It still boggles my mind that we almost didn't have this band. If not for crazy fate and a million views we wouldn't. Forever grateful for small miracles.
The song that saved BAND-MAID and their very first music video. Miku couldn't even play guitar yet. They've all leveled up so much in the past decade. 😀
They played this live at Yokohama Arena for the 10th anniversary tour finale in November, and they took it up a notch, especially Misa, playing with a pick and some nice punchy distortion, amazing bass tone. And Miku was playing the guitar in earnest. Hopefully they put that live version on their RUclips channel after they release the concert DVD.
Great reaction guys and this was their first MV (music was provided by their label) but this song set their sound and was a huge hit on Facebook when it first came out in 2015 and because it got so many views it saved the band (management hadn't told them until years later, but this was to be their last chance).
That better not be Bud Light!! ....Lol! The video/song that saved their careers started it all. Miku couldn't even play a guitar here, now she has her own signature Zemaitis, hardest working girl in Rock!
Band Maid baby pictures. A snapshot in time before the world had discovered them. When they shot this video, they had no idea that management was going to drop them. Haha! Twist of fate, a viral video, and Band Maid ends up dropping them! Just went through all of your reactions and was a bit surprised to not see “Puzzle” yet. Official live, of course. It’s one of the big ones
@@eaglez1901 They were awesome. I was right between Jayoung & Iree, & Yeongeun spoke to me at the M&G. I blame her for me catching Covid 2 days later.😔
@@eaglez1901 Thx Eaglez. When they next come to the US hopefully they'll have more original material cos they did have to fill out the 1½hr set with a few covers :)
@@GaryHolloway-810 Oh no.. Hope you feel beter soon Sir.. Going off at a tangent, did Kanami ever tell you why she changed her black outfit in this video?? By far her best outfit, especially the crown hat? Just saying.. Lol
I find it interesting that few people notice the 2 Jimi Hendrix stickers on MISA's bass guitar. A shout out to her mother who listened to Jimi when MISA was younger. Many of the members are into old classic rock bands. Deep Purple - Carlos Santana - to name a couple.
Evening Gentlemen.. This was my intro to the Maids.. The rest is history.. Lol Still one of my favorite songs.. Looking forward to your deep dive.. Check out Real existence Live it's a banger!!! Bass bass bass.. You need to see Fami (new bassist from Lovebites) doing a cover of the song Alien alien.. It will be the best thing you see today.. She was 17 in the video.. WTF just How?? Best wishes from France
During the performance of "Thrill", Miku, the rhythm guitarist wearing the red rose on her head, didn't know how to play guitar. She, basically, held it. However, Kanami, the lead guitarist, became her sensei and taught her how to play. To her credit, Miku worked hard and has become a very competent and effective rhythm guitarist, with a few leads here and there. I always have loved the way Band Maid has incorporated the bass guitar in their sound. This song basically saved and launched their careers. Amazing breakout song.
Saiki sings, “I turn my earphones up. Nothing can beat the ecstasy of living with this Thrill.” And Miku sings, “A pigeon traces an arc in the shrunken sky.” No matter what song you're listening to, with Band-Maid the surprises and thrills ain't never gone. 🤘😉 Thx, Guys!
They amaze me every Fucking time. 🤘🤘🤘I agree V. this is my favorite so far. Rockin the Rickenbacker Jason. Is that a 620 solid body? Tuneage Ambassador Jenks
Hey Guys! My second favorite bands in the world after The Warning! However, I saw Band-Maid in Atlanta in May of 2023, and I wanted to strangle their sound guy. The Kick drum was 10 times louder than anything else in the band. It drowned out EVRY other instrument and the vocals. I final got to see them live and I have never been so disappointed! The band obviously played great, but you'd never know it. I hope I get to see them again with a sound guy that isn't deaf and stupid. SMDH. Sorry, rant over. LOL Anyway, Rock On Guys!
Band-Maid is awesome! I'm going to do the "if you like this" suggestions. Try "Order", "Freezer" and "Flying High". Yep, old school hard rock. Thanks for the reaction.
Miku's Rick, she couldn't play guitar, but their agency thought the "Optics" would look better if there was a second guitarist. So it was decided rather than bringing in an actual guitarist, Miku would hold one and mimic playing. To that end, since she didn't own a guitar, she went to a music store and bought the only guitar that was black and white like her maid uniform. and that was her Rick 620. For about 3-4 months, it would spend more time on it's stand on stage, and she did learn 2 or 3 chords, but she still couldn't really play. Finally Akane said that if Miku was going to hold the guitar, she NEEDED to learn how to play it. And Miku asked Kanami to teach her. Today, Miku is considered to be a very accomplished live rhythm guitarist. Note, she doesn't play in the studio, Kanami plays her parts in the studio, then teaches Miku how to play it for concerts, as Miku can't read music. And she has stated in several interviews that she plays by ear or tablature. As her skills have progressed though, Kanami has written parts specifically so Miku takes more lead licks and riffs to help shape their sound. In most of their newer music, if you listen carefully you can hear where Miku stops playing chords and and plays lead licks to enhance or contrast what Kanami or MISA are doing.
This song changed Band Maids fortune Did the success of this song change the direction of the band or did a change of direction produce this successful song?
The former. The single that it came off of kind of shows that. That 3 song single has: Thrill, a super catchy vocal anthemic poppy but hard-rock song with very heavy guitars and multiple solos, a latin fusion rock earworm that is still unlike anything before or since, and a Miku-led bright and shiny pop-punk song very similar to (but honestly much better than) their first album that also has a killer solo. Because Thrill's music video took off, their label was willing to start throwing everything at the wall and seeing what stuck. That's why New Beginning (and Brand New Maid ftm) has so many different subgenres of rock.
No other band breaks new gate like Band-Maid. PS If you want to do a deep dive into Band-Maid, I'd have to recommend looking at the 6 videos made by Ohrenje, which are documentaries about each member (Miku gets 2 because, although she gets less attention in reactions than other members, Band-Maid is her creation and...well, you'll just have to watch and learn why she needs 2 documentaries!) and the band. The first is on Saiki ( ruclips.net/video/3Mx_rZnqayg/видео.htmlsi=eOL7xZwnvTFSJaTK ) and they will all tell you everything you ever wanted to know about Band-Maid.

A great suggestion... do a double. Puzzle live and then acoustic, shows their range.
BAND MAID : Pure beauty in sound.😌

Like many others, this was the first song I heard from BAND-MAID that many years ago. They only getting better and better...but this song is classic!
LOL. Wellllllll, they were very young filming the MV.
You should see the LIVE version. They come so far in the last 10 years.

The MV that saved the band.
The song that started it all, at least for me! After watching this video I was hooked and went to "Dice" next. Haven't turned away since!
I suggest the song The Non-fiction Days for more early awesomeness.
👍👍BAND-MAID 🔥🔥. 🖖❤

And to think this is one of their simplest songs.
Ah yes, the freaking B-SIDE that completely eclipsed the record company chosen pop-rock single and saved them from being dropped.
