  • My old Makita sander broke last week, cable had frayed, switch also failed and the clamps were struggling to hold in the paper so i bought a replacement.
Makita BO3710 1/3 Sheet Sander Works well enough, sanded some blocks and a few plaques that i had lying around and it finished them off nicely. Clamping system for holding the paper seem ok, time will tell. 240v uk version, probably a 110v version out there for overseas or site use.
Paid £53 from ebay delivered, Screwfix have it in for £49.99, well worth the money, im not sure but i think the last one lasted some 10 odd years of semi pro use.

You need the plate to punch holes for dust collection to the bag or the dust will quickly clog the paper. No reduction in efficiency with tiny holes in the paper.

Going to buy this sander soon, mainly because out of Bosch, Metabo, Makita aka the 3 brands id buy a Sander from, the B03710 is the cheapest and most quiet atleast on the spec sheets the Makita comes out on top with the least measured decibels which is really good since I hate loud sanders ist just such an unpleasant noise to be around when you are working.
Also Makita machines are consistently well made and repair friendly, you can buy all the parts for them.
The Metabo doesnt come with a hole punch stencil aswell which is important to me since I also like to use sandpaper rolls but I mainly sand with dust extraction and having the holes in the sandpaper improves dust extraction a lot.
Not going to have any issues with the switch or the cord on a Makita machine they mainly use Omron Switches and Patelec H07 leads.
Meanwhile ive heard that Metabo Sanders like to go trough switches a fair bit.
Everything else is really just the same inside when you take a Makita, Bosch and Metabo Sander apart the internals are very similar. Electric motor on top, then cooling fan, then dust extraction blower wheel thats cast aluminium so it also works as a flywheel and counterweight for the base plate at the botton that has an offset ball bearing to produce the vibration/orbit action.
Not a lot to these Sanders.

You should get some good service out of that one. Was a good unboxing and review video - liked the close ups you did showing various facets of the tool. Yes I think with you working mostly outdoors the dust extraction won't be a much needed feature so we can wait on some other RUclipsr to review that aspect. Thanks there Bongo.

This one vs Random Orbital Sander, which one do you suggest for prepping the wood furniture and doors for repainting and restaining. Thanks

Can't go wrong with Makita mate, you stray away from them from time to time (normally cause of funds) but always go back. ATB Moose

Ive had Bosch tools in the past, none have survived to now. Personally I would stick with Makita when it needs replacing.

@@thepoultrypeople How about Dewalt DWE6421 Random Orbital vs Makita BO3710? which is better for reliability, ease of use and for great finishes ? Thanks again. Useful video.

Sorry Johnny, i have zero experience with the Dewalt unit, I will be looking at the makita MT version of the random orbital soon though.
