How to kick like Damain Mckenzie:
Step 1: Look at the ball
Step 2: Slowly look up at the posts
Step 3: Slowly look back at the ball
Step 4: Slowly look back at the posts (now with a small smile on your face, like a predator at a playground)
Step 5: Slowly look back at the ball, still smiling
Step 6: Take a step back to actually kick the ball
Step 7: If you haven't run out of time, kick the ball
    Step 8: Miss
I know Fly-halfs have their kicking quirks, but man, I feel like Mckenzie needs to hurry up a bit there XD

Now with this game behind them they can look on to build on top of this.

In the end, I think England will leave the happier side even though they lost, no one expected England to salvage a one point loss in New Zealand and in my opinion that is a big achievement. However Razor’s team has only been together for 10 days and England had basically a warmup match and have had Steve Borthwick for ages and NZ will get better in a week so I don’t think England will draw the series. Also the bench won the game for NZ, they had so much experience on that bench and throughout the game dominated the scrum, but their line out was ok. So in summary England has a positive to take away, but Razor’s team will grow and will win the series for NZ.

    • @TwoCentsRugby

Yeah I think this one went much in a way it was predicted - with the ABs indeed having some rust, and England almost doing enough. If England's scrum improves next week they'll be in a better position for sure, but likewise the ABs will be looking to improve their lineout

This is the exact reason the rush D is working for NH sides. They get there in less than a second - because they don't start from behind the hind-most foot. It actually ruins the game because attacking teams cant make running backline moves. Time for NH Refs and officials to get real about the constant off side play of NH teams.

At around the 60th minute, you can see babyface then resets his left foot when the ABs again went for the hit. Best analysis I’ve heard of this game. You picked the key point in the game where BB came on and they changed their strategy to keeping Eng out of scoring territory and putting them under penalty pressure in their own half. It worked. Everyone else is talking about getting it wide, but against the Northern teams this comes after you get territory and ball pressure, not before. Razor has just named an essentially unchanged side with Christie promoted to starting with TJ out. Perhaps they think the same gameplan will work better after another week of training? Or will we see that box kick from the base of the scrum employed form the start to nullify the use of the rush defence?

Very far from a classic match, but a win is a win. Goalkicking was terrible from both teams. England played their now signature aggressive defense and sporadic attack. Contebt to boot the ball away and tackle themselves to a standstill, they showed so little invention it became debatable whether they even wanted to score any tries. Razor's lack of international experience showed through all game: the ABs played like a Super Rugby team, with naive tactics in possession, a scrappy lineout, and were often disorganized on defence. They went wide-to-wide repeadtedly, with little variation or structure and seldom made any real progress, resorting to hopeful punts in the face of England's rush defence. They were skittish in possession and coughed up an amazing number of handling errors. Luckily England seemed content to punt it back to them more often than not. Bright spots for NZ included a strong scrum, and the individual work of Reece, Telea and Jordie Barrett. Perofeta ran some cute lines but he has no tactical brain. D-Mac had a very average day at the office, pretty much all round. All in all, its a first up victory for the new coach but let's be honest: if this was Fozzie's first game post-World Cup, the comments would be screaming for his head on a stick.

    • @davidkrause2537
      @davidkrause2537 3 дня назад

Agreed. The organization, and some of the strategy and tactics were a bit iffy - though credit to England as their aggressive play didn't give NZ an easy ride. Will be curious how the coaches and team leaders respond with a week to analyse and prepare. We don't have the measure of the new coaching group yet - though Ryan has obviously proved himself as an assistant at the international level. I maintain that NZ's challenge is primarily structural (not Ian Foster or any other coach), with their leadership mishandling the SA relationship, giving them an easy out, and depriving young NZ players regular challenges vs the South Africans (or other comparable opponents).

In my opinion there is a couple ways to play against rush defence.
      1. Go through it - be direct off 9 short passes and direct and pick and go’s
      2. Box kick the shit out of the ball . Literally play no rugby give the opposition nothing to hit , extremely effective but most people would say absolute boring rugby.
      3. Swing side to side , cross kicks galore, go side to side and take the opportunity to stretch them. The bulls implemented this tactic against Jaques nienaber Leinster rush d and it really really troubled them and won the Bulls the game.
