VAR doesn’t make the call tho, it’s only there for suggestions in case the ref missed something. At the end of the day it’s the in-field referee that has the final say. The problem is the uneducated refs, not VAR.

I think the whole goalie off the line rule should be changed. From the sound of the whistle the goalie should be able to come off by a foot. Convert that into centimeters if you will. Why should the striker have every advantage here? It's impossible for a goalie at the strike of the ball to just jump to a corner.

The rule of the penalty kick saying that the goalkeeper must have minimum one of her/his foot on the line when the kicker touch the ball. If not, it's a fault. It's a new rule since June 1th. Unfortunately for Nnadozie, both of her feet are offline when Renard kicked for the first time. For the second time, Nnadozie had still her right foot on the line when Renard kick the ball. There had the same situation during Scotland vs Argentina match and Jamaica vs Italy. The first kicks were missed too and the penalty had to be rekicked because the goalkeepers weren't on the line. .

Funnily enough America won the world cup in 99 by breaking this rule EVERY SINGLE TIME! (their gk was 2 or 3 meters off the line for all penalties...) And it was never recalled. If we all want football governed by the letter of the VAR law, then refs should be instructed - and we should be prepared - to review 98% of all penalty kicks for either a keeper moving early or a player entering the box early. I think you'd admit that movement by either the keeper or non-kick-taking player happens about that often. We should then expect that penalties be taken over, and over, and over, and over until nobody moves a muscle - which I personally think would be a detriment to the sport.

It's nothing to do wih1 or 2 foot, Goalkeeper can move 2 foot ON THE LINE.
The keeper can move as much as they want, but need to have atleast one foot on/behind the line. Otherwise the goalkeeper would stand directly infront of the ball... It has always been like this, however with VAR this is now being checked.

The rule of the penalty kick saying that the goalkeeper must have minimum one of her/his foot on the line when the kicker touch the ball. If not, it's a fault. It's a new rule since June 1th. Unfortunately for Nnadozie, both of her feet are offline when Renard kicked for the first time. For the second time, Nnadozie had still her right foot on the line when Renard kick the ball. There had the same situation during Scotland vs Argentina match and Jamaica vs Italy. The first kicks were missed too and the penalty had to be rekicked because the goalkeepers weren't on the line. .

I totally agree that the VAR decision on the penalty retake was wrong. Was it just an error in judgement or a deliberate manipulation by the VAR team? Because if you pause the video at the moment of the kick it can be clearly seen that the goal keeper's feet were still planted on the goal line, so she committed no offence. I can understand that the referee's view can be affected by the angle shown to her by the VAR, but I wonder how did the VAR team miss this? Do you understand the amount of pressure on the goal keepers during a penalty? The slightest delay in the goal keeper's reaction time can be the difference between a saved penalty and a near miss. Do you want to give the penalty kicker an undue advantage? FIFA please take note!!!!!!

Remi-Erempagamo Meindinyo VAR only makes suggestions Incase the ref missed something, but after any review it is the in-field ref that makes the call.
@@cacahuetepistache7998 No kidding. She clearly had both feet off the line at the time the ball was struck. Now, I don't know when we started policing this so closely. In the past, it seemed a given that the goalkeepers were given a couple steps.
Did you watch the u20 WC, or any of this World Cup. The ref started enforcing the rule now, just because few ref still let it slide, doesn’t mean the other will.
The referee gave the retake without going up to the var screen to see for herself...
The VAR has no interest, it only multiplies the misinterpretations.

Ridiculous use of VAR on that 'keeper off the line' call. Ruined the match and stole the game - needs to be re-thought.

@@timothee621 True, and that's fine... but there is the spirit of the rule and then there is the letter of the law. If we all want football governed by the letter of the VAR law, then refs should be instructed - and we should be prepared - to review 98% of all penalty kicks for either a keeper moving early or a player entering the box early. I think you'd admit that movement by either the keeper or non-kick-taking player happens about that often. We should then expect that penalties be taken over, and over, and over, and over until nobody moves a muscle - which I personally think would be a detriment to the sport.
