- This is one of my favorite single-player Final Fantasy's in years. Sure, it has issues, but where it succeeds it does so with flying colors.

Despite the flaws of not being much of an rpg, i still truly love this game. If i follow my heart and ignore what others are saying regarding "lacking rpg mechanics", i would say that this game is a masterpiece and goty contender imo.
Yeah I like my endings clear-cut if it's open ended I'm expecting a expansion or sequel 😊
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the review! It was a skip at launch for me. A single character, action rpg is not something I have a desire in playing right now. The lack of a real party and other RPG elements made me not excited for the game. Maybe somewhere down the road when it is on sale I will pick it up because I LOVE summons and from what I've seen of the game, XVI really puts the summons front and center in a big way. (Again, wish we actually summoned them, but I'll take the spectacle of the battle.)
I hope you're right about the series returning to turn based (and party oriented!) at some point, but I have a feeling it won't. I would love to be wrong!

Interesting and insightful impressions. Personally couldn’t finish the game. Left in the final act.
Played Stranger Of Paradise before and that game had jobs systems, element type weakness, party customization, main protagonists had final fantasy attacks names (jump etc…) and it was not even trying to be a RPG. It was an action game first and foremost.
I consider FF a staple of RPGs and this ain’t it and it’s not even about the turn based aspect it’s more about the game designs and mechanics. I felt like i was playing a God Of War 2018 type of a game and even God Of Wat has more rpg customization than FF16 when it comes to Kratos.
I value the story and characters as much as the game systems and FF16, while excelling in the former, fells short in the latter.
Here’s hoping we get the best of both worlds next game 🤞
I would have to disagree and say 7R was the best FF since 10 TO ME FOR MY OPINION and thought 16 was an ok game. The story did not build out the world and characters like I hoped say for a few gems that you called out. It had almost no RPG things I look for, the leveling up felt pointless all hell very UBI kinda pointless. There was no element engagement dispute the character throwing element types left and right. It was a very basic flashy fighting game (even what is does well with the DMC combat felt watered down version of that) with a kinda basic reused FF story.
I did like it enough to play well into 60 hours so it did it’s job and would never call it bad. Just hit way lower on many points I was hoping and expecting that team would be able to meet.
If I wasn’t including FF7R since it was a remake amongst other things. If I was it would have easily been the best since 10 👍
It's finally a good mainline FF, but I don't know... I was really hyped for this game before release and now I hope the series doesn't continue like this. Also the story quality after the Bahamut fight dips and then plateaus
