Hey Buck, there is another model or rod holder by Wilson where the top plate of the rod holder can be swivelled so the rods are not in your line of sight 👍cheers for the video.
Been the law down here for many years Buck...I got a caution back in 1999 when I had rod holders on front of my old 60 series cruiser. Haven't put any on since. Thanks for the vid mate ! Top viewing as always
I bought a set of magnet rod holders 30 odd years ago from a fishing show still going strong they go on the roof these things are incredible, you carnt pull them off or slide them off, you have to lift one corner up and peel if off. They are a flat square base with a T piece on the top that the rods sit on then there is a strap on top that secures them, never seen them in a tackle shop anywhere, but a bloody good product.
Same here in Vic. I got a defect notice 7 or 8 years ago for a rod holder and a hi-lift jack holder on the front of my old 80 series, all purchased from ARB. They didn’t say a thing, un-bloody-believable.
Thanks Buck great information to consider. Good to see you have all the fishing 🎣 gear so hopefully you can show us a Queensland fish 🎣 this year in 2025 ! 👍👍🍻🍻
G'day Buck, yeah the law's are the same in NSW. I had a set of home made one's on my roof racks but the rods get covered in road grime and dust. Alright for a short trip to the local beach. I made a tube that sits above an awning with lockable ends,so far so good thanks mate for the insight
Great clip Buck, very informative mate. They nickname those rod holders “sausage makers” because that’s what they do to pedestrians if hit ! And I’m like you mate, I hate anything, I mean ANYthing in front of me when I’m driving, even bird crap on the passenger side of my windscreen does my head in. I wouldn’t want a bunch of sinkers and shiny hooks dangling down everywhere. 🤣👍 Just one thing though, and probably most importantly- has this new mod improved your catch rate at all ? 🤣🤣
Gday Mate, i was up your way over Chrissy and new years from the Hunter Valley (NSW) visiting my mum in Wongaling. Youre not wrong about the heat mate!! Ive got an 8 foot 100mm pvc tube with rhino lockable end caps for my rods on the side of my rooftop tent. Best decision ever. El Arish Tavern was another good decision 😅🍻
I used to keep a fising rod or 2 in my holder when on the 4WD. Yes I met the law, but I had several fishing rods stolen I wonder if its the law makers pinching the rods hahaha But yeah I just tend to keep a few grotty busted rods, within the law, and none get pinched keep up the good work
there was a copper in the Redlands city that enforced that law and he was a newby . well he upset a few fishos. never got me word of mouth ran quickly hey cheers for the info should help a few people out there
Great informative clip Buck. Hey I came across another Chanel today I think you would like. Called , The Aussie Bush Cop. Old retired NSW cop just sitting telling stories. I can see you sitting in ya diddlydonk 44 gallon drum chair telling some stories . He may even be an interesting guest for a live feed.
FNQ near Cairns. If you are from Victoria mate, you will find QLD very hot in summer. Humidity is the killer. Even South Queensland but it gets more humid the further North you go. I am 1700 kms North of Brisbane.
Okay mate, those rod holders are off a boat. The rod holders you buy from bcf/anaconda etc aren’t them. I live in NSW and I have never had an issue with fitting them to my bullbar.
Spot lights and or light bars are illegal on top of the bullbar in WA. Nor are they allowed to stick out from the furthest forward point of the bumper. It is legal to have light bars on top of the roof. A lot of people do have lights on top of the bullbar. It's not really enforced here. Fishing rod holders are illegal when empty as in Queensland.
I have different thoughts about it. Would I put my SW stella 6000 and $1000 super carbon fiber rod all rigged up and stuck on the front of my fourby? Not even sure i'd put my $200 BCF combo out there,,. To me these rod holders only make sense to carry super long one piece butterworth beach rods with wooden alvey reels where mud and sand is just a rinse off and all is good. Hey Buck, One thing to look out for having the rods mounted up on the front roof rack, Is if they are crusted in salt/ Salt water any drips down onto the top of the wind screen seal. It will rust.
I had an almost stand up argument with a retired Inspector of Police here in NSW while I was conducting a roadworthy inspection a couple of years ago. He trotted out his former credentials in a feeble attempt to influence my decision. He lost, embarrassingly so. What pissed him off even more was when I noted on the inspection report was that I had removed them & they shouldn’t be refitted, to cover my arse. I wonder how many people he locked up in his career, with his distorted lack of knowledge for the law. 🤦♂️
Here in W.A i've had the sausage makers on me bullbar for the last 16 years on me 80 series and never been questioned by the police, Maybe abit laid back over here lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣 This is a good example of a stupid law. Buck your right, It is illegal in Queensland to have a Rod Holder mounted on Bullbars as discussed without rods due to safety concerns. But instantly makes it legal simply by placing a rod in the holder? How would this resolve the safety issues which caused the law to be written in the first place? 🤔 I had to laugh at your mention of the Op Shop. Old mate two doors down got pinged for his rod holder a year or so ago and did just what you said. He got a small kids rod from Vinnies and it lives permanently in his rod holder except for when he actually goes fishing when he swaps it out for his fishing rods. 🤣🤣🤣
If you had of come and seen me 60 years ago l could of told you any modification object or fitting, protruding from any part of the vehicle in a manner likely to create the risk of bodily injury to any person is illegal and that would be up to the officers discretion. Now get that rod holder of that roof or replace it with a slab of VB.
@@Mrbuckaroonie.. the model like you have my get flogged. But the permanent fit type I was thinking could be left on and safe taking it off when you don’t have rods in the holder
Rods don't distract your view any more than that aerial in my opinion, anywhere at the front of a vehicle is is your line of sight. On the passenger side is exactly where the push bike riders are. Also with all the new safety standards, A pillars are at least 5x bigger than the old days and seem to always be in the perfect place to create a blind spot at roundabouts. I'm not having a go at you, I appreciate the information. It's just unfortunate that we have to make laws for the lowest common denominator instead of raising the driving IQ of people
I agree mate. I don't make the laws. There was talk a couple of years ago about them wanting to ban bullbars altogether. These decisions are made by the city slickers mate.
@@Mrbuckaroonie.. absolutely it's a different world in the concrete jungle, where they go from their air conditioned house to their air conditioned car to their air conditioned office and back every day. Up here in the tropics and out bush is a different world
Hi Buck, Those rod holders on the front of your bull bar are stupid and unsafe no matter where you put them. With fishing rods in them they will obstruct your view whether they are on the passenger side or the driver side duh duh. I put my fishing rods on the passenger side on the side of my rhino roof racks. So that they are out of the way of uncomming traffic. Only only a basketball player on a Penny farthing might be endangered by this on my Navara. Haven’t seen one ever on Inskip….
@@Mrbuckaroonie.. Yes. of course, YOU did the sensible installation if you want to use rod holders. My comment was in relation to mounting rod holders on the bullbar. which causes visibility problems and then some.

Great video buck. So now I can use this as an excuse for never catching any fish.
Happy new year buck good episode mate I didn’t know that either ❤🙏🇦🇺🍻

Instead of a square post replace it with pipe and do the same with the clamp on the bar. That way you can adjust it to suit

My rods will now belong on the roof mate. Works well for me.
@ just saying I’ve never had an issue.
The reason behind it is a sharp protrusion for pedestrians
Thanks Buck, good explainer. Have you tried a test fit by spinning the square tube 90 degrees? If it works, just need a new hole drilled.
Happy with the roof rack mate. Works for me and up out of the way. Long trips they get pulled apart and put in the back.
Scute Fishing Rod Cases are the way to go.

I always hose my rods and reels down when I get home mate so will also do the top of the roof and windscreen. Thanks for the heads up.
Good idea, you see blokes towing a fishing boat with 10 rods in rod holders with a similar position to a roof rack.
What about going to an Aluminum welder and have him cut the square tube off an re weld it on an angle to they are pointing straight back

I can’t see why you couldn’t leave it on the roof rack permanently. As it can’t be hit by anyone
