- Every summer, the Lord of the Universe, Jagannath, His brother, Balarama, and sister, Subhadra, are brought out of the Temple to the streets to bless everyone with Their loving large-eyed glances.
This festival dates back thousands of years originating in Puri, India, where it still takes place and is attended by millions of devotees annually.
The smiling Lord Jagannath and His siblings ride on huge beautifully decorated wooden chariots, pulled by the hands of Their devotees in a grand procession in the streets of most major cities in the world.
Puri's Rath Yatra is a symbol of unity, brotherhood, and peace. Thousands of devotees travel from all over the country to participate in this yatra and get good fortune by pulling the Lord's chariot. It is stated that anyone who takes part in the Rath Yatra would be blessed with pleasure and riches.
What is the reason behind the Jagannath Rath Yatra?
It is believed that the festival started when the sister of Lord Jagannath (Subhadra) expressed her desire to visit Puri (Odisha's State). In order to fulfil Subhadra's wish, Lord Jagannath along with Lord Balabhadra and Subhadra left for Puri in a chariot.
Which God is Worshipped in Rath Yatra?
Rath Yatra or Jatra is the celebration of the Lord Jagannath, who is believed to be the Lord of Universe's journey towards his aunt's house.
Why is Jagannath eyes so big?
Because of the spiritual ecstasy Krishna's eyes became too big and hands and legs got absorbed in his body. This form of Krishna is called Jagannath. Because of the spiritual ecstasy Krishna's eyes became too big and hands and legs got absorbed in his body.
