I have the 2.0 version of the Nilson Works 1/60 Astray. The one in this video is so much better, and looks much closer to the line art of the Astray. It's such a shame the 1.0's are nearly impossible to find now! They really were something special!
@VictorHernandez-oq2yn the main thing to me is that the head and V-fin are different. There's no fan vents or places to put the green colored bits either. There's no clear orange runners in this kit. The arms have also changed, so they don't look quite like the Astray in this video. The new one comes with a flight pack and a base, but it doesn't come with the extra hilt designs for its blades.
I've never seen this technique before - airbrush the pre-shading and then instead of doing colour with the airbrush you just use the spray cans. I'll have to give this a go. Great work dude.
Zup bro! I’ve never painted a model, yet, but I’m working on it, just build my first gundam a few weeks ago, waiting for my tools and paint order, so yeah! I take from this video that using airbrush for the pre shading then cans for the color it save a lot time dealing with the airbrush itself. I have an airbrush kit, but still very insecure on how to use it (I’m scare lol)anyways this video it’s awesome thanks bro!
Would this make a good First Gundam to build? If its fun and fairly easy? Ive been doing models for about 20 years, so I feel pretty confident and placed my first order with Evans designs so thank you for the hook up on the LED kits and seller! They are awesome!
A few years ago, I first built my PG astray thinking, "it looks okay, but the MG still looks better for me. . I hope bandai could give us a PG Astray 2.0 with MG proportions.." This thing wasnt exactly the kit I hoped for but it's sure gonna replace the old one on my shelf.
I just got the 2019 version of this kit which comes with a flight pack, but it does not come with the waterslide decals included in the original version. Any chance you could tell me a bit about the ones that came with yours? Were they specially made for the Nillson Works kit? Anyone know where I can buy some? I have been Googling for hours and cannot find them for sale on their own. :(
Julius Adriano I felt the same way in the beginning but, once you build one you get to appreciate its design and aesthetics. It’s better than a lot of the kits out there in my opinion. My advice to you will be get the Hi-Rez model, and the red frame dragon (P Bandai) , those 2 made me fall in love with the red frame, it’s truly an amazing Gundam.
As someone that has built the Bandai version of this kit, I can honestly say I have built much more complicated MG's. This thing is basically just a 1/60 MG kit IMHO.
Hey, so... since there are 3 colors for the inner frame, does that mean you could technically make 3 astray inner frames? Or is it missing parts for joins ant that jazz?
Nice video and build! It’s nicely build. But I got several questions. After painting and assemble back the kit(not just this but all gunpla build), does the part get thick a lot and need to enlarge the holes or sand down the peg? Or does there any steps need to be done before painting and making it snap back easier. Would love to see you reply and also if there can be a tutorial video teaching folks to do custom painting is nice too! Cheers and keep the video up.
Sure thing. When it came to building this particular kit there was an extensive amount of modifications that need done. For example washing the parts to get rid of the oily residue that are on all the pieces. As well as an extensive amount of drilling holes so I can funnel the LED lighting and wiring through the selected pieces. And when it comes to painting and modifying entry points for connecting pieces, that's something that doesn't necessarily need to be seen on video unless the parts are poor quality. In judging from this manufacturer they were on point. If there were pieces there were either damaged or weren't properly molded correctly they make sure they had it additional pieces there for the customer to work with. But I have been getting a lot of requests when it comes to doing proper LED lighting tutorials as well as painting methods. That will be happening this some time this year. But I don't want to build a kit for the sake of making a video because it's like the hottest new kit out there and I want to get those RUclips views and likes so I can be relevant in the RUclips algorithm.... it's quite the opposite. 😁🧡
How many sets of hands does it have? I plan to do the same with my MG Astrays, where I glued the hands in a fixed grip position so there is a separate set for holding weapons and a separate one for movable and flexible ones.
Dang that's a great question. If the kit super big like a PG millennium Falcon or a 1/20 Macross kit it doesn't really matter because at the end you're going to end up using both mediums.
Jessi Maldonado no it's just the bandai plastic makes it a tough tsk for the paint to stick to it so it can settle correctly so you need primer to help the paint stick to the plastic
Nice kit.. Will it still look cool if I don't paint it? I just got into the hobby and painting something I don't think I want to get into.. At least not yet.. And how to order that kit please.. Thanks in advanced..
Hello, In my opinion it should look good even with out the paint. It gives you so many options for color and where to change them up as well as water slides that i think it looks good.(Not much of a scale i know but thought i'd put it out there) You can pick this up at Gundam Model Center (www.gundammodelcenter.com/gundam-central-nillsonwork-red-astray-pg-model-kit Right now they have the kit on Pre order for more kits to come in). They did come out with a newer version that is in all gray called the ghost version (www.gundammodelcenter.com/nillson-red-astray-frame-pg-ghost-ver-gundam-centrall Its out of stock right now but it can change between now and Feb 10th ) and you get more with that version of the kit as well as some detail changes. They change the head design and some other parts here and there on it. It comes with 4 swords and the dragon flight pack and the shield + gun as opposed to the normal version with just 2 swords and the shield + gun . Its also $10 usd cheaper than the one shown in the video. If you have any other questions i will try my best to answer them thank you and have a nice day!
The kit doesn't come with LED. As for the difficulty level to install the light....with practice It does get easier. But If Its your first Its going to very difficult.
Its just a 1/60 mg. I was hoping for a pg with mg proportion. The pg looks stubby and its legs look short. Its torso is too stocky. But i love the working mechanisms in it. All the moving parts. I guess im just gonna wait till i get the real mobile suit in heaven.
Um.. Quality of plastic is the same.. But the panel lines are more prominent, much more runners, more detailed, worth the price imo. (pretty expensive)

another great build video!

Awesome video! Love the flow throughout the whole thing. Keep up the good work!
Cool this thing looks epic

So in essence if you wanted to resin cast all the white parts you could in eventuality wise get two Kits out of this one box that's kind of dope

It's hard to choose from swole or slim astray
Slim is nice but I prefer the original astray
That’s what I’ve been saying for a long time, official version has all the wrong proportions, looks way too fat and chunky

nice works

No, its only some of the inner frame, like hand and foot, you only get 1 body inner frame.
Its 4 years late but hope you know this.
How did you paint the pre assembled fingers? Did u paint it at all?
Can I Ask, what kind/typr of paint did you use for the black chest armour part
cost slightly less than US$100 here in Singapore or around there from some seller who import direct from china.
hey i have a question when you bought this nilson product did it have the led kit or you you have to buy it separate ?
This kit is just the 1/60 master grade
does it include water-slide decals or you just buy it?

1 set of hands.
@@OtakuBuilder Thanks! I'll think of something else to do with the hands then unless the weapons stay in place anyway despite changing poses. Do they?

Is the bear guy included?
Bro im wondering why did you chose to spray from the can wherein you had an AB and could have decanted from the cans? Cheers bro
You dont need to clean the AB and it can cover more area in less time.
So uhm does the lead units comes in the package with the kit already? Or you just did it yourself for modifications?
Does this kit come with pilot cockpit or the teddy cockpit
The pilot Is the teddy :-)
What would you say is easier spraying with the can or using the airbrush ?

do you have a pdf manual for this? mine came without a manual
Would you consider getting the Nillsons Works Deactive mode Astray with Flight pack? Sure comes with a helluvalot more stuff in the kit than this.
Probably not. I've build 3 perfect grade astray model kits. I think I'm done LOL
Hi bro im planning to buy this
what is your experience while building this
How many cans of reds you use to finish this project?
show us the link where you bought those LED
can I get the colors used on the chest part thanks : ]
hello sir is this as big as bandais pg arf?
What's the use of Surface Primer? Is it like top coat or is it something else?
Squidward Tennisballs helps paint adhere to the plastic

Does it come with the leds and how difficult are they to put in?

This kit is made by Nilson. Sengoku Astray was built by Nills Nielson. Coincidence?
...
Probably.
What is the thing you put after the decals on?
This is a softening agent for slidemarks(decals). It has the effect of closely adhering slidemarks to curved surfaces.
