Every week I’m interviewing fascinating people in our community, nation and around the world.
Porter Ellett is the assistant running backs coach for the Kansas City Chiefs. He spent three seasons as an offensive quality control coach after serving three seasons as the senior assistant to the head coach.
He has helped the team win three Super Bowls, is married and has three children.
When Porter was four, he was in an accident that resulted in his right arm being amputated.
Porter was recently in eastern Idaho to speak at some DARE graduations in Jefferson County and I had the chance to chat with him (and try on his Super Bowl rings!). Here’s what I asked:
You’re Andy Reid’s right hand man - but you don’t have a right arm. Can you tell us what happened and what you’ve learned only having one arm?
How did you get your job at the Kansas City Chiefs?
What is one of the main things you’ve learned coaching football?
What is your favorite thing about being a dad?
Football can be stressful and hard. How have you handled challenging and hard times during your life?
You’re here in potato country. What is your favorite way to have a potato?
What is your dream job?
BONUS QUESTIONS
What is your favorite junk food?
Travis Kelse’s girlfriend has apparently been a pretty big deal this season. Have you met Taylor and what’s your favorite Taylor song?
Can you share a piece of advice that might help me in my life?
