I do love the uniquely charming styling of the old one, but the increased range makes it much more practical and feel much more safe, especially considering the Leaf’s reputation for major battery degradation. With the 150 mile range, I can feel confident that I can have a car that will still drive me to and from work in 5 years time
4:40 - I'm trying to retain the use of the word 'gas' for accelerator pedal. When using one-pedal driving, the accelerator becomes the 'Go And Stop' pedal; ie the G.A.S. pedal. You can still therefore 'step on the gas' to get a move on, or lift off the gas as required to brake.
the older version dominates on the used market, however. you can get them for less than 10k$, sometimes even less than 5k$ and these prices only continue to drop as new versions of the nissan leaf are released and drivers upgrade and trade in their old versions.
Electric cars are just not a car for everyone. I have a 2015 leaf and a 2017 Titan and I may talk about how good the leaf is but it’s only because it’s our second vehicle and I use it for a very specific purpose. To drive back and forth to work everyday and to the grocery store. We couldn’t realistically live with it as our only car. I live in Texas and everything is a long long drive. It definitely saves us a lot of time and money on gas and maintenance. A lot of CPS charging stations are free. We have free charging in the parking garage at work and never had to do any maintenance in 3 years. It helps to balance the cost of our truck. I have a wife and two kids so we need two vehicles.
90% of those who ownes an EV in norway use that as the nr 1 vehicle. The second is used well not at all to be honest. Many also has two EV’s or hybrids.
Norm K. With my 2018 Leaf, we had a charge point fitted that has a meter specific to the car so you can see right away how many kilowatts you used to charge it up. I’m in the U.K. and it was fitted by a company that Nissan uses called Pod Point.

They will talk about the features, the problems, the pros the cons, etc., but some videos I've seen completely forget to say what year car they are reviewing (2011 - 2017 all have the same body design).
I had an old leaf, nearly got rear ended a few times, cos brake lights didn’t come on while it was slowing from regen. That was worse than the battery capacity
Just bought the old one for about 8k :) it’s lost 3kwh of capacity in 5 years, it could lose 6 in the next 5 years and it’s still perfect for all my city routes. If it lasts 6 years it’s completely paid for itself in fuel and service savings. I may buy the 62kwh one as a primary car when the price drops.
I bought a 2015 Nissan Leaf SL. I bought it used and got it cheap. It was a leased car from Nissan. I've had it for over a year. I really like it but I lost one battery capacity bar. I'm down from the 12 bars to 11 bars. I think that's about 92% capacity. I can do about 80 miles on a charge without too much sweat, and that serves my purpose is fine. Of course I have a second car which is a turbo diesel VW TDI. The LEAF as an only car wouldn't be enough for me. Sometimes I need to drive much further in one shot.
@@bjoremo When it comes out... the leaf will still have a $7.5k tax rebate in the US. Meaning it will be $7.5k cheaper still. The Leaf is also coming out with a 60kWh version at like $35k soon so I'm interested to see that comparison.
Please correct the Federal Income Tax Credit slide. It should say: $2,500 + $417/kWh in excess of 5 kWh up to a max of $7,500. So the Leaf should get $7,500, not $5,000. If you purchase anything that has over a 16 kWh battery, you'll get the full $7,500 if you have enough tax liability. From April-June 2018 Xcel Energy had $3,000 off so could have saved $15,500 of a 2018 Leaf. Maybe they'll have the deal again soon.
Thanks for the review. I am looking at getting a used Leaf and it was helpful. One thing that I did notice during a fit test is that the center console in the 2018 and newer models seems to flare out slightly as it goes to the dashboard. Because of this there is a little less knee room for the driver than with the 2017 and earlier models. Being tall that does make a difference to me and may cause me to go no later than 2017 when buying.
I've had a 2012 Leaf for 3 years, (same as the 2017 but with a slightly smaller battery) and while I love the car, I'm very impressed with the new one. That said, the range of the new one is still a bit behind the competition. As much as I love the Leaf, if I were buying a new electric car now, I'd have to go with the Hyundai Kona EV instead. Hopefully Nissan will catch up soon with a 60kWh Leaf.
It really looks like Nissan just reskinned the old platform. The overall profile shape looks the same, as well as the sideglass, and the wheelbase is identical. I'm calling BS on this being 'all new.'
It’s really an “evolution” instead of “revolution”. More power, more tech, more range. Not mentioned: doors are the same... the new one is very much improved over the older one, but I have a 2012 SL I can tell you, it’s not a bad place to spend some time! (Side note: there is lots of FREE public charging around. My Nissan dealer even has the high speed 480v CHAdeMO free to use. I generally go there after work on 2nd shift.). I got a great deal on a used one. Then Nissan replaced the main battery under warranty, which was pure luck. 26,000 miles so far...😁 (oh I kept my gas cars, even with a new battery, it only had about 80 miles of range with the 24 kWh battery.)
10:41 CORRECTION!!!!!!! you get $2500 for first 5kWh and $417 for EACH kWh after(not per) 5kWh. Giving you exactly $7,504 for a 17kWh battery. The amount has changed slightly over the years. Back in 2011, the Chevy Volt got you the full $7500 with 5kWh and still did when it was discontinued with an 18.4kWh battery. As long as it is at least 16.99kWh capacity, your plug in hybrid or full EV will get you the whole $7500 tax credit. For those that have $7500 of tax owed after all deductions and other credits, they can take full advantage.
A neighbour of ours has the older model and swears by it. Newer doesn't always mean better, although in this instance they are the same model from the same manufacturer from the same plant. Lol.
Why is this review comparing the base model of the old leaf vs a top spec new leaf. Top spec old leaf (pre 2017) has: Same 1 pedal driving as in the new. Lane keep, blind spot, nicer leather seats, 360 cameras, Bose surround sound and subwoofer, Heates seats as standard, Led Headlights, Fog Lights, A nicer aircon unit not some aged old one (same aircon as the new one) A better screen and infotainment system To me this is a silly comparison. LIke why not compare the top spec of both or even the bottom spec of both?
All these EV videos talk about how long to fully charge the battery. But you will be rarely letting the battery go down to zero in most cases. So it's not accurate.
Was the cost to charge the Leaf factored in to the $1,000/year savings in gas? I always wonder what it costs to charge one of these for say 15,000 miles of driving per year using the National average price of electricity?
Matthew Emrick hard to say. I’ve had one for 3 years (2015). In San Antonio charging is free at most places. We have a ton of chargers in the parking garage at my work that are free and I also charge at home a couple times a week and I never noticed any difference on my electric bill. I’d also like to say not only do I not have to pay for gas but I also never have to get an oil change, any fluids at all, the brakes are basically good for a lifetime and the battery has an 8 year warranty. My round trip is about 50 miles per day. When I bought it Nissan had about $10k in rebates which brought my purchase price down to $21,600 and the next year I got a tax credit of about $7,100 which I managed to receive as a refund so my price turned out to be under $15k. Also Nissan gives 0% interest financing for however long you want on the leaf so I also save there. So if you buy at the right time and if the government still has tax incentives it can turn out to be one of the cheapest cars in the country to purchase and own. The maintenance savings is a huge savings for me of not just money but time as well.
I should also mention that I don’t drive this car for any environmental reason (it might be just as bad as a gas powered car). I also have a 2017 Nissan Titan. The leaf just saves me a ton of money in gas and maintenance and that’s the reason I have one. I have a wife and two kids and there is no way we could live with just a leaf. It’s just a second car for transportation to work and on occasion to run errands.

The "tax incentives" are taxpayer funded corporate welfare given to the dealers & manufacturers of "eco friendly" cars as a means to encourage modification of behavior to that preferred by politicians & their corporate cronies. I would absolutely love to have electric vehicles that were worth buying (insta-torque FTW), but the truth is that without massive taxpayer funded welfare programs, electric cars aren't worth what they actually cost. There is no means of energy storage that is less toxic than gasoline overall, or more efficient, or that has better reliability/longevity (especially in "extreme" temperatures like a northern US winter or southern US summer). And let's not forget the spontaneous combustion & lithium fires (I've seen the aftermath twice) that make the Ferrari fires look like candle flames. Until we have a better energy storage medium, & a better/cleaner/safer means of producing that energy, "electric" cars will continue to be a scam to get ecomentalists' votes, and to rob taxpayers & give money to corporations and individual members of the upper-middle class & above. Coal-powered "electric" cars are currently nothing more than welfare programs for upper class & corporate leeches.
JC Denton wow, that was a lot. Yeah idk, It saves me some money and maintenance cost. Maybe it encourages auto manufacturers to think outside the box. I think it’s kind of a dying breed though. It was cool, it showed some potential but I don’t see anyone but Tesla really trying to do anything with it. Tesla’s batteries are so big it might actually cost a bit to charge them. Got to start somewhere though.
using my leaf for everything in a 50 mile range....and thats more than enough for me...although for my skiing trips i bought a cheap used van...cant beat that yet. i love my leaf...dont want expensive tesla
If your doing more than 50 miles per day , your living far to far away from your place of work Move house or move jobs Your only on this planet maybes 80 years if your lucky Life is certainly to short to be spending a hour a day travelling to and from work II would never ever even think about taking a job , that was more than about 10 miles from home 😊

Recently figured out my works Mercedes Metris will kick the brake lights on when you lower the cruise control speed chosen. Even without any radar cruise control. Was surprised by that.
The motors are actually identical, but the new Leaf has an inverter that will dump more juice to the motor. I believe the new inverter can even be put into the older Leaf for plug-n-play power increase.
I’m kind of late to this video but it’s 2021 and this is probably still the best looking EV to be released so far and still looks like a car and that’s great that’s the main thing driving consumers away
Great video but one thing Ford is recalling over 1.5 Million focus models from 2012 -2018 cuz of fuel issue and it can stall the vehicle without warning and Ford says owners should keep the gas tank half full until the vehicles are repaired
The old Leaf reminds me of the Juke in car form, the new one is pretty much the corporation V motion grille which I do like. When I worked at Chevy and the Bolt came out, they use to call the Leaf the Leash since it didn't have much range. I like some electric vehicles and how torquey they are, but the news that I am most excited about is that I checked the Chevy website and the 19 Silverado Build & Price configurator is FINALLY UP to play around with. So are these faster than a Fiesta ......ST?
I bought a 67 plate older leaf here in the UK. It was on offer half price as the new model had just been released. It only had 4000 miles on clock as ex courtesy car. I wanted to test and see I like electric cars, incase I hate it. After 15 months owning, I am happy with what it offers for my shorter journey's. I'm always trying to push it to the max on eco to see just how far I can go, lol. Just don't turn the heater on or your screwed 🤑🤣. I see a model 3 Tesla for sale over here for £57000. So that's over £40000 more than I paid. If I was driving a diesel or petrol and saved £1000+ in fuel, it would still take me 40 years to claw back the difference. 🥴. However, I already own an electric, so I'm already saving £1000 a year, so kind of pointless paying that much anyway. Sure, my leaf ain't nowhere as quick as a Tesla, but the whole point is saving money....so, if u put your foot down, you defeat the object lol. Thanks for the video, I may upgrade to the newer leaf if I could get another bargain with trade deal. If not, I'll make do 😁👍
I've recently purchased one of the 2018 leafs, I was sold the car under the impression that it would be able to do 210 miles on a charge (Words of the salesman) Realistically I am getting 110 at max. Nissan tested the battery and it came back as having no faults so will not allow me to return it because there is a fault with the car and have recommended I speak to the dealership about going down the route of misspelling. Just wanted to see if anyone else was getting the same experience.
Next time you purchase a car, see if your state can record conversations without a person's consent, if so, then record the salesperson's lies. Also, be sure to research a car before going to the sales lot. That way, you can correct them more often and if they mess up a lot, then ask for a different salesperson or ask for an EV expert or ask when the EV expert works there.
the e braking is actually just semi...cause it will use the brakes to come to a stand. i like the old leaf better where i am in controll of the brakes.
Too bad no active cooling on the battery and poor battery reliability on the new model compare even to the old one. Also driving cost can be very similar, depending how much you pay for electricity or gas. Some states electricity is very expensive.
I have owned my leaf for 3 years now and I live in San Antonio Tx. Temperatures in the Summer are over 100 degrees and drop below freezing many times in the winter. It makes no difference to the battery cooling or reliability. I drive over 50 miles round trip to work 5 days a week. Charging at many charging stations are free and charging at home is so inexpensive you wouldn’t be able to tell a difference on your electric bill here. 3 years ago when I purchased the car the battery had an advertised range of 84 miles and today the range after each charge up is between 90-99 miles. I’ve never had to have any maintenance, no oil changes, no fluids, the brake pads are essentially good for life because it has 4 wheel discs on such a small car but most of the braking is regenerative. When I purchased it Nissan had $10k in instant rebates which brought the price down to $21,600. I received $7,100 in a tax credit which I managed to receive in a tax refund and Nissan is always doing 0% interest on the leafs to keep them moving. So with an end price of under $15k and no interest financing and no maintenance... this car is and has been probably the cheapest and most reliable car in the country.
@@Viewsfromhere dude. What I said is new leaf has worse battery. Actually yours has better, more reliable one. We have a Leaf in family and also had pure electric smart before. Both ok cars but leaf suffers due to inefficient battery culling as well as poor heat a/c system. They have improved a/c in 2016 I belive.
Nissan must be doing some kind of temperature compensation to control voltage and current when charging is happening. If the battery is way to cold or way to hot those cells wont last that many years.
@@sonicbhoc Will see if Nissan can actually throw some proper battery thermal management. I see plenty of low mile 2016's with multiple bars of loss listed on the used car sites.
and the new leaf is just as outdated software wise as the old leaf plus that new leaf gets slow after a cold Canadian winter and Nissan won't fix it cause it is not throwing out a fault code for it vs my i3s which is just as fast after winter as before winter so it basically works better then a leaf
I went with the BMW i3, test drove the new leave and tbh it's horrid to drive more so because you can not adjust the distance of the steering wheel ..at all you can only raise it up and down which is no good for me and I couldn't move my seat forward much because of the space I needed for my legs and pedals...very unvomfy to drive plus the interior looks dated compared the the i3 which came out in 2014 lol and the touch screen is a touchscreen from like 2010...very bad
marklola12 how are you liking your i3? I would rather get a used i3 but am concerned about maintenance cost especially when warranty is over, as BMW parts are $$$!
If Nissan continues to not explain all aspects of Leaf ownership, like what do you do when you do when you have a great car that is rendered a shadow of its' original self by constant need for topping up. Then introduce a predatory battery replacement plan ($10,000 US) destroying any resale value, KIA and Hyundai will benefit. Caveat Emptor
29k in 2019 will get you 215 hp and 230 miles of range so the leaf just keeps getting better shoot. but really though, why is there still absolutely NO CHARGING NETWORK besides tesla in the US 200k for a 200kw fast charger that could easily supply 3 cars at a time (pretty much all you see at tesla superchargers across the nation outside of cities even) you'd only need some 200 of them to cover the US highway system decently and you'd be able to skimp on some routes i suppose to start with ie the northwest and midwest other than 2 major east-west highways youd barely need 150 stations at 200k a pop or 30,000,000 dollars which is a joke for chevy/nissan/jaguar(tata)VW to split then again only the bolt/leaf few ipace are on the road with enough battery to even use them and nissan is wanting to use chademo oddly despite CCS winning in EU I'd have to guess that nissan and GM not agreeing on it nor wanting to fund it is what is causing the issue ford built gas stations back in the day how hard is it to pony up 30M to build a charging network for CCS 29k decent electric vehicles are here come 2019 by the time the credits burn out hopefully pack costs come down to keep them at 29k-31k price point for a while at 3% financing you'd save some 12,000(avg miles driven/yr)/35(avg mpg)*3.5$(cost/gallon) 1200$/yr+maintenance idk 100$/yr? = 1300$/yr 12,000(avg miles driven/yr)/230 miles(per charge)*64kwh(energy per 230 miles)*.1$/kwh likely avg nightly rate of power = 340 factor in inefficiency and phantom drain and you might be looking at 400$/yr you'll save some 900$/yr in real world terms let alone long term maintenance every 50k miles or w/e even investing in the stock market will only avg you about 10%. factor in inflation and long term capital gains and you're looking at 6% 900$/yr savings before 3% financing interest would justify an upfront premium of 4500$ over 5 years of financing it but it doesnt stop saving you money after 5 years. compared it with an 8 yr risky return on stocks and it would be a financially smart move to spend up to some 8k more on an electric car upfront especially as the ice car ages and needs engine work/transmission etc the nissan leaf will already be entering into commercial economic viability based upon NEW MSRP (discounts are possible) in 2019. considering alot of people invest their money into bonds/annuities etc at 5% or so and it could be worth it to spend upwards of 10k more on an electric and save money in the long run vs retirement accounts. assuming gas continues to increase faster than electricity (almost certain) you cannot lose however you would also have to weigh the fact that battery costs continue to plummet and EV production continues to grow bringing the costs down. when a leaf hits 25k with 230 miles you'd be a fool not to buy it over a 19k corolla
@@joey69d - Your link was full of unscientific hearsay LEAF bashing. Part of the confusion results from the fact that, unlike other EVs, the LEAF displays its capacity. The others hide their capacity losses and cover them up by tapping into battery reserves to mask normal degradation. ALL Lithium-ion batteries degrade at very similar rates. It's simple physics. The newer lizard LEAF batteries have advanced chemistries which tolerate extremely high temperatures so they don't need active cooling systems.
If you don't make over $200k you msy not be able to benefit from the $7500 tax credit. It is not a refundable(like earned income) tax credit and can't be carried over. Consult your accountant before you spend your $7500 bucks!
He haven't heard about folding seats? Lol no need for a trunk release when you have a hatchback. American unfortunately are familer only with 4 doors sedans.
12alocin leafs are common cars for taxis, and many have well over 150,000 miles before noticing a drop in range. Cost of new batteries? You don't have to replace all the batteries as they are separate cells. That's like saying oh I blew a spark plug so time to replace the whole engine. Remember, little to null fuel costs, no road tax, way better longativity and lack of moving parts results in much less to be repaired over time.
I love my early leaf. It’s our second car that gets 90% of the use :) 13% degradation and 72% drop in price, I feel I picked up a bargain :) for now ......
The Nissan leaf is total trash for anyone outside of southern California and Nissan's business ethics make them a terrible choice anywhere. Renault makes crap cars that don't last and support after 5 years is a nightmare, it doesn't matter what name badge they put on them

The old Leaf is based on the Citroen DS. I wish they had 'jazzed' up the original design rather than make a boring design.

I've had a 2012 Leaf for 3 years, (same as the 2017 but with a slightly smaller battery) and while I love the car, I'm very impressed with the new one. That said, the range of the new one is still a bit behind the competition. As much as I love the Leaf, if I were buying a new electric car now, I'd have to go with the Hyundai Kona EV instead. Hopefully Nissan will catch up soon with a 60kWh Leaf.
It really looks like Nissan just reskinned the old platform. The overall profile shape looks the same, as well as the sideglass, and the wheelbase is identical. I'm calling BS on this being 'all new.'
It’s really an “evolution” instead of “revolution”. More power, more tech, more range. Not mentioned: doors are the same... the new one is very much improved over the older one, but I have a 2012 SL I can tell you, it’s not a bad place to spend some time! (Side note: there is lots of FREE public charging around. My Nissan dealer even has the high speed 480v CHAdeMO free to use. I generally go there after work on 2nd shift.). I got a great deal on a used one. Then Nissan replaced the main battery under warranty, which was pure luck. 26,000 miles so far...😁 (oh I kept my gas cars, even with a new battery, it only had about 80 miles of range with the 24 kWh battery.)
Even the battery pack is identical in shape and size, and some enthusiasts have put a 40kw pack in a 1st gen car

10:41 CORRECTION!!!!!!! you get $2500 for first 5kWh and $417 for EACH kWh after(not per) 5kWh. Giving you exactly $7,504 for a 17kWh battery. The amount has changed slightly over the years. Back in 2011, the Chevy Volt got you the full $7500 with 5kWh and still did when it was discontinued with an 18.4kWh battery. As long as it is at least 16.99kWh capacity, your plug in hybrid or full EV will get you the whole $7500 tax credit. For those that have $7500 of tax owed after all deductions and other credits, they can take full advantage.

A neighbour of ours has the older model and swears by it. Newer doesn't always mean better, although in this instance they are the same model from the same manufacturer from the same plant. Lol.
Why is this review comparing the base model of the old leaf vs a top spec new leaf.
Top spec old leaf (pre 2017) has:

Lane keep,
blind spot,
nicer leather seats,
360 cameras,
Bose surround sound and subwoofer,
Heates seats as standard,
Led Headlights,
Fog Lights,
A nicer aircon unit not some aged old one (same aircon as the new one)
A better screen and infotainment system

All these EV videos talk about how long to fully charge the battery. But you will be rarely letting the battery go down to zero in most cases. So it's not accurate.
Was the cost to charge the Leaf factored in to the $1,000/year savings in gas? I always wonder what it costs to charge one of these for say 15,000 miles of driving per year using the National average price of electricity?
Matthew Emrick hard to say. I’ve had one for 3 years (2015). In San Antonio charging is free at most places. We have a ton of chargers in the parking garage at my work that are free and I also charge at home a couple times a week and I never noticed any difference on my electric bill. I’d also like to say not only do I not have to pay for gas but I also never have to get an oil change, any fluids at all, the brakes are basically good for a lifetime and the battery has an 8 year warranty. My round trip is about 50 miles per day. When I bought it Nissan had about $10k in rebates which brought my purchase price down to $21,600 and the next year I got a tax credit of about $7,100 which I managed to receive as a refund so my price turned out to be under $15k. Also Nissan gives 0% interest financing for however long you want on the leaf so I also save there. So if you buy at the right time and if the government still has tax incentives it can turn out to be one of the cheapest cars in the country to purchase and own. The maintenance savings is a huge savings for me of not just money but time as well.

I should also mention that I don’t drive this car for any environmental reason (it might be just as bad as a gas powered car). I also have a 2017 Nissan Titan. The leaf just saves me a ton of money in gas and maintenance and that’s the reason I have one. I have a wife and two kids and there is no way we could live with just a leaf. It’s just a second car for transportation to work and on occasion to run errands.

The "tax incentives" are taxpayer funded corporate welfare given to the dealers & manufacturers of "eco friendly" cars as a means to encourage modification of behavior to that preferred by politicians & their corporate cronies.
I would absolutely love to have electric vehicles that were worth buying (insta-torque FTW), but the truth is that without massive taxpayer funded welfare programs, electric cars aren't worth what they actually cost. There is no means of energy storage that is less toxic than gasoline overall, or more efficient, or that has better reliability/longevity (especially in "extreme" temperatures like a northern US winter or southern US summer). And let's not forget the spontaneous combustion & lithium fires (I've seen the aftermath twice) that make the Ferrari fires look like candle flames.
Until we have a better energy storage medium, & a better/cleaner/safer means of producing that energy, "electric" cars will continue to be a scam to get ecomentalists' votes, and to rob taxpayers & give money to corporations and individual members of the upper-middle class & above.
Coal-powered "electric" cars are currently nothing more than welfare programs for upper class & corporate leeches.

It was cool, it showed some potential but I don’t see anyone but Tesla really trying to do anything with it. Tesla’s batteries are so big it might actually cost a bit to charge them. Got to start somewhere though.

using my leaf for everything in a 50 mile range....and thats more than enough for me...although for my skiing trips i bought a cheap used van...cant beat that yet.

The motors are actually identical, but the new Leaf has an inverter that will dump more juice to the motor. I believe the new inverter can even be put into the older Leaf for plug-n-play power increase.

Evs also cost more on insurance and any possible repairs. A battery change can easily wipe out all your gas savings.
Great video but one thing Ford is recalling over 1.5 Million focus models from 2012 -2018 cuz of fuel issue and it can stall the vehicle without warning and Ford says owners should keep the gas tank half full until the vehicles are repaired
The old Leaf reminds me of the Juke in car form, the new one is pretty much the corporation V motion grille which I do like. When I worked at Chevy and the Bolt came out, they use to call the Leaf the Leash since it didn't have much range. I like some electric vehicles and how torquey they are, but the news that I am most excited about is that I checked the Chevy website and the 19 Silverado Build & Price configurator is FINALLY UP to play around with.

I bought a 67 plate older leaf here in the UK. It was on offer half price as the new model had just been released. It only had 4000 miles on clock as ex courtesy car. I wanted to test and see I like electric cars, incase I hate it. After 15 months owning, I am happy with what it offers for my shorter journey's. I'm always trying to push it to the max on eco to see just how far I can go, lol. Just don't turn the heater on or your screwed 🤑🤣.
I see a model 3 Tesla for sale over here for £57000. So that's over £40000 more than I paid. If I was driving a diesel or petrol and saved £1000+ in fuel, it would still take me 40 years to claw back the difference. 🥴. However, I already own an electric, so I'm already saving £1000 a year, so kind of pointless paying that much anyway. Sure, my leaf ain't nowhere as quick as a Tesla, but the whole point is saving money....so, if u put your foot down, you defeat the object lol.

I've recently purchased one of the 2018 leafs, I was sold the car under the impression that it would be able to do 210 miles on a charge (Words of the salesman) Realistically I am getting 110 at max.
Nissan tested the battery and it came back as having no faults so will not allow me to return it because there is a fault with the car and have recommended I speak to the dealership about going down the route of misspelling.
Just wanted to see if anyone else was getting the same experience.
Next time you purchase a car, see if your state can record conversations without a person's consent, if so, then record the salesperson's lies. Also, be sure to research a car before going to the sales lot. That way, you can correct them more often and if they mess up a lot, then ask for a different salesperson or ask for an EV expert or ask when the EV expert works there.
You should do 0-30 tests. It's for town, not highway.

the e braking is actually just semi...cause it will use the brakes to come to a stand. i like the old leaf better where i am in controll of the brakes.
Too bad no active cooling on the battery and poor battery reliability on the new model compare even to the old one. Also driving cost can be very similar, depending how much you pay for electricity or gas. Some states electricity is very expensive.
I have owned my leaf for 3 years now and I live in San Antonio Tx. Temperatures in the Summer are over 100 degrees and drop below freezing many times in the winter. It makes no difference to the battery cooling or reliability. I drive over 50 miles round trip to work 5 days a week. Charging at many charging stations are free and charging at home is so inexpensive you wouldn’t be able to tell a difference on your electric bill here. 3 years ago when I purchased the car the battery had an advertised range of 84 miles and today the range after each charge up is between 90-99 miles. I’ve never had to have any maintenance, no oil changes, no fluids, the brake pads are essentially good for life because it has 4 wheel discs on such a small car but most of the braking is regenerative.
When I purchased it Nissan had $10k in instant rebates which brought the price down to $21,600. I received $7,100 in a tax credit which I managed to receive in a tax refund and Nissan is always doing 0% interest on the leafs to keep them moving. So with an end price of under $15k and no interest financing and no maintenance... this car is and has been probably the cheapest and most reliable car in the country.

Both ok cars but leaf suffers due to inefficient battery culling as well as poor heat a/c system. They have improved a/c in 2016 I belive.
Nissan must be doing some kind of temperature compensation to control voltage and current when charging is happening. If the battery is way to cold or way to hot those cells wont last that many years.

Avoid both & maybe the Leaf 2.1 will get the battery thermal management correct.

The LEAF doesn't need the expense and complexity of an actively cooled battery. Its a waste of money and less reliable.
Thing is, the leaf has HORRIBLE resale. You can find lightly used ones for as low as 6-8k.
and the new leaf is just as outdated software wise as the old leaf plus that new leaf gets slow after a cold Canadian winter and Nissan won't fix it cause it is not throwing out a fault code for it vs my i3s which is just as fast after winter as before winter so it basically works better then a leaf

I went with the BMW i3, test drove the new leave and tbh it's horrid to drive more so because you can not adjust the distance of the steering wheel
..at all you can only raise it up and down which is no good for me and I couldn't move my seat forward much because of the space I needed for my legs and pedals...very unvomfy to drive plus the interior looks dated compared the the i3 which came out in 2014 lol and the touch screen is a touchscreen from like 2010...very bad

If Nissan continues to not explain all aspects of Leaf ownership, like what do you do when you do when you have a great car that is rendered a shadow of its' original self by constant need for topping up. Then introduce a predatory battery replacement plan ($10,000 US) destroying any resale value, KIA and Hyundai will benefit. Caveat Emptor
29k in 2019 will get you 215 hp and 230 miles of range so the leaf just keeps getting better shoot.

200k for a 200kw fast charger that could easily supply 3 cars at a time (pretty much all you see at tesla superchargers across the nation outside of cities even)
you'd only need some 200 of them to cover the US highway system decently

900$/yr savings before 3% financing interest would justify an upfront premium of 4500$ over 5 years of financing it
but it doesnt stop saving you money after 5 years. compared it with an 8 yr risky return on stocks and it would be a financially smart move to spend up to some 8k more on an electric car upfront especially as the ice car ages and needs engine work/transmission etc
the nissan leaf will already be entering into commercial economic viability based upon NEW MSRP (discounts are possible) in 2019.
considering alot of people invest their money into bonds/annuities etc at 5% or so and it could be worth it to spend upwards of 10k more on an electric and save money in the long run vs retirement accounts.
assuming gas continues to increase faster than electricity (almost certain) you cannot lose
however you would also have to weigh the fact that battery costs continue to plummet and EV production continues to grow bringing the costs down.
when a leaf hits 25k with 230 miles you'd be a fool not to buy it over a 19k corolla
The tax credit info is false. Even a volt with 18kwh battery gets full 7500. But you must be liable for that amount.
But does the new Leaf have active thermal management for the battery? No? They didn't fix that?

The others hide their capacity losses and cover them up by tapping into battery reserves to mask normal degradation. ALL Lithium-ion batteries degrade at very similar rates. It's simple physics. The newer lizard LEAF batteries have advanced chemistries which tolerate extremely high temperatures so they don't need active cooling systems.

If you don't make over $200k you msy not be able to benefit from the $7500 tax credit. It is not a refundable(like earned income) tax credit and can't be carried over. Consult your accountant before you spend your $7500 bucks!

Battery degradation? Cost of new batteries? Lithium the new wonder material, asbestos used to be the wonder material of the age.
12alocin leafs are common cars for taxis, and many have well over 150,000 miles before noticing a drop in range. Cost of new batteries? You don't have to replace all the batteries as they are separate cells. That's like saying oh I blew a spark plug so time to replace the whole engine. Remember, little to null fuel costs, no road tax, way better longativity and lack of moving parts results in much less to be repaired over time.

The Nissan leaf is total trash for anyone outside of southern California and Nissan's business ethics make them a terrible choice anywhere. Renault makes crap cars that don't last and support after 5 years is a nightmare, it doesn't matter what name badge they put on them
