    Matt Niskanen is one of the only players to play for all three sides of the Triangle of Hatred: Pittsburgh, Washington, and Philadelphia. Jaromir Jagr is the only other player I can think of off the top of my head.

    Still one of the most underrated trades at the time: Niskanen & Neal for Goligoski 🐧

  • @MajikMittens
    @MajikMittens 4 года назад

    Niskanen was the most reliable defenseman in his own zone that the Caps had over the course of his tenure. Huge part of the team winning a cup. One of my favourites and his services will always be appreciated!

    I remember I was a a caps flyers game in dc and Matt Niskanen layed the biggest hit I had ever seen.
    Despite him playing 5 seasons for my favorite team I still have to look up how to spell his name.

  • @kennycai8695

    I remember the Capitals getting dunked on a lot when we signed Niskanen and Orpik to those contracts. Not only were they former Penguins (cue 'sloppy seconds' insults), but the term length was also pretty high. Years later, maybe the Capitals did overpay, but adding them both paid dividends, especially with a Cup win. For anyone that still wants to dunk on the Caps for signing them both, let me ask you something: can you put a price on leadership qualities or on intangibles?
    I wish you the best in retirement, Nisky. You will always be a hero to the Capitals faithful.

    Hurts the Flyers quite a bit, especially with the expansion draft coming up. With his contract expiring at the end of next season, it made the expansion draft easy for the Flyers with them protecting Provorov, Sanheim, and Myers. Now if the Flyers go out and sign a top 4 guy this off-season, they'll have four d-men that they'll need to protect.

    Niskanen’s from near me in MN, in fact I skated with him one summer (Pitt years). He left half way through, lol, we probably weren’t good enough. Love his game though, he could play on my team anytime.

    Congrats on Nisky for a really good career. In terms of the Flyers, do you look to someone like Torey Krug to replace him or hope for a return to form for Ghost or young guys like Cam York or Egor Zamula to make the pro roster next year? There's plenty of intriguing options with that newfound cap space.

    Seriously Question in regards to niskys suspension.
    He broke someones jaw with a crosscheck, while his former teammate Wilson broke someones jaw on a risky hit- how does Nisky get away with a one day suspension, on a play that is much more deliberately violent?

    As a flyers fan they should do either trade for Liane or sign Alex P. Problem is trading for Laine they want D men and Flyers cant give up more Dmen.

    I guess he figures he's got everything he needs (cup ring), and enough money that he won't miss 5 mil? Still seems odd to be retiring at such a young age and while his last seasons wasn't bad.

    Glad he is gone. He was a bum. Crosby fought him back in the day, later joined Pittsburgh, then he signed with Pittsburgh's rival team and few years later in the playoffs he cross checked Crosby into his head. That was such a dirty play that Fleury removed his name from his mask where he had names of his former teammates. He was a snake and a dirty player.
