I have a concept for this. In shop, you can tap an arrow button (for mobile) or press right or left arrow for pc. It scrolls you to another separated side where you csn buy items. You can change which one you will use and you can buy the radar in it for example for 50 custards.
I plan on implementing a tab in the shop menu to purchase various items, and they'll work the same way as hats do. You'll only be able to switch what item you're using in the menu.
I already played the update so here's a trash update recommendation, another comment said about being able to change them in-game or not so, how about terminals that are scattered around the map and they let you change your item in-game?

Yup! The disable night vision ability will be turned into a general disable item ability
