You're going to need to change some things when you adapt a book to live action. I care about making a good work of art, that's true to the philosophy, than a perfect scene to scene adaptation.
Recently when I hear about the adaptation of some great book I just think "How are they going to ruin it now?" I can only be a pessomist. But hearing that the DailyWire will be behind the project genuinely makes me excited again to hear about a new adaptation!
Unfortunately, what makes for an excellent book does not necessarily translate to the screen. There will have to be some changes just to make it an enjoyable experience.
A 3 hour speech? Just because you might agree with the content of a book doesn’t mean it’s a well written story, stick to the story, use speeches when appropriate but if it will destroy the pacing and bog down the storyline, then to the chopping block it goes.
The dialogue is 60hrs long. So it’s literally perfect for a series and it’ll keep the meat. The plot isn’t what is important. It’s the interactions between all the characters and the dialogue!
I would love to see them adapt it well, but I'm not really sure they'll be able to do the book justice. It's not a conservative work and it's difficult for people in our culture today to actually understand Atlas Shrugged in its full meaning and depth. I know Ben, at least, thinks Atlas is a good guide to life in the economic realm, but not in social relationships. He thinks that "the family is the basic unit of society," and the only alternative to this is leftist whim-worship. Anyone who thinks that, frankly, is not equipped to understand the message of Atlas. By Ben's standard, Hank Rearden makes evil decisions at the end of the novel, not good ones.
Now if you could somehow get the Rights for a CS Lewis book, like perhaps the "Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" or one of his other books, that would be awesome. I'd love to see a good fantasy series done by people that understand fantasy isn't about the special effects but about deeper things, like about human nature, morality and spirituality.
I think Netflix unfortunately got it. Amazon has the rights currently for partial portions of the second age of Tolkien's mythology not the full rights. These two should be on the top of the list of priorities for the company if possible.
@Jason Henry, I just rewatched the Peter Jackson trilogy, and agree that it shouldn’t be touched for. And of course Amazon bastardized Tolkien, and Robert Jordan for that matter. But a Hobbit film done by someone who doesn’t need to make it into three movies and follows the book as closely as a screenplay will allow would be welcome.
Fantastic! After reading the classic, I then watched the three part movie series... They did a nice job on such a limited budget. I can only imagine the quality of what Dailywire will do with it. Again...Fantastic news!
Haven`t read them but I`m kind of tired of England medieval stories to be honest. @@cowboybeboop9420 If it adds to the interest- the whole series starts in Atlantis and goes from there to Merlin then Arthur. The blend of action, Christianity and the legend are brilliant

Im so pumped for this. I was excited a few years ago when they adapted it into a trilogy but they drastically dropped off in quality with each part. I cant wait for the dailywire guys to make a real go of it with a series.!!!!
Yes, the first part was really good and my husband and I both really liked the actress that portrayed Dagny. The final actress looked more like Dagny as she was described in the book--i.e. very slim--but the first Dagny was more believable because she had more force to her. I don't know if that was because she was a larger woman (I don't mean fat, I just mean she wasn't a bean pole), or that was just her presence. But she had a kick-ass-and-take-names quality to her that was the essence of the character, even if she wasn't the exact description. (I don't even remember the one who played Part II.) I also liked that they did tweak a few things to make it feel like current times. High gas prices were never mentioned in the book, but at one point during Part I, Dagny was filling up with some really expensive gas while the store owner was sitting there watching her while holding a shotgun. That was filmed when we were having the first wave of highest-ever gas prices after Katrina and around the time of the Great Recession starting. Every time I read the re-book--which is every few years or so--something else has happened in our society that is mentioned in the book. The fact that we have food stuck, possibly rotting, while our barges can't move it on the Mississippi reminds me of the rail lines failing the farmers in Nebraska right before the collapse. And of course this "men can be biological women" nonsense is just like her villains who deny reality.
Concerning an "Atlas Shrugged" TV series, although it might seem controversial I think it would be best to do the series in CGI. This would give The Creative Team the ability to make a series that matches the book visually, since I think CGI has reached the point where it isn't a matter of "what can we do" but "what do we choose to do." One of the things that I saw as a negative in the movies was that none of the characters (except for Dagny and Hank) were close to the way they were described in the book. For the human characters they could use slightly stylized CGI humans (like in the second "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" series where the characters look natural in the environment and not cartoony). This would avoid the Uncanny Valley Issue, and would give us characters that look right.
But the Most Important Question is: How do faithfully adapt this Book as a Major Miniseries and faithfully keep the Major Monologues and themes intact?
Every time I re-read it, a new turn of events parallels something in the book. You can see us walking down that road to self-destruction that she shows in the book.
@@leonardwei3914 That maybe that is how they got it. Atlas Shrugged in 3 seasons... That would be awesome!
I'm intrigued and looking forward to this.
Well I guess I need to read the book now!
They should acquire the rights for War and Peace. The book that I find it interesting but only made it half way through because its so freakin long and I have to dedicate a time to read it. Lol
I almost jumped out of my chair and cheered for this. Honestly, tears of joy. This will be world changing, as the book was life changing for me.
