My 6 year old niece is already an enthusiastic gardener and last fall insisted her mom could make a carrot pie using the carrots she grew. So, when the carrots were ready to harvest they used them in a recipe similarly to sweet potatoes and pumpkin purée to make carrot pie. My niece had complete confidence in the outcome but her parents…..not so much. When it came to tasting it the pie was a complete hit…much like sweet potato pie. (Don’t forget the whipped cream) We’re still not sure where or why a 6 year old would know about carrot pie, but it’s a story and memory we’ll cherish for a long time. 👍🥕🥧

Quick cake tip I learned from a comment several years ago. No need to spend extra on parchment rounds or cut your own an unbleached basket style coffee filter fits an 8 in round perfectly I even use them in my 9in and cakes come out clean every time. Spray the pan flatten the filter and spray again if not stuck down, peels right off like parchment and cheaper than buying the rounds. 👍

Caught him in the middle trying to sign off the video. How cute was that. The cake looked delicious and I’m glad you all enjoyed it. I once harvested carrots from frozen soil in Idaho one winter. What a pain to get out of the ground but surprisingly still firm and tasted good. It’s a great crop to eat off of throughout the winter as long as you can get them out of the ground. 🥰

Those carrots were huge and so loved watching the kids helping. How fun to share your cake with your family at the garden shop. I seen Aaron walk in but he walked out.

What fun! Your little sous chef really concentrates & her egg cracking skills are the best. Lovely to see the whole family enjoying the fruits of your labors!

Loved this video with your kids helping you harvest the carrots, then grinding them, then baking the cake. You are so good with showing your kids how things are done and allowing them to help you at such a young age. Samantha stole the show with breaking the eggs and adding them to the cake. Benjamin is so thoughtful with handling the worm and saying good morning to Russell. I'm glad that you didn't put raisins in the carrot cake--it's so much better without them. Loved seeing everyone enjoying the cake. Laura, you are such a good daughter sharing the cake with your parents and Monica. You all are such a wonderful family.

My mom once told me that baking with your kids gives them a great deal of satisfaction, to follow through with a task, and see the end results. I can't believe the patients your kids have. A 2 day process?! And then bringing it to nana and papa! So many learned skills, just from baking a cake. Laura you are sweet and patient with your kids, and the fruit is showing in them❤ love this video!
I was wondering, how did the shredded carrots taste? Were they sweet?

I never knew that carrots would last so long in the raised beds! They look great! I love the way the kids help you bake. They do a great job of following your instructions!

Susan is a ninja.🤣 I loved it when she said first we smell it, and they all leaned in. She was ready for the kids reaching and jumping, though. Adorable.😍🥰

I love when the cats come to help Laura in the garden. My favorite part of this video was the camera shot of Cheddar looking through the tops of those carrots like he was about to pounce! ❤❤❤❤❤

Last year I had the pleasure of meeting you at the Northwest Flower and Garden Festival. When I told my son, he was disappointed that he didn’t get to go and meet Benjamin. He told me “mom, he’s a RUclipsr and I wanted to play with him”. Please let Benjamin know my son Harrison (age 6) is a fan of his RUclips channel! 😄
