I don't think it can be appriciated enough how much this woman uses psychology in her video. From the colors to the background layout to the music in the background playing softly as she enlightens us. Great video as always PhD Fraza. Ciao
I'm a student at my final year in high school .so it's a long time to be a phd student (I wish). and the reason why I'm watching this is to gain the ability of taking excellent organized notes for my final year exams and absolutely for my phd in the future. I really appreciated to Mrs fraza for such great video.🥰💯💯 et je parle le francais 😅😅
I am pursuing my data science degree and at the same time a working professional. I cannot stress more how important taking notes are especially when you're a working professional. The memory fade-away when you move from one topic to different topic... I am big fan of taking notes on the notebook than digitally or highlight on book... If you're taking digital notebook then you'll realize that over the period of time, you've gathered a lot of junk and become more habitual of digital device...
The way you use Notion is really inspiring. I've been using RemNote to collect and connect what I'm learning but it would be nice to just integrate this "knowledge database" into my Notion instead. The fewer apps I have to keep track of the better!
i am jealous of your copy of GEB that is not completely falling apart. mine is a second printing from 1980 and has seen much better days. much of the content has not aged a bit, however
I was able to learn Chinese Mandarin language due to my teachers in China and the locals up in the Northern side of China. Understanding the parts of speech and sentence structure of any language is key to effective understanding to becoming fluent and also communicating with the locals.
similar set up, notion is great. short and sweet, just enter paper name, link to it and have the option to add notes if its relvevant. feel like i have my own internet at that point with the search feature. sure i will use it for years to come, have a personal bank of knowledge (also made a clip on my channel if youre curious charlotte on the notion set up, its very small in the sense of input, can document every paper i read this way) thanks for sharing!
I'm going into Computer Engineering with an emphasis on human interaction. While doing a minor in Civil Rights activism for the Latinx community. It's ALOT of info to remember. Thank you for sharing your study habits. Also, I'm currently learning Nahuatl (Aztec), and it's difficult because there are few native speakers or materials to immerse myself in. But I really love learning it still.
Forget activism & any major that ends in "Studies." Get yourself ahead in life and teach others willing to learn to do the same & you'll accomplish multiples of what so called activists do. Witness the BLM knuckleheads, Al Sharpto & his $3k suits, etc. posing & accomplishing nothing. Witness Dr. Ben Carson, poor black kid from the bad part of Detroit who saved many many lives & is a living exemplar & role model of success.
Thanks for this video. I am going to look into these tools. I am still a paper-copy kind of guy and it's getting unmanageable. Literally took notes on your video on the back of a printed article lol (that I haven't read yet lol). Douglas Hofstadter's writing is great. He wrote a forward to a book I have called Masters of Deception that features lots of international art, including M.C. Escher. It's basically an art showcase of what Neil deGrasse Tyson calls "brain fails". Totally totally *totally* recommend it.
I just started literature survey to find a MSc. thesis topic and felt completely lost among too many papers. Thank you for this video, I will try your technique to research.
Hi! Thank you for your videos! I was wondering how you can have full research articles on instapaper as they seem to just put the abstract and disregard the rest even if the full text of the article is available!
Hi Charlotte! Love the videos! Always learning something new. Do you use Notion as a « Second Brain », as the Ali or Elizabeth? Have you used Obsidian by any chance? Obrigado! Learning portugues and korean over here!
No I still haven't had a chance to use obsidian yet (think I should), but yes a large part of my system is based on Alis, but I adapt it to work with my PhD. I love how he organizes everything!
@@CharlotteFraza if you do try it out, I would love to know your take away from how it allows information to be organized in different ways. Analogue to the brain in many ways. Thanks for answering : ) ruclips.net/video/AhhFLXfldJQ/видео.html
@CharlotteFraza what you say about making links is what i use obsidian for - it allows me to link words or concepts then see all the articles linked to those in a graph view. It's been amazing for my research and general deep understanding of my subject area - everything i studied in undergrad is also included so unusual links i wouldnt otherwise have considered come up, which is so cool!
Let me say upfron that I loved your video!! I dropped out of a PhD program and among the reasons for me leaving was the faculty being unable to have empathy for the students who haven't mastered their research process. When I came to talk with the faculty about that they answered something like "I just do... I do not know what else can I show...". So right now I am applying for other programs and I have been developing my own method, especially for note taking, and you went right on the money for me when you talked about retrieving and combining information. Though, I would like to make some suggestions: Let me start by saying that I am from Brazil and English is not a language talked in the country. So not only I am not proficient, I am used to American and British accent. So not being used to your dutch accent might have compromised my judgment. 1) You mention about Notion, Instapaper and Readwise a couple of times, though in the first minutes I have difficulties to understand what they were. First I thought they were some kind of methods but only when I opened the description of your video I noticed they were actually apps. My recommendation would be in the future to take a few seconds to describe what they are before frequently mentioning them 2) I thought the video was too fast paced (again, consider my difficulties with the accent here). It felt like you did not catch a breath throughout the whole video. More than once I had to stop the video and catch a breath myself so I could process what you said and understand how your suggestions could help me. My expectations was the video to be some kind of a conversation but it felt like non stop information. Nonetheless, I want to conclude saying I loved your video!! It is the first one I read about the topic and it helped a lot!! Thank you very much!!!
You can show down video speed and turn on the automated closed-captioning (CC) for English subtitles or to translate into Brazilian Portuguese if needed.
Nice video, thanks for sharing! The thing is that I also enjoy reading paper books because they make me more concentrated and memorize things better, but it seems not easy to collect information from paper books into digital platforms, like notion... Do you have good advice for that, or you think it is ok to simply treat the two kinds of reading differently (which I am doing now)?
I am a medical student and want to do research on finding new treatments in psychiatry for computational perspective which books should I read which starts from basic and what areas of mathematics and physics should I read and books that starts from basic
Not sure this would work with arxiv papers on instapaper, i would have to just add the arxiv link and not the paper itself, so i won't be able to read without downloading the file either ways.
Hi Charlotte, do you have a paid subscription for Notion? I want to create a database to store my notes but after only 2 uploads of word documents, it says there's no more space. How do you manage to store a large amount of notes/imports on notion? Is it possible without paying? Thanks.
I am curious why you use instapaper + readwise instead of zotero? Have you tried a tool for thought (TfT) like Obsidian, Roam, Logseq etc? The slip box you talk about seems much easier to do in a tool like that. My bias is towards Zotero and Obsidian as that is my toolkit but we all work differently so am curious to the rational behind your choices 😁
Yes, I use Zotero as well, for really annotating papers etc, but I quite like the system as I have it now and it indeed takes a big step to move everything to a new system, so I need to see a big benefit idd :D.
@@CharlotteFraza ah ok, so was this focused on webpages more than articles? Totally understand the friction of switching, just wondering if you had tried them 😁

Hi...I watch your skill-based clips, which are quite inspiring. I'm a study coach and memory trainer coupled with math tuition and other skill-based courses.
