Robert Strauss died a very sad death at age 61. He had a series of electroshock treatments for severe depression, followed by two strokes, the last of which led to his death He had been nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his part in Stalag 17
Thank you for your comment. Mr late great Mr Strauss was an underrated actor who was equally good in both comedic & dramati roles. Left us much too soon. :-(
I enjoyed watching this very much. I had heard of this groundbreaking 50's TV drama over the years but this is the first episode I've seen. Well written & well cast. Thank you very much for uploading for us to enjoy. CHEERS !! :-)
Robert Strauss, "Animal" from "Stalag 17" and about a thousand other character roles. Good to see him in such a sensitive role. Like so many character actors, he was capable of so much more than he was often given.
So well said & so well put ! My feelings exactly ! This is the first time I've seen the late great Mr Strauss in such a low key sensitive role. He gives a superb performance. He usually played dim witted tough guys or nogoodniks. Thank you so much for sharing !
This episode brought back memories of my time in private pediatric practice from 1995-2015. By that time we didn’t do house calls but nights on call could still be grueling. I’m retired from clinical practice and doing new drug review for FDA now, but I wouldn’t trade my experience caring for children for anything.
Blame insurance companies they inflated the costs to the point that we could no way afford a home visit from any dr..I can vaguely remember my Dr did make a few house call when we wear kids but it wasn't for long that hasn't happenned since I was 3 years old I'm 55 now I must be one of the last to get and to even see in real life a home Dr visit...sad but the blame is squarely on ins companies they tend to ruin and over inflate prices....we lost more than we ever gained from say 1956 to now milk man cleaners grocery store pea pod maybe but far from what home delmused to ne we did t even have to get out of th car when we needed ga try that today i hear its law in jersey that an attendant still pump your gas well at least one stat retained one of the last vestiges of a better time ànd era.....face it..it sucks now
Doctors made house calls in the old days because nobody had a car. In some communities it was only the doctors, lawyers, and police who had cars. Then there's the medical school costs, which the students take out loans to pay for, and they're stuck paying the loans for the next 20 years. Not to mention the malpractice insurance they have to pay. The doctor now has to see as many patients as he/she can in order to break even, and that leads to sloppy work. The insurance company might only reimburse $40 per patient. It's one of the reasons that some doctors are more apt to prescribe painkillers. Addicts will go to the doctor in droves just to get prescriptions for drugs.

I met Mr. Strauss in the Stage Deli in N.Y.C. in 1966-ish. He seemed very nice chatted briefly with my mother.

I love these! Keep 'em coming
This is on Vpod TV. Most of the episodes are so depressing.
Because reality isn't all sweetness and light. Not every story on "MEDIC" had a "happy ending".
So sad that the family doctor is a dying breed. Now it's all specialists and ppos and medicaid/Medicare. Such a shame.

This was the first doctor TV show
James Moser later went on to create and produce "BEN CASEY".

It's weird to see Jewish characters portrayed on TV from this era.
Is it?
I hardly even noticed. You're projecting, my friend.
