    Love the content, I'm going to give my input as an owner of an 2018 Elantra Sport, if you don't know about the car, just know this car started it all for the Veloster other N series vehicles. IMO, when it comes to the Manuel vs DCT/DSG talk, I think it all comes down to personal opinion and choice. I love my Elantra Sport, but the DCT was one of the first Hyundai used and was based off an Early DSG (Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche) model that Hyundai adapted for the Veloster and it's Turbo model. And Later Elantra Sport. Lucky with their later vehicles in the family even Kia, they were able to expand the speeds and add the "Wet" style DCT transmissions that made the German Market cars so popular. Such cars have made KDM and other cars using DCT/DSG cars so popular over Manuel's these days, of course IMO. I feel if you're getting any Hyundai / Kia product that's considered the sports model. The DCT in my opinion is definitely the better option over the manual. The dual clutch transmission isn't just an automatic, it's an automatic that behaves like a manual transmission. Even in the 7-speed dry DCT setups, it's great with proper maintenance, but the 8 speed and higher is amazing in Hyundai/Kia vehicles. And with Hyundai developing their DCTC with Volkswagen and Audi engineers in the Nurburgring racers this the "N" in the Hyundai sports branding, they have found a formula that works. Having personally driven a n-series Elantra, Veloster in Manuel setups and DCT setups I have liked them both. But the DCT won IMO because of a few things. 1. NGrin mode which is better on the DCT. 2. The DCT/DSG farts which seems to amplify when in sports mode, those that are fans of VW, Mercedes, BMW, Audi know what that sounds like, your car has it indeed. 3. The ease of driving if you live in a heavy traffic area during rush hour if your car is your daily. Me personally I love not having to clutch and inch and go, of course with an DCT it could still have it draw backs, but keep it in first gear in traffic you're good. All in all, it's personal choice. But if I were to upgrade my Elantra Sport, it would be the Elantra N or Genesis G70 TT both are great bangs for the buck and have great DCT's. But if I wanted a manual transmission....The Civic Type R would be my choice, although I wish Honda would of made a DCT model to compare the car with. But to name other notable car companies that are using DCT/DSG. Dodge, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Mitsubishi, Nissan among other brand, I could name models specifically but this will be an even longer posting. Dodge actually used the DCT before Hyundai in the Dart Rallie model for the US market, and of course you mentioned VW with the Golf GTI and Jetta GLI.

Your best bet is joining Reddit r/ElantraN or an Elantra N group on FB, but I can poke around and report back if anyone has fit all three in back. In ECO I will easily get low to mid-30 MPG on the highway. Combined over 25k miles I’m averaging 28.2 MPG. Pretty amazing for the car IMO, but it doesn’t compare to a base Elantra. In ECO I do believe it is limited to around 200 HP because of the boost PSI being lower. It’s still got plenty of pickup to merge on the highway or pass a vehicle, but the throttle response is definitely turned way down, but that’s the way it conserves fuel.

    Tbh, I don't own a N anything, but at some point, I will probably replace my Mazda 6 manual with a Hyundai N of some type. Not that long ago, I fractured my left ankle, and after not being capable of driving my manual for months, I kind of started rethinking my next vehicle transmission type. Coming from a manual, the natural auto choice is DCT. That said, Hyundai's 8spd DCT kind of scares me as far as long-term reliability goes. There has already been one recall, and recently the "Car Confections," channel bought a 2024 redesigned Santa Fe, and within weeks had a catastrophic DCT failure. This after Hyundai/Kia had class action lawsuits in regards to the 7spd dry DCT. So since my foot has healed mostly, and been back on the clutch, I again have strongly been considering a manual once again for 2 reasons. 1, it is a much less complex transmission and therefore more reliable long-term, and 2, it very well could be the last true manual I will ever have the opportunity for again.

I found that it hits second gear and sort of maintains the rpm for a while and then powers through… is it spinning? DCT is more consistent to launch but weird as it hits 2nd gear?? and I thought with NGS the pops and bangs louder.. the manual doesn’t seem as responsive but it’s because you tend to lug the manual more where the dct will downshift., but driven hard has plenty of pace. The manual is atrocious to launch and wheel hops bad. Motor mount is mandatory upgrade for manual. The dct also holds boost between gears where the manual dumps
    Boost as you hit the clutch. I bought the manual for additional drivers engagement but often question if I should have bought DCT for outright pace.. I would say manual would be more reliable Long term.. both are great cars can’t go wrong..

    There's no controversy at all, really.
    A) it's personal preference
    B) Yes, the auto is faster, but not sure why people would be street racing anyway... but whatever
    C) The most important, I'm a grown up, and therefore, I know how to drive a manual... which is why I bought the manual, specifically because this car offers a manual where the K5 didn't.

      The controversy is in everyone’s varying opinions. Just read through the comments lol. You obviously love manuals, so it wasn’t hard decision for you. I’m not so sure about the “I’m a grown up so I know how to drive manual” thing though. That’s a little silly. I’m probably older than you and I didn’t feel I needed a manual to prove that. I’ve owned 6 different manual vehicles and most well before I was considered “grown up” so it’s kind of a weird statement.

      @@n-power-automotive - I’m 49. My comment was directed at Millennials and Zoomers who absolutely don’t know how to drive manuals. Plus, it serves as a good theft deterrent since most Americans no longer know how to drive stick either. lol.
      Also, you read what I put as A) in my response; personal preference. I drove a DCT before i got the call that the manual was available. And since i’m fairly certain this will be the last time i buy a manual, i went for it. Again, for me it isn’t a daily driver so i don’t have the traffic headache either.
      I’m sure i would’ve been just as happy with the DCT though, for sure.

    A DCT is not like an automated manual - that’s an SMG. The DCT has a two clutch system so one clutch can handle odd gears and the other can handle even gears, which allows for much faster shifts.

    • @n-power-automotive
      @n-power-automotive 6 месяцев назад

      It is still considered a type of automated manual. It has a clutch (two in this case) and syncros, but instead of being moved by a shifter it’s controlled by a computer.

    I used to be a diehard manual guy, but the second I drove a DCT, I will never daily drive a manual again. Maybe I'll get a manual for a weekend car. A DCT is the best of both worlds because it doesn't drive like an automatic, there's no delay in the paddle shifters like in a 10r80 or a Zf8 it's faster, so it's excellent around a track and in a straight line, a manual just can't keep up and neither can torque converter automatics.....
