- A fantastic day of Springer fishing on the new boat. We landed one Big keeper and released a wild fish. This was a guided education trip with two very experienced fishermen. Fishing with David Pyle.
Spring chinook season doesn’t officially start until David Pyle posts a video. 😂 Great job David, looked like a great day.
It started without me as usual but I have some catching up to do. Good to hear from you, Nic.
lol yup David Pyle posted a RUclips video!...now Im getting my boat ready!..great process David
Thank you for the video! Great to see another post from you !
Thank you for watching.
Great job guys!!
Thank you, Shan. Hope to see you out there soon.
Very nice! Beautiful fish!
Thank you very much!
What a great day! Nice work fellas!.
Thanks 👍
Those were beautiful fish. Nicely done!
Thanks 👍
Nice video! Great job! And thanks for the specs on lures, bait, depth, etc. Very informative. Why is it important to have such a long leader?
In dirty water we use shorter leaders, in clear water we make them longer. The idea is to bring fish in with the flasher but make sure that the salmon can see the bait. Longer leader seems to reduce the distraction of the flasher or at least that was the theory until 360 flashers arrived on the scene. With 360 flashers we use leaders sometimes as short as 18 inches. Doesn't seem to distract salmon.
Nice big Springer David! If you haven't already you ought to show us your new boat and it's awesome features etc.! 😁 Btw, you mentioned at the end you were fishing off the bottom 15 feet is that correct? And looks like you caught one on each type of bait anchovie and cut herring, cool.
Thanks for the idea!
Nice job Dave 👍🏻🤙🏻
Thank you, Shinya.
Nice work David! Glad you got in to a couple. It was Good seeing you out there Saturday. That’s a nice new boat you got!
Thank you, Daniel.
Great work David! New boat looks great on the water!
Thank you, Riley. I'm just about dialed in on my new boat. It's a nice upgrade.
Nicely done!
Thanks!
Good job !!!!
Thanks!
That first fish was a toad!!! Great work fellas
You're right, that was a healthy one!
Congrats on the fish with the new boat David!!!
Thank you, Andy. Good luck to you and Mike.
Its time to go fishing when David Pyle posts a video! What a beauty springer! Are you spinning the anchovies with a helmet?
I rarely use helmets. I rig the first hook through the eye and bury it near the tail. The top hook goes through the chin and comes out of the forehead. Just a slight bend.
@@DavidPyle Nice setup, thanks for the tips!
Holy Moley, Joebus, you actually looked like a real fishermen! 💕
He did a great job hooking, fighting, and landing. I'd call that a real fisherman.
@@DavidPyle I’m obligated to give my younger brother a hard time, otherwise he’d be disappointed.
Both chromers way to go guys! That first one is a tank! Looking like a good push of early fish, at least on this day. Nice video as always! Steve
Thank you, Steve. We were in the right place at the right time.
Another great viedo 👍... I was wondering about trolling speed, what speed should I be trolling at against current and then with the current. Thanks
I give the speed at the end of the video. SOG = speed over ground
In this area we troll less than 1 MPH against the current. I was going .75 MPH for the first fish (against the current). The second fish we were going with the current at about 2 MPH. Wind and current will obviously change how fast we troll with the current. The idea is to troll as slow as possible in this cold water.
Thanks for your answer. Just bought a new boat and I'm trying to figure all this out. New to boat fishing
Those hand takedowns are difficult to understand in the moment. Caught my first ever springer last year that same way, checking bottom and next thing you know the bottom started tugging back. Well done David and crew. I'll have to book a trip soon to see that new ride 😎
I had prepared Don and Joe before we started. My instructions were to pretend you're a rod holder. They were flawless and patiently managed both fish. The captain on the other hand grabbed the rod too quick and made a really risky net job on the first fish.
@@DavidPyle Can’t complain too much with two to the net and a beaut in the box. I’m sure the skipper was just getting used to his new surroundings.
Great content as always. On the 2nd fish why did you guys decide to turn the boat around vs continue going straight? Great looking springers.
We were heading downstream when we hooked up and there was a big snag under the bridge. I wanted to point the nose of my boat upstream so I could keep us from drifting into the snag while fighting the fish. I wouldn't make an aggressive throttle move like that in most circumstances but the fish had peeled off lots of line so I wasn't dragging the fish. Great question by the way.
David, how do you like the clarus rods for trolling? Do you know size and weight?
I've been using them for at least 10 years. They're an inexpensive rod that has performed flawless and I just bought two more a month ago. 10.5, 15-40, moderate on the side rods and 9.5, 15-30, moderate on the back.
Nicely done🤑🤑🤑
Thank you. I had a good crew on board.
what brand of boat did you buy?
I bought another Duckworth. Was searching for a North River because they seem to produce more boats but was lucky to find another Pacific Navigator (215 series). 21'6" hull that measures 23'8" with the offshore and a 102" beam.
How safe is it to consume chinook from the Willamette?
These fish spend most of their life in the ocean so you should ask if fish in the ocean are safe to eat.
How does the expression go? A takedown in the hand is worth two in the rod holder? 😂 Nice fish
Very clever. Lucky for us the fish hooked up nicely.
