- Mystery Tasting In The Whiskey Vault - Glen and Friends Cocktails After Dark.
Today I travel down to Austin Texas to visit Daniel Whittington in the whiskey vault... But I didn't bring a whiskey for tasting, I brought something that he'd never heard of or tasted before. Today we're tasting Acerum, made from Maple.
Thanks so much to daniel from the Whiskey Vault for inviting me in to do this tasting: / whiskeyvault

I have a Question. Shall I email you or IG ??
@@91099Babar Just ask your question here
Hey Glen did you happen to notice the bottle #, on that bottle ?
@@RichardCook Yep - Bottle #1 or Batch #1
I had a really great time :-) thanks for having me as a guest!
Any time! Scouring my contacts for those elusive bottles of great Canadian whisky that we don't send South... I'll bring them down on my next visit.
Do I smell a Bastard’s Ball invite for Glen??
The Jules impression took me out 😂
Thanks for the review Daniel and Glen. We loved ""anything from a brown bag, you know it's gonna be good"! Cheers from Rimouski
Thanks for making such a fun spirit! I'm going to fly out this Spring and check out the distillerie, and see if I can get my hands on the 5 year.
And thanks for sending your wonderful gin to the Dallas area in Texas! Patiently waiting for your whisky to arrive.
So glad to see a collab between my favorite Distillerie and my favorite youtuber ! Glen you should do a video about your visit !! Beautiful sights in le Bas du fleuve
@@jay171994 Thanks for the love Jay!
@@jay171994 I hoping to film while I'm there for sure!
The part after the "end", post credits, whatever you call it, was my favorite part of this. Two people talking shop a bit, friendly banter. I needed that this morning.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Agreed! I wish it were longer lol.
The crossover episdode we didn't know we wanted, but desperatly needed
Loving these collaborations. Two of my favourite channels! Cheers, guys.
It’s amazing, isn’t?
Me too, I couldn't believe it when I started the video - a G&F and Whisky Tribe collab!
Interesting name! Acerum. Acer - genus Maple. Rum - self explanitory. Thanks, Glen!! Now I want to try it.
Road trip to Quebec time. We need this in the States.
@@violetwithey4618 I tap a couple of trees in my back yard, too! Got about a gallon and a half of syrup this year, but I don't want to ferment it all! Maybe a little bit, lol!
Well, that was an absolute delight!
Great segment! You’re both good at informing in an entertaining manner.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Most unlikely youtube collab ever! I love it
Two of my favorite nice guys in the same room. I would never have imagined a crossover between these two channels. Excellent!
That was great. I don't drink (or I do sparingly) and I found that discussion to be both fascinating and entertaining. Pleasure to meet you, Daniel. Cheers from Toronto.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This great I have been a fan of both of your channel and I have learn so much from both.
Cool, thanks!
This is a CRAZY awesome collaboration. Well done.
"Welcome Glen, welcome friends" from Daniel was just absolutely perfect, what a great unexpected crossover that I am so here for!
What an absolutely fabulous room!!!! It's making me want to drive from the Ozarks to Austin!! What a delightful episode!
The Vault is amazing!
This is one of your finest, just loved the “what’s it in the brown bag”. Then Daniel’s great personality and the question and answer at the end. The vault was great. All very 👍
Glad you made it over to Daniel, not glad that I'm craving a drink I can't get in the States.
A different and great video! Thank you for spotlighting another Quebec/Canadian distilling effort.
Glenn, been watching you for years, thank you for sharing that bio bit at the end. Im right in the middle of completely switching careers after more than 10 years in the audio industry and it was reassuring listening to you talk about your own experiences.
Well this was an unexpected surprise!
I love your drinks videos and when you show how picking different brands of the same spirit changes the final cocktail.
Great collab! Daniel needs to work on the Jules impersonation
So I guess the question is did the bottle go into the vault collection or Daniel's personal collection, would be kinda cool to have an example of a new spirit in the reference collection of a place that's training top tier pallets.
That's a good question
It stayed in the vault!
Now I know the collaboration I didn't know I needed has a second collaboration attached?
Then I discover that there is a maple liquor that I now need to try.
Wow! That vault! And I thought my husband's one cupboard was a lot of whiskey!😂😂
Love it! I've been a fan of Daniel and the Vault for a long time.
I knew it was going to be Daniel!!!!
No way!!!!? I never would’ve guessed this crossover would happen. Great video
I know where you are... the Whiskey Vault.. hooray
Rex first and Now Daniel...
No idea you'd be so close to where I am at, I will actually be in Montreal in a few months and acerum will definitely be in my radar while there. Thanks Glen!
That was cool. Cross collaboration is nearly always a treat for viewers. I am not an alcohol aficionado, but thoroughly enjoy cocktails after dark.
Totally great episode!! Love this collaboration. ❤
Love seeing the collabs. Hope you fly down more often!
This collaboration has me so very happy.
So interesting! I never knew how maple extract was made. A local maple syrup company ages their syrup in used whiskey & bourbon barrels & it really adds flavor to the syrup. This spirit would be interesting to try.
LUUUUUUUUV IT!!😎👍👍🙏🙏
My RUclips worlds are colliding in fantastic ways! First Glen was with Rex and Crowded Barrel and now he’s with Daniel. 😭😭
Edit: St. Laurent makes fantastic gin. From what I understand, the only place they export to the US is right here in DFW.
Very enjoyable episode. Top 5 alcohol episode. Thanks.
I had a feeling the “reciprocal video” of the whiskey tribe collab was coming. This was an awesome experience to watch. If I’m ever in Quebec, I will have to get a bottle to bring home.
Definitely not a collab I'd have seen coming! Awesome Glen!
@GlenandFriendsCooking I commented on the whiskey tribe video that the only thing missing was that I wanted to see you and Daniel going full on geek mode 😂
thank you for making that happen
two of my favourites for presenting technical things approachably ,and with clarity.
Good show as always thank you kindly. I would like to see you cook with this gentleman. And use your spirit in Texas barbeque.
Maybe one day!
Wait WHAT?? DANIEL and GLEN together??!! I'm amazed (:
And omg the hidden bottle in the LCBO paper bag!!
I Just gotta say, Glen you look incredible! Keep taki9ng care of yourself buddy!
This was an awesome Video Glen!
Wow! My favorite whiskey somm and my favorite old cookbook chef/cocktail historian!
P.S.... there is only one Jules!
Great Collaboration.
Reppin’ the LCBO bag, love it ! 😅
As a fan of both channels, I really enjoyed this.
I might have to get my brother to pick me up a bottle of that, he actually gets to Montreal fairly often. Awesome collab
The crossover I didn't know I needed 👍
What a fun episode. You had him...
That was fun - an interesting adventure. Cheers.
Excellent episode!
Whaaat? I’ve been watching you both for quite a while. I love it!
that looked fun for both of you
Wow! That is one hell of a vault. I'd love to get lost in there.
What a GREAT COLLAB!!!!!!!!!!!
Clicked on this thinking it was a Vault episode, turns out it was your channel!
Hey! Two of my favs!
I liked this a lot, keep it up!
I'm so happy with this collab
sounds like a really nice grass roots spirit that will be great in a cocktail
Rum was my first instinct, but never considered Maple Syrup. I'm surprised it wasn't more common before now. I'll check out the LCBO on my trip up this summer. Would be nice to have at least one bottle in the bar.
It wouldn't surprise me if this was made 'Underground' and shared amongst friends outside the prying eyes of the Mounties. But commercial / legal production is fairly recent.
@@GlenAndFriendsCooking indeed you are probably right. I’m naive to think there aren’t a few stills lurking about, especially in Quebec. Growing up in an Italian community in southern Ontario I do seem to remember Grappa floating about, but never tried it. It wasn’t until living and working in Kentucky briefly that I was introduced to moonshine. You and Daniel both have great channels. I’m sure it was fun.
How cool!
Mash up of two of my Favoritist You Tubers! They Joy is Real
Not sure if Glen will see this, but I'm from Naples, NY and there is a little distillery there called Hollerhorn that produces maple spirit. I find theirs tasting similar to tequila. It's not too far from Toronto (maybe 4-5 hours) if you're ever in the finger lakes area, you should check it out!
Really cool video Glen!
Cool team up!
So the better question would be what is the percentage of meals you cook in the studio and eat as dinner vs cooked in your actual kitchen?
Crossover!!! Ah!!!!
Yes!
What a great video, Glen!! Did you fly yourself down? Or is that too far for your plane?
I flew commercial this time, I was on a tight deadline between two other projects. But flying myself down there is completely possible.
Worlds are colliding!
I was hoping you did a video for your channel with them this collab was awesome
It is a Maple Eau-de-vie!
I hope they begin export to the UK
omg you two know each other? that is amazing lol
I live like a hundred K's away for that distillery, how the hell did I hear of this from you first. Thanks Glen!
'More than 25 liters of maple sap are needed to produce a single bottle.'
😯
Totally unrelated, you should try to get a hold of some Kyrö Dark Gin from Finland. I absolutely love this stuff.
Great team. Let this not be the first.
Very interesting! Because I am a former drinker, I obviously don’t imbibe in alcohol and I am wondering now if there are non alcohol equivalents to spirits? Or, does any fermentation process always produce an alcohol?
All fermentation (even bread) creates alcohol, so some of the '0% alcohols' use different methods to remove the alcohol while trying to retain flavour. While others try to replicate a spirit flavour without fermentation. Some still have a small amount (0.5%) of alcohol in them without having to declare it.
In the metabolic chain, you can have other organisms digest the alcohol further into vinegar (and ultimately into acetyl-CoA). Alcohols->aldehydes/ketones->organic acids, which is basically how you make kombucha.
8:00 "I don't think this is something I would drink" I agree. But I'm glad you did. Would you consider reviewing a kosher wine for Passover next week? Respectfully, W.S.
He said it wasn’t something he would drink NEAT, not that he wouldn’t drink it.
This was so good! Next we need Glen to make a trip to NY/NJ and visit @howtodrink
I'd love to set that up!
This was the crossover I so least expected.
As a person who can sip on straight maple syrup, don't judge, I was appalled that you were wasting maple syrup. But then when you said it was the left over sap, I feel much better
That's a wild Wiskey Vault! This episode reminds me of business trip to Holland. Kept seeing commercials for 'Genniver. ' A distilled spirit in brown ceramic bottle. So I brought a bottle home and it turned out to be a Gin, but heavy on the botanicals. Never seen it for sale in the USA, oddly. Maybe for same reason your maple Canadian spirit isn't imported to USA? Spirits must be classified by type, by the BATF, and maybe these don't fall into the rum, gin or whiskey group?
Officially they are classifying it as an eau-de-vie and government agencies seem to be happy with that. They are even pushing for a Protected Geographical Indication much like Cognac or Champagne.
Probably the biggest reason they aren't yet shipping to the US is supply. It was hard enough to get my hands on a bottle in Quebec where it's made.
Hey that's the whiskey tribe dude!
Daniel's now the @whiskeyvault guy!
Oh my gosh- can we be friends with Daniel?
Most surprising crossover since Brennan lee Mulligan was on how to drink out of nowhere.
The opening shot made it look like you upgraded your lens safe.
Can't wait until I can try this. Do you have any idea when they will begin selling it in the States?
Why do I get the feeling this could have been a 2 hour video with great discussion.
But the real question-did Daniel let you choose something from the vault to sample?😁
Yes - we talked about a lot of what was in the vault, and I did a guest tasting that will be on an upcoming Vault episode...
Thank you, Glen. I tried to watch the other video and I just couldn't do it. I'm just too old I guess.
I understand
I am guessing you were done there for the eclipse. Weather was not as ideal as one would have wanted, but hope you got to see some of it.
Nope - I went to Sherbrooke Quebec to see / film the eclipse: ruclips.net/video/GqWEVltq9hE/видео.htmlsi=bwkGuXTzpkmuFlKi
Then flew down to Austin to film this and a few other videos.
yaaas
"Hey friends" 😂😂😂
