OMG WHERES THE LIE😒 I literally tried doing this RESPECTFULLY with my mom to explain to her why we don’t have the bestie relationship she sees on tv or hears her coworkers talk about at work. Just like my entire childhood instead of me being comforted and being heard and understood, it turned into be falling for the crocodile tears and comforting her. She fixated on one example I gave instead of seeing the big picture and started playing the victim.
I'm lucky in that sense.. my mom did some awful shit when I was young and all I wanted was her... When she was around she called me her shadow bc I followed her every where.. My grandma took my brothers and I from her when i was in 1st grade and my grandma would call her the wind bc she would blow in and disappear.. she had her demons with abusive men, drugs, alcohol, and mental illness(not diagnosed but I'm like 95% sure she is bipolar).. Now that I'm 32 I'm able to speak openly with her about it, she cries sometimes but not because I'm making her feel bad but because of her own regret and remorse for what she put us through as kids knowing that she wasted all that time she could have had with us.. im thankful she let's me speak openly with her about that stuff bc I adore her regardless of her mistakes..
I agree but do we ever confront our dads on what they do also? I confront my mom constantly and now realizing, my dad wasn’t as bad but he wasn’t perfect. Question is? Can I really confront him? I’m thinking it’ll be a softer tone with my dad but Idt he’ll be understanding. He might though!

What Mendecees was trying to share is HIS experience growing up. A lot of parents are not ready or willing to recieve the reality of what their child went through, they can only aruge what they tried to do and what they did materialistically. But ignore what they put their child through mentally & emotionally to get it. No one denies that parents make sacrafices or have been through some mess. But you can't deny your childs pain just becuase of what you tried to do for them.

It’s about breaking the cycle. My mother and her siblings were raised in an era where children needed to stay in their place, it didn’t matter how or what a child would feel. So it’s easy to blame those before us and not understand that that’s how they were brought up themselves. If you’re self aware enough and posses enough discernment, you can break the cycle tho.

Judy acted the same way my mom acted when I went to therapy and started sharing my childhood traumas and feelings. She was so focused on being “bashed” that she couldn’t see how immature she was being by not taking accountability and JUST LISTENING. Mama Dee was right, apologize and validate your child’s feelings. I’m sure she did the best she could but his experience is HIS experience. He has shown his love for his mom time and time again.

She came up to me and did the same thing….sat in my lap and hugged me so hard and said “mommy what’s wrong?
