Vladislav Bardyug That true, to some degree, if by working you mean giving the previously established benefits, no it's not working. but it does give higher hyper-armor invincibility frames. so it works... to a very small degree, and not as we know it to have previously worked... basically it doesn't work. Some people have even found the code of poise in the game to simply be disabled, it's fully in the game, just not enabled... for some reason.
But again, hyper-armor isn't given by poise, I think. I guess hyper-armor is more of a weapon thing, so you can be naked or in full havel's and it won't matter for hyper-armor... Correct me if I'm wrong though.

However, if a weapon gives you hyper-armor and you have no poise what-so-ever you will not be given any hyper-armor at all, so it's worth sinking at least one point into poise.

FromSoft just hates strength builds. Havel, Smough, Fume Greatsword, and Large Club builds are only a few examples of how FromSoft likes to punish strength builds in PvP.

"Learn 2 meta" hurt my heart. I still go back and play DS2 for PvP, when you could actually use almost anything. The tracking on fast weapons and the removal of a working poise stat basically broke the idea of playing a lot of PvP in DS3 for me. Also I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who pauses to let people I invaded pop an Estus if they make a really stupid mistake or get chunked by a mob. This, besides being a good video has a really good message for the dark souls community, that it is a game and enjoying it is what matters, unless someone is being rude or actually cheating there is no reason to be upset or to be rude back, and that instead of adding to the legions of estocs and dark swords embrace the play style you like and find a way to make it work. I actually spent an hour in the first area of the game long after i was done with it so i could learn the parry time on the farron greatsword dagger and you know what it payed off and i parried an invader with it and it was more fun then using a dark sword.

Dogf ish The character just charge forward the enemy then swing the axe, though you stun-lock the enemy just by running to him/her, giving you the opportunity to swing the axe AND to complete the Combo.

+Nanoro_bot Poise does work but the only way it works is through hyper armor property. To trigger it revolves primarily around strength builds like Yhorn's machete or ultra greatswords. There are certain points after the initial swing you'll have hyper armor and you'll poise through the attack to stagger your opponent to then follow up and then punish them.

As wonderful and "better" as DkS3 is, it still can't quite recreate that "Zen Souls" I hold so dear (though I adore the hectic and wild 3v2v2v1s for the opposite reasons ^^). edit: Okay actually, there's one thing equally relaxing in the gaming world. Witcher 3 and just exploring the gigantic world that game had to offer. Reintroducing poise the way it was would void the advantages of about half of all the weapons. It would need a major overhaul if anything, but I prefer hyper amour and then choosing armour primarily for fashion. You can always go back to DS1 pvp if you want to deal with people backstab fishing to compensate for players with high poise.

As dumb as the poiseless estoc/dark sword meta is, I still can't believe people are this quick to say DS2's PvP was perfect. Does noone remember all the Havel Potters, Santier's spear pre-nerf or the buffed katanas and their phantom range? Or getting whacked from half way across the room because of how the netcode registered hits? Both are great games, but I don't think I'm nostalgic for any of that just yet.

elrichzann It was the best of the series without a doubt in terms of functionality and balancing, but it was by no means flawless. As Kevin Savitteri stated, lagstabs were still a problem, some broken hitboxes on weapons and some weapons still had moves that were broken. You couldn't revamp your points to change your build. Face-stabs. It used to have as many problems as Dark Souls 2 had, but they fixed them over time. So no, not flawless. Not perfect. But not bad.
As much as it's an unpopular opinion, I think Dark Souls 2 had the best PvP. It would've been nice if it happened in places other than the Iron Keep bridge, but at least literally everything was viable. You could even make a broken Ladle work if you wanted. I'm getting slightly bored with 3 right now, because the best weapon I've found is the whip, and I'm not sure it can even be countered. It does crap damage, but literally all you have to do is keep rolling away and snap them with the rolling R1. If you're half-decent at evasive rolling, it's completely free damage. Can't even be parried (which makes sense, but still). Also, the weapon art goes past shields, stunlocks people in light to medium armor, and catches people coming out of rolls almost every time. Kinda broken. And forget about fist weapons. My ninja build is ruined because the wolverine claws can't hit anything unless they're standing still and you're pretty much rubbing up against them already. Garbage damage, and pretty easy to parry, too.

Sean XxX Yeah, DS2 had some cool little animation cancels that you could use to combo as well. It was fun figuring those out and using them in sneaky ways against other people. Like when you charge the hadouken on the Bone Fist and cancel it with a backstep, then immediately fire it when they roll in anticipation. Or the Blacksteel katana, which got rid of half the windup on the power attack if you came out or a rolling R1, and made the timing line up almost perfectly with the duration of a medium roll. It was so cool to catch people off-guard when you hit them and they rolled backwards. Doesn't feel like there's any of that in 3. And speaking of katanas, HOLY HELL WHY ARE THEY ALL SO BLAND AND SAMEY. JUST WHY. They all have almost the exact same moveset. It's so dumb. Weapon arts are cool and fun, I think. I like the idea that every weapon has a powerful special move. Just wish they were slightly varied across weapon types. Like with the standard rapier, maybe instead of just giving it the Ricard's gigastab move, give it a flashy Zorro slash move like what Velka's had in DS1. Y'know, mix it up even across similar weapons.
Although I agree that ds2 had the most viable weapons, ADP and that terrible roll ruined it for me. The fights were so slow and the roll catches were worst than ds3. I mean seriously! if I decided to roll forward through an attack I couldn't dodge the next! Even with 105 agility. Then there was soul memory and the ridiculous nerfs. Overall, I think the best and worst PvP fights I've had were in ds1.

There's a bunch of powerful builds running around. Dex, quality, luck/hollow/bleed, and I made a really nasty pure faith buff build which kicks ass. The big problem IMO is INT is garbage and no type of spellcasting will ever be good in PvP. If you're a really good pyromancer you can at least do solid damage with your spells if you can aim them well, but it's still not good per se.
...all of this just makes me laugh. Strength Builds are killer strong with hyper armor being so great. Dex not as strong as past installments but good with luck. Casters are very viable if you know what your doing because you can one shot a lot of people, pyromancers are a little weak compared to most builds but good with practice same as mages. Faith probably hardest to roll with but by no means bad. And quality atm is amazingly powerful due to so many good quality weapons. Hybrid builds atm still not amazing except for weapon buff builds but that's to be expected
Zarxene The only way to do even reasonable damage with a caster is to be a glass cannon... And even with that you still need to surprise people because casting times on damaging spells are brutally long. Hyper armor is also a lot less of a big deal once you learn to just roll circles around them until you know they're out of stamina.
My sorcerer has a much greater success in pvp than my knight ever did *especially* against gank squads. I've killed multiple people and walked away unscathed, showered in tongues and embers as I walked to my throne of bones. Time Soul Stream correctly and you'll feel like you're in Dragon Ball Z.

+Luis Vega nothing in the game is op, there are always ways around "phantom range, buffs, bleed, parries,ect" it comes dowm to skill and understanding how to defuse those situations. the only reason youll be hit with phantom range and spam is to not make mistakes.

Err,take Solice in this. They can't git gud. Once a nerf happens their weapons will be trash. Me I just ended up making a lifesteal express build. It was made for helping people go thou levels but ended up turning pvp after the tenth time some edgelord and his ganking buddy attacked me. I must say,you learn how "honorable" meta players are when they losing then run to chug a flask. And yes, out of all my duels It always some weilding a tryhard weapon who breaks down and chuggs or gets their phantom buddies to attack you.
It's not a guard break, it's a kick. Also against non-greatshield the horse ring can do up to double stamina damage against most low to mid shields, meaning you can break guard if they are at ~50% stamina in most cases. An instant guard break that fast would be broken too. Dark Souls 2 can get away with instant breaking because it was slow with a long wind up, but having instant guard break on a fast kick? No way.
frobie54 i miss ds 2 guard break move .it was nice feature (requires trick/make panic oponent to make it succesfull.) .it was very usefull against heavy turtles. anyway .kick still can help in to stagger enemy,iam using it heavely in pve (no poise hurt kick aswell)

"Learn 2 meta" hurt my heart. I still go back and play DS2 for PvP, when you could actually use almost anything. The tracking on fast weapons and the removal of a working poise stat basically broke the idea of playing a lot of PvP in DS3 for me.
Also I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who pauses to let people I invaded pop an Estus if they make a really stupid mistake or get chunked by a mob. It's so awkward when they don't take the obvious gimme xD.

Everytime I see a Havel being staggered in this game I feel sad.
This, besides being a good video has a really good message for the dark souls community, that it is a game and enjoying it is what matters, unless someone is being rude or actually cheating there is no reason to be upset or to be rude back, and that instead of adding to the legions of estocs and dark swords embrace the play style you like and find a way to make it work. I actually spent an hour in the first area of the game long after i was done with it so i could learn the parry time on the farron greatsword dagger and you know what it payed off and i parried an invader with it and it was more fun then using a dark sword.

Dogf ish The character just charge forward the enemy then swing the axe, though you stun-lock the enemy just by running to him/her, giving you the opportunity to swing the axe AND to complete the Combo.

+Nanoro_bot Poise does work but the only way it works is through hyper armor property. To trigger it revolves primarily around strength builds like Yhorn's machete or ultra greatswords. There are certain points after the initial swing you'll have hyper armor and you'll poise through the attack to stagger your opponent to then follow up and then punish them.

Anyway, what I'm getting at is it would completely defeat the purpose of slow weapons/ weapons with hyper armour because many fast weapons can do just as much damage using considerably less stamina. Reintroducing poise the way it was would void the advantages of about half of all the weapons. It would need a major overhaul if anything, but I prefer hyper amour and then choosing armour primarily for fashion. You can always go back to DS1 pvp if you want to deal with people backstab fishing to compensate for players with high poise.

As Kevin Savitteri stated, lagstabs were still a problem, some broken hitboxes on weapons and some weapons still had moves that were broken. You couldn't revamp your points to change your build. Face-stabs. It used to have as many problems as Dark Souls 2 had, but they fixed them over time. So no, not flawless. Not perfect. But not bad.

As much as it's an unpopular opinion, I think Dark Souls 2 had the best PvP. It would've been nice if it happened in places other than the Iron Keep bridge, but at least literally everything was viable. You could even make a broken Ladle work if you wanted.
I'm getting slightly bored with 3 right now, because the best weapon I've found is the whip, and I'm not sure it can even be countered. It does crap damage, but literally all you have to do is keep rolling away and snap them with the rolling R1. If you're half-decent at evasive rolling, it's completely free damage. Can't even be parried (which makes sense, but still). Also, the weapon art goes past shields, stunlocks people in light to medium armor, and catches people coming out of rolls almost every time. Kinda broken.
And forget about fist weapons. My ninja build is ruined because the wolverine claws can't hit anything unless they're standing still and you're pretty much rubbing up against them already. Garbage damage, and pretty easy to parry, too.
Dark Souls 2 pvp Is the best. It is. It just is the best.
There was more to do in DKS2 PvP. DKS3 PvP is kind of bland.

Sean XxX Yeah, DS2 had some cool little animation cancels that you could use to combo as well. It was fun figuring those out and using them in sneaky ways against other people. Like when you charge the hadouken on the Bone Fist and cancel it with a backstep, then immediately fire it when they roll in anticipation. Or the Blacksteel katana, which got rid of half the windup on the power attack if you came out or a rolling R1, and made the timing line up almost perfectly with the duration of a medium roll. It was so cool to catch people off-guard when you hit them and they rolled backwards. Doesn't feel like there's any of that in 3.
And speaking of katanas, HOLY HELL WHY ARE THEY ALL SO BLAND AND SAMEY. JUST WHY. They all have almost the exact same moveset. It's so dumb.
Weapon arts are cool and fun, I think. I like the idea that every weapon has a powerful special move. Just wish they were slightly varied across weapon types. Like with the standard rapier, maybe instead of just giving it the Ricard's gigastab move, give it a flashy Zorro slash move like what Velka's had in DS1. Y'know, mix it up even across similar weapons.
Although I agree that ds2 had the most viable weapons, ADP and that terrible roll ruined it for me.
The fights were so slow and the roll catches were worst than ds3. I mean seriously! if I decided to roll forward through an attack I couldn't dodge the next! Even with 105 agility. Then there was soul memory and the ridiculous nerfs.
Overall, I think the best and worst PvP fights I've had were in ds1.

There's a bunch of powerful builds running around. Dex, quality, luck/hollow/bleed, and I made a really nasty pure faith buff build which kicks ass. The big problem IMO is INT is garbage and no type of spellcasting will ever be good in PvP. If you're a really good pyromancer you can at least do solid damage with your spells if you can aim them well, but it's still not good per se.
...all of this just makes me laugh. Strength Builds are killer strong with hyper armor being so great. Dex not as strong as past installments but good with luck. Casters are very viable if you know what your doing because you can one shot a lot of people, pyromancers are a little weak compared to most builds but good with practice same as mages. Faith probably hardest to roll with but by no means bad. And quality atm is amazingly powerful due to so many good quality weapons. Hybrid builds atm still not amazing except for weapon buff builds but that's to be expected
Zarxene The only way to do even reasonable damage with a caster is to be a glass cannon... And even with that you still need to surprise people because casting times on damaging spells are brutally long. Hyper armor is also a lot less of a big deal once you learn to just roll circles around them until you know they're out of stamina.
My sorcerer has a much greater success in pvp than my knight ever did *especially* against gank squads. I've killed multiple people and walked away unscathed, showered in tongues and embers as I walked to my throne of bones.
Time Soul Stream correctly and you'll feel like you're in Dragon Ball Z.

I've been playing Dark Souls since the beginning and I still don't know what the fuck the meta is.
It still blows my mind that people play this game without generating their own builds. It's like every new player looked up "best weapons and armor in DKS3" before playing it. Lose if you have to, but goddamn, play the game your own way. Make a fat roll build and feel like a Greek god when you win a match.

Most (Metataurds) use what is easy not what is strong. They want a quick win not a show.
Which is why they use melee weapons and alch and not spells and Mircales most of the time. They want to max there weapons and brag about pwning the noobs with there (PRO BUILDS) I won a fight club without resorting to meta builds with a thrall hat and raggity armor.

Even though I never used it, it was just something to count on when getting ganked. The Giants armour, though, were another thing.

Err,take Solice in this. They can't git gud. Once a nerf happens their weapons will be trash. Me I just ended up making a lifesteal express build. It was made for helping people go thou levels but ended up turning pvp after the tenth time some edgelord and his ganking buddy attacked me. I must say,you learn how "honorable" meta players are when they losing then run to chug a flask. And yes, out of all my duels It always some weilding a tryhard weapon who breaks down and chuggs or gets their phantom buddies to attack you.

It's not a guard break, it's a kick. Also against non-greatshield the horse ring can do up to double stamina damage against most low to mid shields, meaning you can break guard if they are at ~50% stamina in most cases. An instant guard break that fast would be broken too. Dark Souls 2 can get away with instant breaking because it was slow with a long wind up, but having instant guard break on a fast kick? No way.
frobie54 i miss ds 2 guard break move .it was nice feature (requires trick/make panic oponent to make it succesfull.) .it was very usefull against heavy turtles.
anyway .kick still can help in to stagger enemy,iam using it heavely in pve (no poise hurt kick aswell)
