Agree.. am a dog enthusiast... having impulse control and the ability to have a GREAT down is important for all dogs.. she did great. Training lefts and rights is a long process.. 6 months old WOW!
Young Kids having a go. Looked pretty good to me. Steadiness in the dog, which l bet wasn’t there by accident. Allowed you to let the dog display and develop its herding instincts and experience. The ring enabling you to create switches of direction and then naming them. That looks a great solid start.
I'm not an expert (not even a farmer), but, as a long time dog owner I thought she did really well. For a six month old dog to lie and stay like that is quite impressive and she shows no tendency to dive in amongst the sheep. Really good.
She was giving the command according to what the dog was doing so that the dog can relate her actions to the word. Did you notice the command word came after the dog’s chosen action.
@@wendyrowland7787 Yes, I appreciate that the commands came after the actions, but I still think it's impressive that such a young dog will lie down and stay put with sheep that close. I also think that the fact she didn't try to make contact with the sheep is impressive. I realise it's mainly the dog's natural instincts, but you don't often see one that good. As I said, I'm not a farmer, but I did spend a lot of time working with sheep in my youth and have seen a lot of dogs nowhere near that good.
That has got to be the most excitement I've ever seen from a child receiving clothing in the mail !! ROFL. Adorable !! Thanks for including that , Cammie

I love watching Meg. If you watch carefully, she very often anticipates the next command, thereby demonstrating she can read the flock as least as well as Cam!
Fern seems to catch on quite well. Lizzy be careful and don't do too much, my old woman worry speach...lol. Really love watching the dogs. How great you and Lizzy have some different expertise, means together you cover all the bases. Just a pleasure to see.
I'm absolutely over the moon about this video. I have been wanting a video about sheep dog training for so long. I began teaching my 8 year old dog some of the commands while we were out walking and he responds to them! It's like it's almost natural to him. And hes not even remotely close to being a sheep dog. Hes a Chihuahua shiba inu mix. It's also made me more aware of his behavior and Prompts me to be more in control, making him feel more secure. It's amazing.
@@TheSheepGame It really bothered me when I watched that video you made about people letting their dogs run loose and attacking sheep. I've never in all my years ever let my dog run free in public spaces because how could I control him? Dogs , like people, are unpredictable. He's my responsibility when we're out in public so I have to be the best Dog parent I can be. So when I saw your video it made me think that I need Ed to bring my game up a notch. That even though I always walk him on a leash that he still needs to be A better canine citizen..
Fern did very well, most importantly she listens!! Each and every child you have engaged with are just a joy! I love their names, so different than what we are use to hearing!! So nice to hear an appreciative child upon getting a gift 🎁 it certainly made her happy! That was a fun day for everyone! 05/18/22 9:30am PDT
The clarity of your new camera is just outstanding! Fern is coming along real well. Such incredible dogs! I had to watch this one twice. I am watching and clicking on all the ads, buying stuff I don't need because I'll do what it takes to keep you making these great videos! lol
your videos are the highlight of my day! fern's so eager to please, she'll turn out great. Hi Lizzie, great to see you and supporting fern's education. Cam, cancel the haircut, I've got a better idea! have Lizzie get you a 'onesie' that's REALLY fleecy that way the sheep won't recognise you coming after them (I can see it now)...haha....keep up the great work!
Collies have the instincts to work with the sheep it's great the way they do it I always wanted to try my belated collie but I didn't know any the farmers that would have helped me out at the time. But well done fern for her first time.
Great video. I have 9 GKids and I know the excitement the little girl felt getting her shirt. How exciting. Loved watching Lizzie and Fern. Keep up the great work and Thanks for sharing.
Oh, she's a good pup and has learned well and will get better. She's very smart and listens well. I've never raised sheep, but I've watched the sheep dog trials at several Highland Games I go to and she would do excellent. Lizzie has a god dog t me.
Not a farmer of any kind but I do have a daschound who I got as a pup three years ago. She’s a mess lol, but lizzys pup is astonishing. She’s learning your signals quite well. Amazing!
You have learned that Camera 📸 well. I have trained an Scottish Collie as a SOS dog. A lot of work, but rewarding. We are not interested in the ants Cammy 😂😂😂. Amazing view from the top of your car. Maybe trashing the car with the fence? Wise to leave the car and carry them yourselfs. Love the drone views. You are a great sheep 🐑 😂. Lizzy is amazing. Don't be to hard on yourself. I had no experience with dogs and needed an SOS dog for my autistic kids. Then you have to train the dog yourself. It was a big job, especially because I was already ♿ bound. The potential is there
Another great video, big smile on my face the whole time! Love to see your thought process with the fencing, and the effort Lizzy puts in with the training.
It's good to have fern watching how meg works the sheep it will help make things easier for Lizzy and why don't we see more of sky in your videos looking forward to seeing how well fern does with her training
Yes good for young dogs to learn a bit off the old dogs sometimes. Skye doesn't come out with us just as much, she hasn't been properly trained but is handy to help when gathering the big mobs.
Great video! I'm partial to the ending, but hey. The fence system seems pretty sturdy and good, and yea, I agree with some other comments, I would have pulled it down. As long as it didn't drag the yard too badly. I loved watching Fern work, she is gonna do very well. We were laughing though because Lizzie doesn't say Lie Doon as you do. I know, English versus Scottish, very different. My kids will forever say lie doon... Love it, you guys are awesome!
Great video on training sheep dogs. It is an amazing how focused the dogs are on the sheep and that they are born with that instinct. Your Dad sounds like he was a very smart man and knew so much about the ” Sheep Game”. Keep up the good work.
Loving the channel already - subbed! First time here, but that intro followed by the 1st two minutes of watching - very nice, positive vibes :-) Trying to learn as much as I can about sheepdog training in preparation for having a small flock ourselves.
My collie just had a litter of dual reg pups. I really hope to see some of them doing this in the future. It's amazing to see them develop their skills Brilliant work
In the future, when you need to move the fence panels use the wooden gate leaning against the wall as a type of sled tied onto the truck with a rope. Then stack the panels onto the gate and drag them across the meadow.
I've started one dog in a ring and another in an open pasture. Ring was easier to control the dog's access and step on her lead. The pasture gave me a broken finger when she yanked that long-line!
For 6 months old Fern is very keen to do her job well done Lizzy! Now Cammy if you was that trainable Lizzy would be all set lol ....Stay Safe Everyone Fr, Nova Scotia Canada
She's very patient for a young dog, it's always good having experienced dogs around. On another not, don't think you're up to chasing any bad guy's at the moment 🤣
Hi cammy am no a farmer of any sorts lol av got my own landscape gardening business but a think your videos are superb love watching them keep up the great work and I look forward to daily vlogs
Nice work for a pup :) Next to let her cast round without pressure behind so Lizzie can stay nearer the sheep. This will let Fern get to balance more easily. As Lizzie starts trusting Fern to cast a bit more or sets the shape of the flank at the beginning of it things will become easer. Cute pup!
Fern seems to be doing really well, really enjoyed watching the training. My own knowledge is just from watching Emma Gray on this farming life, haha! Those hoggs remind me of my daughters running wild at the weekend! Great video! Hi to Lizzie too 👍
I loved your flighty “young hog” sheep impersonation to test the fencing! 😹 That leap onto the fence was classic!
An old video but still worth the watch multiple times cammy class
Top marks for your flighty Hogg impression!
Lizzy is also going to be super fit by the end of summer along with the sheep.
Haha she will be!

Thanks Mary, we are keeping well. Plenty going on, but will do my best to keep the vlogs coming.
Fern is going to be a fantastic addition to the team. Good job, Lizzy! And the boys, of course 😄

🎉 sweet! I wish I had room like this for training my smooth and rough Scotch collies! Mine get trained on ducks for lack of space.
Hey Cammy and Lizzie! Fern looks pretty out there. She definitely wants to learn.😅

I love watching sheep dogs work. I’m 12 and I just got my first dog and I can’t wait to get him on stock. Good video and the best of luck to u guys
Thanks, hope you have fun getting your dog trained on the sheep
The pup did really well. Love you, Lizzie, the dogs, and the sheep! ❤️
Thanks Linda!

Lizzy does a great job. Fern has a great trainer/ mum.

thanks for the video - I am training my border collie on our small herd of sheep in Pemberton BC Canada
I'd ❤ to see more of Lizzie training the pups!
I lived next to a guy who trained trail dogs here in Northern Ireland. He started the pups on rounding up ducks before letting them near the sheep
Lizzy and pup were brilliant! Great job!!
What an awesome pup❣️
We love Meg and Sky and now little Fern 🤗
Glad I'm not the only one who does that. Figuring out the best way to do a thing can take so long 😂
I think the pup is doing well. Awesome job all the way around.
Thanks Cindy

Lovely to watch and funny
I'm no sheepdog trainer but she she looks good to me and a lovely stop 👌

Fern did great!!!
Think there is some great potential there with Fern Shari 👍
That was awesome! Border collies are soooo smart! I really enjoyed watching Lizzie do the training. Well done! Thank you for sharing.
Lizzy and Fern did a great job in this training! Fern really seems to be getting it and is a natural! You can tell it's in her genes!
They are coming along well, a vlog to come so you'll be able to see their progress.
Those sheep dogs can run so far and fast. It’s amazing to watch. They comer so much ground at the speed of lightening.
