Great video! How things have changed! Little bit of history for you. I joined King’s in 1988 , well before it merged with Guy’s & St Thomas’. ‘Back in the day’ the intake at King’s was 110. At the time, Imperial didn’t exist as a medical school - it was a world class college for other subjects e.g .engineering. The two that merged with Imperial college to become what it is today were St Mary’s medical school and Charing Cross & Westminster medical school. The latter was also a result of a previous merger of two. When I applied there were 9 medical schools in London. The 1st 2 years at King’s were at the Strand campus and last 3 at KCH. Intercalated BSc was optional but I think also by invitation. At the time, all med schools had the ‘traditional’ course - 2 years preclinical and then 3 years clinical. We did our pathology final exam at the end of year 3. Learning pathology throughout the first clinical year helped a lot with understanding what was going on with patients on the wards. So I do think it worked well. There was talk of integration of preclinical and clinical when I was in my final year but I didn’t see it. I guess you get used to whichever course you do. Reflecting back, I still enjoy medicine and I’m not burnt out! And I wish you all the best in your careers!
You seem to know a lot about the history of these medical schools!! Things have changed so much since then. Only 9 med schools is so small though! I personally think integrated learning is much better but Imperial only introduced it more recently I think. Glad you still love medicine, I wanna be like that haha, thank you!
Did your panel interview have academic questions? the interview this yr wasnt based on academic knowledge at all (not leaking anything bc the topics are on Imperials website) also big up Kenji, saw his story a while ago its acc mad
Yh bro crazy haha . Nope, I don't remember any academic questions, they were mostly about my work experience, personal statement and general medicine stuff
Big thanks to Kenji for joining me on this one! It's a bit of a long one but definitely worth it!
