Hi Diane. S&H green stamps brings back fond memories of helping my Mother fill up all her books. It is obvious that you have a personal connection to all your pieces which makes it all that much more special. TFS.
Diane, you mentioned about soaking pages from a vintage scrapbook, I’m curious about that process because I have some pages to do that with and I’m really nervous about actually doing this. Would you mind sharing how you do this? Thanks! Love all your ephemera stash!❤
I’ve done it with stamps. Put a large pot of water on to heat. It doesn’t have to boil just hot (ish). I put one paper in at a time. After a few minutes, check to see if the items are coming off. Set somewhere to dry and continue on until they’re all done. Very easy. If you want the paper they were stuck to, you may have a sticky residue from the glue. I swished and lightly rubbed at it until it dissipated. Diane’s system may be different. It’s not hard just a process. Especially if you have a lot of pages you want done.
I love your sweater!! I think one of my most favorite things about you is that you use vintage tins and boxes to store some of your ephemera. I love your style and your willingness to share your craft! Thank you Diane for making my drive in the mornings so fun!!
You have such a wonderful stash of ephemera. Would love to see how you store them. Also would love to see and learn how to soak paper to get the glue off so it releases from other paper and not ruin the paper you want to save. I’m so worried it will ruin my paper. Great video. Thank you. 😃
Girllll we are so alike! I love old autograph books, too. I haven’t used any in projects; just have let my collection pile up. 😂 I find Dennison very often down here, and here’s a tip: At estate sales, it’s usually at the bottom of a container of old wrapping in the bag/box of tags (a lot of times in a random reused gift box, too)or in the garage on a work bench (especially the red border ones), or in a desk drawer the estate company didn’t clean out (check all the drawers). I kind of have a hoard of it and can’t part with it yet. 😅 You have great stuff!
It is difficult to part with the old Dennison items. And the cute vintage gift tags and seals. And the vintage greeting cards. And... so on and so on! But it is so fun to search for and find it!
Diane, what a fun, informative video. I love that some of your viewers have also made comments about where they find things. 🥰 I would think the very old antique items you find are because you live in PA, home of our Constitution. I thrift shop often but have NEVER found old checks, receipts and billheads like you find. I have never seen bottle caps, canning/soda labels either. ❤ Love those Victorian calling cards and those Dennison labels are really cool, too. Your pretty bintage boxes are a treat for the eyes.
Thanks for sharing all your goodies. It gives me ideas about things to look for. I have not had a lot of success using alcohol inks on metal. Do you have any tips?
I just take a little disposable cup and pour a little alcohol ink in the bottom of it, and then drop in the metal piece I want to die (like paper clips). I have latex gloves on so I can turn the piece over, and handle it. I just lay it on a paper towel or a tray to dry. It dries super fast, because alcohol dries fast. Sometimes I then dip it in a 2nd color, to get a different effect. The ink doesn't provide a solid color, it's patchy, which I like.
The wide paper clips you found on Amazon ... I have found these same ones at the Dollar Tree here in Toledo. I wonder if they have them in your neck of the woods? (There were either 6 or 8 to the pack - so Amazon may have been a better deal?). Absolutely love everything you have collected and found over the years. 💗
Regarding your music ephemera, do you have plans to make a music themed journal? I’ve been accumulating stuff to make one since my son is a musician. We have estate sales here in Dallas but they can be pricey. There is a large flea market in Canton, TX one weekend a month that’s good but still not as affordable as yours. Thanks for sharing your ephemera with us. 😊

My sister and I filled out mother’s green stamp books. We thought it was fun!

Hi Diane I’d. Be interested in seeing this as well. ❤

I will try to show how I do it on a video, once the start-to-finish series is done.

@@DianeHubertPrettyPinkCottage It’s the patchiness I wondered about. How long do you keep it in the ink?
