Actually, I was going to comment that his ear is much better than mine. I heard this cover before I saw the video and, in addition to missing the Kirsten/Mitch change in lead, I also missed the Scott/Matt handoff at the beginning! They are incredible.
You have discovered one of PTX's secrets -- Kirstin and Mitch can match each others voices perfectly. It really helps when they sing harmony and you really can't tell them apart. When they want. Other times, they have clearly different tonalities. It's kind of magic.
The first time I heard this Pentatonix version of the song, I heard myself saying something I never thought I would say. "Pentatonix just outdid Elton John on an Elton John song!" Basically, they accomplished the impossible! The original Lion King was released in 1994. I was already a married man by that time, but my late wife was a BIG Disney fan, so The Lion King was one of our date night events, and does bring some tears to my eyes because of that. This PTX version was recorded to promote the 2019 "live action" remake film. I've never seen that one.
Larry, I am seeing you everywhere 😊. Oh, you should know how I appreciate the depth of information that I get from your comments. I'm sorry learning about your loss. God bless always
Matt is so incredibly awesome! He is a master of the bass slide, and when he does the drop-off of the bass - it really hits the mark! To me, while they all shone brightly in this song, the hero was Matt in the background! And yes, I think every guy wants their woman to wear a dress like that........
Mitch brings tears of joy and amazement. PTX has outdone themselves. Matt is, along with Kevin, truly the glue that holds the whole thing together. Scott and Kirstie provide the build up. BRAVO!
This has to be one of the, if not THE, most beautiful videos ever made! The staging, scenery, voices & harmonies, costumes, right down to the little fireflies at the end! Just absolutely BEAUTIFUL! 💞
What a great reaction!! This is one of my absolute favorites from them. The arrangement is amazing. The harmonies are so good. Of course they're all perfect but my ear goes right to Matt's spectacular bassline. He's got such an incredible rich tone and beat bass. A great example of what he can do is their "New Rules x Are You That Somebody?" mash-up. Him & Kevin together on that track is mind-blowing. I think you'd really like it.
New Rules x Are You That Somebody is also my favorite for Matt. I am a total Mitch fangirl but I can't take my eyes off Matt in that video, even when he's blurry in the background 😂
In 1994, I was in 10th or 11th grade. I loved the movie, and now it's my 19 yo son's favorite! Your Mitch face was fantastic, by the way! Best one yet, I think! Your comments on Kirstin's dress were hilarious, but you were being very gentleman-like (quite unlike a few others I have heard!). They all definitely brought their best to this song.
I wish more people appreciated Kirstin’s performance here. She’s belting it out and totally slaying Disney - like usual. But once Mitch hits that note, I feel like a lot of people totally forget about her. I felt the same way in Amazing Grace…. In my opinion, her best performance yet- but everyone kind of forgets bc Kevin had his solo. Don’t get me wrong, I totally can understand people being shocked but I just feel Kirstin doesn’t get the recognition she deserves
I agree with you Laurie, she killed this and amazing grace, it may not have come out of my mouth but it was definitely in my mind, thanks for watching!
@@rocksolidreactions3901 I wasn’t commenting on you specifically. I just meant, in general, in all the reactions I see, the reactor’s look so shocked when Kirstin belts but then they get distracted by Mitch or Kevin lol

Yes, Kevin is awesome holding the rhythm and percussion, but when he can let that go for a minute and join the rest of the group in a 5-part harmony... choirs of angels! On Mitch, they decided to do THREE key changes in this song, moving up each time, which left Mitch in the rafters. Don't we love it??? Thanks for another great reaction. Good luck getting your honey to wear that neckline! ;-)
Choirs of angels indeed Kaye, and heck yes we love Mitch in the rafters. She for sure wouldn’t wear it in public but maybe a private viewing just for me could be arranged 😉
I enjoyed your reaction. Thank you. They did an outstanding job with the song and the video. Glad that you liked it so much. I hope that you watch the Behind The Scenes video for this. It's entertaining and you can see them starting the arrangement for the song in a little room while on tour.
Very good reaction. This song was released without a video first. And some reactors could not distinguish the voice changes between Kirstie and Mitch AND Scott and Matt. That is one of the "secrets" of the sound of PTX. They can double up between the main singers. Which adds a layer of "magic" to their sound. This has always been the case with Kirstie and Mitch. But now they can do it with Scott and Matt. Gives them a lot more to work with in the arrangement of their vocals. Thanks for all you efforts in your reactions.
I met my hubby in 1989, we got married in 1990 & after 3 years of trying to concieve, having all kinds of exploratory surgeries & tests & getting our hopes up every month only to be heartbroken, I finally got pregnant in 1994! Filmed live. Second key change wasn’t part of the original song. Mitch suggested it. There is a Behind the Scenes showing how the set was set up, and then the camera crew filming it. Also shots of PTX using little fans to try to keep cool since the lights were hot.
The Lion King is my all time favorite Disney movie. (And I’m old so I have seen a lot of Disney movies. 😉) My son and I knew every single word to every single song. Green backlights... adding to this jungle fever, LOL! I was a student when the Lion King was released, ten years later our then four year old son was pretty much addicted to the movie. I think it was because of him I kinda knew the whole movie by heart, nearly sentence after sentence!
