I enjoyed watching it to, accuracy, 0, entertainment, 10/10. Like what Flint said VP: Why did you kill those 2 soldiers Flint: They were wearing Battle of the Bulge ribbons VP: There were no Battle of the Bulge ribbons Flint: Exactly!
A great 👍 film and performances 👌. A evocation of real events and not 100% accurate. Yet conjures some very incisive scenes to press home the spirit of what happened. Bravo❤️👏
Wait a minute, are both Red Grant (From Russia With Love) and Blofeld (On Her Majesty's Secret Service) in this movie? I guess Bond (Dr. No-Diamonds are Forever) is fighting off against Stromberg (The Spy Who Loved Me) and Goldfinger on Normandy? P.S. This movie has two actors who are involved in Bond movies as well as The Longest Day which has three (Connery faced off against Gert Frobe aka Goldfinger while Curd Jurgens will be opposed by Roger Moore)
This was a great opportunity to make an epic film about a momentous battle in World War 2. It could have been up there with "The Longest Day" "A Bridge Too Far" (which was of course later). Instead it was farcical, comic book stuff.
Monty was almost "tanked", BY THE BRITISH, for taking too much credit for doing nothing controlling the north shoulder of the Bulge! According to Mark Felton the British lost 2,000 casualties, about 400 KIA, during the "Bulge", the US lost around 80,000 KIA, MIA, captured! Monty should have taken and cleared the port of Antwerp in September 1944! It's a movie, which means entertainment is more important than accuracy! The British fought for years more than the US, but the US saved NZ, Australia, and helped drive the Japanese back to Japan, which helped the British!
Don't be misled by this Hollywood production. 'The Battle of the Bulge - Brave Rifles', available on RUclips, is a documentary, accurate, and inspiring by true events. IT was nominated for an Academy Award! Larry
So ridiculously inaccurate I can no longer enjoy it, even though I thought is was very entertaining when I was young. I thought the last stand at the fuel depot was an awesome scene. Too bad entirely fiction.
A little piece of black country trivia; this was the last film to ever be screened at Brierley Hills Danilo cinema, before closing its doors for the final Time
The films been shown maybe two or three times over the Xmas period in the UK. It's still terrible though - what where they thinking? It's not as though quality film portrayals of WW2 hadn't been made in the 1950's and '60s so there's no excuse for this turkey... Just awful - badly plotted, terrible script, hammy acting and so historically inaccurate it's farcical. All in all an insult to those who lived through the actual Battle itself.
They no longer existed.By 1945 and the the last battle for Berlin the German army its tanks were almost completely destroyed by the allies.Only a handful exist today.
it wasn,t long after the war was over that just about ALL the REAL German armored vehicles, aircraft and other combat equipment had been scrapped if it hadn,t already been destroyed in combat. very little "real stuff" exists today in museums and even less in drivable/operating/flying condition. also,Germany,s premier WW2 tanks such as the Henschel Tiger 1,s and King Tigers and Panthers weren,t produced in the vast numbers like US and even more so Russian tanks. we built over 50,000 M4 Shermans and the Russians produced over 100,000 T-34,a in addition to tens of thousands of other Soviet heavy armor types whereas only about 1500 Tiger 1,s and perhaps 500-ish Tiger 2/King Tigers were completed and delivered. around 6000 for the Panther.
If you had a turret blown off your tank by an 88, the spallation (hot metal fragments generated) would kill the occupants There are stories about crews being hit by 88s in Pershing tanks. One driver survived because the shell entered between his legs, hit the back of the fighting compartment then richocheted up, killing the rest of the crew. Another where the coaxial machine gun got hit and bounced around the inside of the tank, killing all the crew minus driver or radio operator. In this movie, Telly Savalas simply ducks and then gets out of the tank...
I see the arm chair brigade is here. The tanks used and the area was in Spain. Most of the tanks needed to be accurate were no longer available. And this before CGI.
tbh, back then in polish and russian WWII movies, they would forge and assemble front, side plates, build over chassis and towers of T34s in order to have "panthers" or "tigers", still looked more reali than this movie...
This movie was full of crap. I live near Ardennes. Wrong tanks. Wrong historical info?!!!! 50 hours? The battle lasted a month.. Movie was partially shot in spain.. With desert. Even Eisenhower told on radio this was to bad to watch..
The filmmakers did the best with what they had at the time. Obviously German tanks and all other equipment from WWII had been destroyed by the time this movie was made! We'll done!
@@chrisjensonveryaccurateres1065 Not so inaccurate, the book Hitler's last gamble will have information on that and even though the film was generalized it portrayed what the seventh armored division went through at st vith including the part with the cooks and staff and with stragglers from the seventh armored actually at a depot sending down barrels to stop a panzer unit.
I was only 9 years old when I saw this with my dad and I couldn't help myself by yelling out: "Hey, those aren't German tanks, those are American tanks with German markings!".
Mistakes: -Chaffees used as M4 shermans (There were plenty of shermans so its a major "bruh" for the stupod director.) -M47 Patton used as Tiger iis (Those are rare and none were available at that time and should have at least done more research and use small scale tanks to make it impressive.) -The director really had a poor decision organising the filming location. (Spain is not snowy enough. Should have chosen Buldge during december.)
When Henry Fonda borrows the M1 rifle to take a shot at Col. Hessler, the rear sight is missing, mistake? My guess is the director didn't want anything obstructing Fonda's big, baby blues.
Kelly's Heroes had better mock-ups of the German tanks. At least they did some metal work to make a Tiger look somewhat like a real Tiger. This film was so half-assed they used stock M-48's for "Tigers" and "Panthers" even their version of "Panzerlied" repeated the first verse over and over again. Lazy shit from top to bottom, but most people don't notice, so that OK?
Imagine going back in time and telling an average American how the cultural life is now, they'd think you're possessed by the devil to think of such things.
They should have, but the Germans didn't have the fuel reserves for flanking by that point in the war. Also, air superiority pretty much belonged to the allies by that point, so a flanking maneuver was even riskier. (The Germans first attacked when cloud cover was at its thickest to try to avoid being bombed by heavy bombers or strafed my ground attack planes. (P-47 Thunderbolt, British Hawker Hurricane's)
Robert Shaw was just excellent in this. Best performance in the film.
RIP Grandpa. Buried in Europe originally. Moved to Maryland back home. We still take care of your grave.
I remember reading that this movie was son inaccurate that Eisenhower disavowed it
I got this film as a birthday gift. My opinion, not accurate in the slightest, but like John Wayne's version of "The Alamo" it was very entertaining.
I enjoyed watching it to, accuracy, 0, entertainment, 10/10. Like what Flint said

I once saw a group of French Foreign Legionaires singing the same, exact melody as Panzerlied, but of course they were singing in French.
Except that they kept repeating the first verse.

English actor Robert Shaw played both Col Hessler and Red Grant. Telly Savalas played both Cuffy and Blofeld
Dam if Telly Savales can get a hot French girl like that there’s hope for me !
She was supposed to be Belgian.
Who loves ya, baby?
There's one thing better than the "good old days", if such a movie were made today they'd definitely make a better effort at historical accuracy.
There are literally ZERO reasons why that would be.
Best movie about the Battle of the Bulge is "Battleground" from 1949. Or better yet, episode 6 and 7 of Band of Brothers.

Totally disappointing film.

Not very accurate the British also played an important part in the battle but for some political reason they are seldom mentioned.
My only problem with this movie is the modern tanks
If only they used original German tanks during the making of this film, it would have been much better.
