Everyone loves Paul Edgecomb and John Coffey, and they are awesome...but, tbh, my favorite GM character is Brutal - he's a gem! Everyone needs a best friend like him.
"We each owe a death - there are no exceptions - but, oh God, sometimes the Green Mile seems so long." Fun Fact: Originally set in 1932, the timeframe was bumped to 1935 so that the movie Top Hat (1935) could be featured. Jock Strap Incident Fact: Michael Clarke Duncan was uncomfortable with having to grab Tom Hanks' crotch for the scene where John cures Paul's urinary infection. Hanks left the set and came back to do the scene; Duncan grabbed Hanks' crotch and was shocked to discover that he had put an empty water bottle in his trousers. After that, Duncan felt more comfortable with the scene. Measuring Up Fact: In reality, Michael Clarke Duncan was of a similar height to his co-star David Morse, and was a couple of inches shorter than James Cromwell. Amongst other things, creative camera angles were used to create the illusion that Duncan, as John Coffey, towered over the prison staff, even "Brutal" Howell and Warden Moores. For one scene where Paul, Coffey and Brutal were in the same shot, Michael Clark Duncan was standing on a plank, David Morse stood on the ground, and Tom Hanks was standing in a trench dug into the ground just for that purpose.
Lifespan of a mouse in captivity at most is 3 years. Mr. Jangles is 64 years old so Paul can expect to live to be over a thousand years old. Horrifying 😭
I love that Melinda gave him that medallion after John healed her. - St. Christopher is a patron saint... he offered protection to travelers and against sudden death, many churches placed images or statues of him, usually opposite the south door, so he could be easily seen. He is usually depicted as a giant, with a child on his shoulder and a sheperd's staff in one hand. Fits John Coffey.
The reason coffey got framed for the murders is because he found the little girls after that other guy had raped and murdered them, and he tried to help the little girls with his magic. It was too late for them, though. And then the cops found him crying with the little girls bodies. Thats why he told the cops he couldn't help it. He meant he couldn't save them.
No, not always: 'Misery', 'Shawshank Redemption' & 'Stand By Me' don't have any paranormal or supernatural elements to them. Most would classify them as Thrillers, but he's certainly earned his title of the 'King of Horror' 💜 -x-
The reason why there are people at an execution, is that they are there as witnesses to ensure that the sentence given by a court Judge, is carried out. It happens today in the USA, where executions are still carried out, via injections. Of course, family members are allowed to witness the execution as well. BTW, the 'Depression years' were from 1929 - 1941, and this shows that most houses didn't have bathrooms in the house ... the 'toilet' was the outhouse in the back yards and most washed out of a basin. Yes, there were baths, but it took awhile to fill those tubs with water as most had water pumps outside. If they had water pumps in the house, the water still had to be boiled to heat up the water. That is why Tom Hanks (Paul) had to go outside to the 'toilet'. Also, many houses had containers in their rooms so that if they had to go to the 'toilet' in the middle of the night or in winter, they could do their business and then pour it in the outhouses.
I feel like this movie is showing both side of the spectrum: good and evil. Dell is an in-between and I found him to be a good subject of nature versus nurture. When Dell tells Paul he wished he met them (Paul and his group) before I thought that should he had met good people before, he most probably not be in death row. I was sad for him.
Great reaction. Friend, what are you waiting for to react to "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis? You can not stop staring at her! Greetings from Tandil, Argentina! 💪🇦🇷
Mice usually live about 2 years. Mr. Jingles was 64 years old. I figured that out because edgecomb was 44 at the time and he was 108 at the end of the movie. That was 64 years
Actually young man I am quite impressed with your analytical skills. Most people I know including myself had to rewatch this movie to 'get' its meaning. Just a note. You don't understand because you're young but once you've seen enough of mankind 's inhumanity to man ,and there's no telling how much John Coffey had seen and how much he felt it. The thought of dying was a relief to him. That reaction of yours earned you a new sub.❤😊😊
In the book, we are told that Del’s crime was that he raped a young girl, then set a fire in an attempt to cover his trail which killed a bunch more people. I don’t think John was able to actually take away Del’s pain. I think it was more that he was feeling il along with him.
Arlen Bitterbuck ended up in there for killing someone at a Bar fight over a pair of Shoes, Del ended up in there for trying to cover up a murder in a burning building !
Arlen Bitterbuck: killied a man in a fight over a pair of boots Del was on death row for raping and killing a young girl, then trying to cover up his crime by burning her body. The fire was near an apartment building that caught on fire and killed six more people, including two children.
Yes…. A urinary infection is definitely that painful. I think it’s probably a bit worse for men. A woman’s urinary tract is only an inch or 2 long but a man’s is as long as his…..”member.” What happens is that there is an infection where your urine come out all the way to the bladder. If you ignore it, the tract will swell and not allow anything to pass thru and your bladder can get an infection too. But you normally need an antibiotic to clear it up. I’ve had a UTI that was so bad I couldn’t walk. I was miserable. The swelling can get so bad doctors will have to put a stint in. Which is a tube that will allow urine to pass and the removal of that stint is some Of the worst pain you will ever feel. It’s a good reminder to drink lots of water!
Side note: back in those days, a lot of homes didn’t have indoor plumbing. That’s why he was heading outside to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. It’s called an outhouse.
Most people didn't have running water until the mid to late 40's especially in the country after the expansion of electrical grids to bring power to the farmers of America. My dad was in grammar school when he remembers bringing in the power lines. That was around 1947 in rural Tennessee, on the hill I sit atop as I write this.
Sir, if you've never had a bladder/urinary tract infection, you need to Thank God everyday. Imagine you've got a sparkler from the fireworks store and you light it and shove it up your ding dong as far as it will go. Then your doc has you pee in a cup the whole time. It's that bad! One time they wanted a cup full of pee and I damn near passed out. What the doc got was pure bright red blood. As soon as he saw it you could see him wince and sent me to the hospital across the street.
If a mouse can live so long, how old was John Coffey? John Coffey, JC, Jesus Christ is afraid of the dark because God is light. Also, JC died for the sins of others.
I've watched dozens of reactions to this movie and you guessed more future information accurately than I've ever seen anyone do. As to what John Coffey was, consider his initials. Another good Stephen King movie is "The Dead Zone." One weird little piece of information related to what you just watched. In the black and white movie where people are dancing, the man, who is also singing, is Fred Astaire. I saw him on a TV game show called "What's My Line?" On this show, blindfolded celebrities would try to guess the guest's profession by asking him questions. Fred Astaire was the guest so they were trying to guess his profession. I think it was probably the 50s. One of the panel, a lady who was a Hollywood gossip columnist, at one point asked him if he was a singer and he said "No." When the game was over and the panel removed their blindfolds and saw who he was, she said, "Earlier I asked you whether you were a singer and you said no. Why did you say no? You're one of the greatest singers alive" He said, "I just don't think so." Apparently, he was quite modest.
This is DEFINITELY DIFFERENT than the usual Stephen King story telling. In my opinion, the author wrote the character of John Coffey as one of GOD'S "CHOSEN ONES".
the film never reveals dels crime, but the book does, after an argument with his then girlfriend/lover, he burned her house down, killing her, her mother, and her two young children.
Not sure, l didn't read the book. The prisoner with the mouse was a arsonist, and a building he did. There was someone inside that he didn't know about. That could also explain the fiery execution.
Yes he’s innocent so deserves to live but he says he doesn’t want to because all day everyday he just hears and sees all the bad stuff in the world and he wants to be free of it because it’s constantly in his head
So, a guy named Paul tells a story about a miracle man named J.C. - who is an empath, a seer & has a gift for healing and then dies for someone else's sin after blessing people with LIFE...
1. Most folks CRY😭😭😭😭 2. Dabbs Greer/old Paul was ill during production, so his part was done later. He also played Reverend Alden on "Little House on the Prairie". 3. Hammersmith was not a good lawyer. (most likely a racial thing. It was 1935 South.) 4. In the book King briefly covers why the Chief and Del are on death row. 5. I know it' just for the movie because of the length of the execution scene. 8. IRL James Cromwell is a vegan and didn't want to grill meat for the BBQ scene but was told that in 1935 people actually ate meat so he agreed to have some on the grill. 9. RE Percy: Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. KARMA's a Bitch. BTW Kudos to Doug Hutchison for the great job of playing Percy.👌EVERYONE hates him. 10. (GOAT) 15. 4 words for you: Stephen King. You're WELCOME!
Stand By Me, The Stand (1992), Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile are just a few of the wonderful Stephen King movies I can think of off the top of my head. Oh, and The shining. Not all of them are fully approved of by King. If memory serves, it was Stand By Me that was his favorite adaptation.
Everyone loves Paul Edgecomb and John Coffey, and they are awesome...but, tbh, my favorite GM character is Brutal - he's a gem! Everyone needs a best friend like him.
King mostly does horror, but every once in a while he will step outside his normal box, and he gave us this masterpiece
I think some of his best stuff was outside of the horror genre. Just a good writer, really. I dislike the Tower bs though.
In this movie, Evil is human (Wold Bill), and the Protagonist is Devine (JohnCoffey).
Shawshank Redemption, another King masterpiece. There's a reason that man is legendary.
The people watching are government officials or those affected by the persons actions that put them on death row
When Del says goodbye to Mr. Jingles, he says, "Goodbye, my friend, I love you, little one. "
In 1935 people still had outhouses. Also there was no antibiotics for a UTI, urinary tract infection.
"We each owe a death - there are no exceptions - but, oh God, sometimes the Green Mile seems so long."
Fun Fact: Originally set in 1932, the timeframe was bumped to 1935 so that the movie Top Hat (1935) could be featured.

Fits John Coffey.
Fun fact paul lived till the year 2599

Bitterbuck violently killed another man over boots in a bar fight
This is a Steven King movie, there is always a supernatural element to his stories
No, not always: 'Misery', 'Shawshank Redemption' & 'Stand By Me' don't have any paranormal or supernatural elements to them. Most would classify them as Thrillers, but he's certainly earned his title of the 'King of Horror' 💜 -x-
John is every good and moral black man in America. P.S. An if John lawyer wasn't so immoral maybe John might have healed his son. PRAISE YAHWEH!!!!!!!

Sure you meant well but it’s a bit condescending telling him he can’t understand because he’s young
How do you know what he’s been through or hasn’t?
In the book, we are told that Del’s crime was that he raped a young girl, then set a fire in an attempt to cover his trail which killed a bunch more people.
I don’t think John was able to actually take away Del’s pain. I think it was more that he was feeling il along with him.

The movie was directed by Frank Darabont, who also directed Shawshank Redemption, Walking Dead. Frank worked with Stephen King a lot.
"The Mist" is a must-see!
His initials are J.C. ❤❤❤❤😊😊

This takes place in 1935 - before we had antibiotics... and a bad UTI can also involve the the kidneys, as well.
Gut wrenching & soul searching- so painful & beautiful at the same time.
There was no indoor plumbing for everyone until the 1950's 😮
Most people didn't have running water until the mid to late 40's especially in the country after the expansion of electrical grids to bring power to the farmers of America. My dad was in grammar school when he remembers bringing in the power lines. That was around 1947 in rural Tennessee, on the hill I sit atop as I write this.
Great movie, great reaction. Thank you for this.
6:35 The actor's name is Doug Hutchison, he was in "Lost" and was also known for guest starring on an "X-Files" episode.
He is also a creep in real life. Married a 16 year old girl when he was 51.

You are correct. The actor playing Percy is also the actor who played Horace on Lost. His name is Doug Hutchison.

I think you’re going to be a great reactor, thanks for the great reaction and I did join.
This is DEFINITELY DIFFERENT than the usual Stephen King story telling. In my opinion, the author wrote the character of John Coffey as one of GOD'S "CHOSEN ONES".
Edgecomb learns that Del is on death row after killing multiple people in a fire, a fire that he started to cover up another crime of his.
I've seen this movie probably about 100 times, lol. It's amazing.
I think this film is better.
the film never reveals dels crime, but the book does, after an argument with his then girlfriend/lover, he burned her house down, killing her, her mother, and her two young children.

Be sure to see the MIST THATS A GOOD MOVIE BY STEVEN KING 👍😎
my family on my dad side live a long time
Oh this movie gets me every time 😪
Gotta watch The Shining if you haven’t seen it, and then Doctor Sleep.
Really, It ties in as well. But it isn’t as directly shown
👌
Actually it is said that he has JC as his initials.

An one if the Roman soldiers who helped kill Jesus was cursed to walk the earth until Judgement Day.
i thought all of Steven Kings movies were horror films to but he also dond forest gump whitch has nothing to do with horror
John Coffey= Jesús Christ
