with OPEN sights, not a scope!

It is in the sense that it is a spring powered break barrel. Quality, weight, power, and barrel length all differ.
Thanks,
Pyramyd Air Team
this thing when i first shot mine yesterday feltt like a .22-250 and sounded like a .22lr I LOVE IT!!!!
Did it ever settle down? I live in the city and the noise might be a complaint I have 1 but it is really loud and has smoke coming out of the end how do I fix?

I´m not sure about those 40 yds... but the cheapest greatest gun for those distances is the rws 34. Just don´t buy gamo...

I would stick to pellets to be safe.

I love air guns, they are so much fun !
i believe your thinking of the airhawk elite, not the blackhawk revolver.
Thank you Paulie! semper Fi!
the ruger airhawk is an air rifle. the ruger blackhawk is a single action cartridge revolver. nothing similar but the brand name.
This was a very great review.
Why did you not show us the group size after you tightened the barrel? Wouldn't that effect the groups?
Why test with pellets way too light for a magnum spring air rifle? I wouldn't go beneath 7.9gr in a magnum springer or you might get piston slam and destroy the rifle.
It was an IZH 61 that didnt ship. I will find something on airgun source then
Please review the Norica Titan 5,5 or Hatsan 125 Ht 4,5
can paul review some more low-mid price airguns?
how many decibels would you say you got out of the first pellets you used that went supersonic? did it actually sound like a .22?
@BlackCountryPuddler And yes, I have the pictures to back that up :p
@ORRLax3r34 pellets, not bbs
*was referring to a Leopold pistol scope
Is this basically the same rifle as the Ruger Blackhawk with the exception of the stock?
I just purchased this gun and on the vertical adjustment for the rear optical sight, the adjustment knob will not rotate-it is too hard to turn. What should I do?

it looks just like a ruger air magnum on .22 cal. theyre both nice but not sure if they last long, anyway theyre cheap
how good of a scope is the one that come with this gun.
yes that sounds about right
Do you know about the turkish Hatsan air guns for example mod 55s? Do they have good quality? Or the Ruger Air Hawk would be better?
Thanks in advance!
Gabor
idk which to choose, between the Ruger:
- Airhawk
- Blackhawk
- (or even the more costly) Air Magnum
i need help to choose which one, and why?
thanks
i have the 495 fps version, and would like to know it's actual fps on a chrony because i have a hunch its got a little more bang than that for the decent size of the spring.
How do you take apart this gun just by the 2 screws on the stock
Compare to Yukon .22 Cal Umarex's ReAxis Gas Piston same as break barrel system. What is the advantage technology breakthrough in 2013. They look alike and performance just average.
@333dtk
Hard how? Do you mean it's difficult to break the barrel?
Hi Paul I've purchased an air hawk,I've watched your review a few times is this a good airgun for my first or a waste of money. Thank you Shawn ps what pellets do you recommend
I just picked one of these up and everything is perfect accept i see the front fixed sight through the scope. It's a big red blur in the bottom of my scope sight.
Anyway i could fix this?
I think they mean the sand bag rest thing
Pyramyd air, how come you cant send an airgun to canada but airgunsource can?
@redcatonly different guns like different pellets
I have this gun but the 495 fps version, and I was wondering is it bad to shot bb's through it or can you shot bb's through it?
I have one of these and find the stock too slim for a comfortable cheek rest.
Fat cheek
would a gamo red fire and the crosman hunting pointed pellets work for this air rifle?
Nice review
Do you have any experience with the Ruger Talon air rifle?
There can be a problem with consistency in manufacturing. It likes lead pellets, and if you want to use the supplied scope you should buy some mounting rings. I think I'm more accurate without, but I'll probably buy a better scope. It's nice that it has open sights, good power and nice hardware.

Isn't firing it like that with the breech open damaging?
I'm getting this gun, what crosman pellet will work best for hunting?
can you guys do something for the Ruger Air Magnum?
Hey guys what should I get? Ruger air hawk .177, crosman phantom .177 or crosman Optimus .177? Can't decide.
what does adjusting the fiber optic sight do?
I had my fibre optic break off whe my hand slipped while I was cockin it and a chunk was stuck in the side of my head
I just bought this gun today :) but im having trouble alighning the sight with the gun any tips? and btw is the scope on this gun adjustable to range for zoom in zoom out?
You gotta be shittin me
Do you guys tighten and adjust before shipping?
i have the crosman phantom 1000x how would you compare theys air guns
is the air hawk any thing like the Ruger Blackhawk
what kind of scope would you suggest for this rifle? long range
Which JSB Pellet you used in this video?
have you done a gamo big cat 1250 yet?
what is the best airgun i ccould possibly get for hunting for under 150 dollars
this video is not the greatest. i have this pellet rifle. and with a picatani rail adapter from rws it works great. i have a Simmons 3-9x50 scope on mine and i get groups the size of a quarter at fifty yards. i personally really recommend this air rifle for anybody who is looking for a cheap really well performing air rifle. and also i shoot crosman premier hollow point hunting pellets in mine and they seem to work the best for me.
can you decock all break-barrels as you have shown?
No, some do not.
i ad this rifle at one time but it was horible the group at 25 yard was 3 to 4 inch or worst mabe i got a lemon but i sold it after 1 month :( il stick wit my remington 597 thank you lol
I had this airgun after 5 shots it fired by itself and wouldn't stay cocked
would never go with led free pellets for anything.
what would be the issue when it crunches when cocking
@BlackCountryPuddler Mine shoots dime groups at 20 yards, anything in china will suck if theres a lack of quality control, same for anything made in the US or Europe.
is it possible to remove the sights if you intend to only use a scope?
shawn gocool I believe so, there is what looks like an Alan and a screw on each piece
I have the ruger air magnum
what made these cheap guns so good? I have the cousin to the AH, known as Umarex Surge. Can someone tell me the length of the gun when the barrel is folded?
wow, I think, I'm not Sure tht spring power can do that. Really fPS? I dont think so.
It's not really a spring it's a spring piston that pulls in air when you break the barrel and the air and spring at the same time
Where do i get that bad boi!!!!!
thanks
what was that black gun at 0:09?
Sonic Snap!
WHere can I get these JSB Jumbo Exact pellets at 177 cal?
What can you say about the airhawk elite?
it is the same with ruger blackhawk?
Do you ship to Illinois?
I have one of these and these and the scope is crap. Never shoots in the same place twice.
Nice and easy
what is this gun's maximum range.
Shame on Ruger. They could easily have this gun made in USA. I'm sure most people won't mind paying a couple more bucks for American made air rifles that are at least the same quality if not better than imports.
Copy of t05 trigger, the t06 is pretty new
do u know how to fix it if it wont shoot
