Hi Elley, George here. when I was a kid in Ohio, I knew where beds of fossils were in the limestone bedrock. I always wanted to find a trilobite and one day I found the rear half of one! for years we called it the "trilo-butt" I have since found a whole one. : )
I just bought a rock hammer, chisel and a small sledge hammer. Thank you for turning me on to a new hobby! Your adventures are super fun! Keep up the great work!
When I was in high school back in the 70s, we went on a field trip into a canyon in the White mountains in Owens Valley California and we found all kinds of fossils and I brought home a wonderful trilobite! How I wish I knew what happened to it! It’s long gone now. Fun watching this video. Brought back memories.
Wow. I drive Hwy 95 & 266 on a regular basis and never thought there would be fossils up there. I usually look for ghost towns and mining camps in that area. I sense an adventure later this year.
Howdy! Take a walk up fountain of youth canyon and I turned up a bounty of interest for you, just don't stop going up the wash it will benefit you. I found small geoyds, early pioneer/miner's runins and wonderful scenery good luck 😊
Ancient life very fascinating. 👍 Long time ago in 1977 I was on a geology field trip in New York state and I found a plate of trilobites in this black shale. For some reason I found all the good stuff on that trip I just have a sixth sense.
Thank you for being so specific on the location. I know you can't always do that, but when you do, I really appreciate it. I was out hunting Crinoids with Connie to day and it was a blast!!!
Thanks for the realistic geology field trip. Trilobites are my favorite invertebrate fossils. Too bad you didn’t find any whole ones along the bedding planes. Some of the fossils you showed may be graptolites. In college we took a spring field class to central Nevada 80 miles outside Eureka to look for Devonian trilobites. I found a couple- one tiny one about 1/2 in across and another big one where the nose and two eyes were poking out of the rock, but I couldn’t get the rest of the body out. There were also lots of shedded trilobite exoskeletons. I suspect you may have been finding these too. Rock on
The land sure has been shifted. It looks like a 55° angle of slope. Lucky its cooler. That guy wasn't in the mood to move. Some really nice specimens. Thanks and Happy New Year!
I wasin Texas a few weeks ago and was walking a wash...found a tad pole sticking it top surface out of a small rock. I was like....🤩 I found another beauty in Michigan, has 4 or 5 species....brachiapods, long cork screw Shells (forgot name), crinoids, and horn corral. It's a beautiful rock but not sure if I can protect it better for a show piece.
I was quite surprised to have picked up a shiney black rock one day out rock hunting only to discover it was a perfect trilobite fossil, nevada is loaded with many fossil beds, good video
This area is full of ancient volcanoes and cinder cones and stuff. Plus it was a shallow sea back when those trilobites were alive. Ichthyosaur fossils can be found a fair ways north of Tonopah at Berlin Ichthyosaur State Park.
I’ll bet a spray bottle full of water would help bring out the detail while smashing open those rock layers. Glad you didn’t have much trouble with the nope rope / danger noodle 🐍. I recently had a similar encounter with a rattlesnake while looking for a new paraglider launch with friends. Hiking down the mountain and suddenly I heard the rattle go off. Directly in front of me was a VERY large rattlesnake, coiled up and ready to strike. I slowly crawled backwards while completely freaked that there might be others nearby too. It took one warning shot at one of my hiking poles and I wasted no time getting up and out of there after that. My buddies were still descending and I had a tough time communicating to them that there was a very large and angry snake in between us, but they finally heard me shouting up to them and took a different path down. It definitely gave me a reality check and I’m pretty sure I went into a bit of shock after realizing how close I came to getting bit. Snake gators are next on the gear list for sure and I recommend the Garmin InReach Mini 2 with the SOS button as a good piece of equipment for solo exploring. Stay safe out there Elley! Thx for sharing! ✌🏼
I do NOT understand how you are able to be out in that hot desert sun for hours at a time, over and over again. I'd be dead in five minutes. LOL. I do have an amusing story about how I found a trilobite, however. I was about 9 years old (I'm 54 now) and was on a camping trip with my family at Lake Champlain, VT. We drove up from NJ, which took about 6 hours I think. We had JUST gotten to the KOA campground, and the first thing we all did was go down to the water. Very quickly, I realized I had to pee. Badly. So, I told my parents I was going to run to the bath house. And when I say run, I mean, I had to RUN. I am going to make a much more complicated story very short and just say that, as I was running (along a gravel road), I SOMEHOW spotted what appeared to me to be a trilobite fossil. I had only just learned what trilobites were at the end of that school year! But I had to make a very quick decision: Stop and look for the fossil, and risk peeing in my shorts OR keep running to the bath house, and risk not being able to find the fossil on the way back. So, I'm a science teacher now, and I made the same decision then that I would now, and that was to stop and grab that fossil! And it was, in fact, a trilobite! I still have it to this day! That's one of my most treasured memories. I was SO excited to show my parents!!
are you doing these digs on your own? just wonder as it doesn't seem too safe to do solo, can imaging a rock falling on your head or something like that
hey! I use lortone I think they are the best. but KomeStone are starting to get better, you can find them on amazon and also and the 3L rock tumbler www.amazon.com/dp/B09HZ4GKC5 is good too :)

Where at in ohio?
I'm right on Lake Erie. And yes, the limestone has some fantastic fossils. And glacial scaring in various places.

I know where a sinkhole is that has great brachiopods eroded on the walls. @@beepseatsfindingfoodtreasu8756
I left rathbone in 1979. I bet those fossils are still there....decades are easy when you've mastered eons...@@davidg5341
As a self proclaimed rock hound, and professional stone mason, I'm really glad I found your channel!
Same here! I have collected a lot of small rocks and I need to get a rock tumbler. Could you offer a suggestion?
Awesome! Thank you!

They don't always rattle to warn you. I have had a few close calls myself. Snake gaiters I highly recommend. Stay safe

Good video....thanks for going off the beaten path. Great field trip.
The channel is growing! Watch out for those snakes!😁
That was a beautiful place to hunt! I'm glad you found a few items, including the trilobite guardian rattlesnake. Be safe and keep having fun.

That was a lot of fun and I learned new things. Big kudos and thanks.
Awesome stuff, some of my favourite fossils are trilobite, last year in September I finally found my 1st whole one, it was pretty exciting!
When we hunted them out there our guide said they called them "exploded" trilobites.
What a beautiful nope rope too! What a wonderful day!
Elley rattler gave you a little reminder must always be careful when you’re alone very bad news glad you enjoyed your time thanks for your video

I'm a few hours north of there. I just started looking at rocks. Found some little fossils out here in Fernley NV.
We had a lot of fun in the Tombstone area. Duquesna? Etc
Could those weird fossils be a crinoid calyx with a portion of the crinoid stem? Looks like a calyx to me.
they could be im in no way a fossil expert :)

All fossil hunters check out Rockford, Iowa. Museum quality fossils.
When you first started it was cement waste
Very nice haul..do you have snake boots?
I don't have them
Maybe we will bump into each other someday, seems we are exploring the same neck of the desert(s). Cheers and love the content. 😎🙏

I think anything could be found alive in greenland :)

are you doing these digs on your own? just wonder as it doesn't seem too safe to do solo, can imaging a rock falling on your head or something like that
Yes I am mostly by myself. I try to be as safe as I can be. I can't afford to have a camera crew yet :)
Beutaful!!!

As a geology student I mapped Marble mountains near Cadiz. Latham shale....trilobites.....lots of them.
Very cool!
