We all lost Ken on 11/4/20. Such a terrible year just got worse. Lord be with him and those of us left behind. As this song says: MY HEART IS HURTING SO BAD
Ken Hensley is the heart and soul of Uriah Heep. He was the creative driving force and set the direction for the band. He created a unique sound for the band, especially the Pedal Steel Guitar he plays. He is the next level musician. I don't see how Mick Box and other members could possibly fire Ken for no good reason. He wrote most of their songs. It's like The Who kicking out Pete Townshend. God bless you Ken. I am have always been a devoted fan.
the reason is money they were jealous of Ken getting most writing credits but that's what happens when you're the best musician in the bunch so obviously his songs were most prominently represented. He wrote almost all the Heep classics and since he left it's not Uriah Heep anymore to me
Don't want to make a negative comment on this. I had met Ken both before and after we both came to love The Lord Jesus Christ, we corresponded for decades until his passing to be with Jesus, but NEVER Once did he say a negative word about ANY other member of his original Heep Family.! I heard him preach and play at his former home Church in Kent, what an absolute Genius and such a beautiful and humble, wonderful man.
I have had this album in my collection since it was released and I learned that Ken Hensley died yesterday 04November2020 at the age of 75. Time and tide waits for no man. We are left with the music and the memories of our prime time. Thank you Ken for being part of the soundtrack of my life. God bless your soul and have a safe journey home. Amor y Paz.
One of my favorite song to jam on my acousitic. THis song reminded me of my buddy, Eddie Fleming who had passed away last year. He started playing the drums in a band when he was only seven years old. He sang lots of UH songs with his band. Ken Hensley was a true genius. We practically get so high to nothing but UH songs back in the early 70's. THank you for sharing.
To me, stunning proof that if Ken Hensley is not a bona fide genius, he is but one small notch below. What really propels this song is that (the late) Gary Thain contributes that great lyrical bass line. As I listen with headphones, I sing this song aloud while walking at the local park. People stare but those who listen, get it. Love Hensley. Tremendous that (nowadays) he gives all the glory to his Creator. Beautiful.
Still one of the best ballad songs ever written! This song always takes me back during my younger years while growing up in Saipan. Music never gets old, but we , human beings are the ones getting older by the minute.
Tall words, "...of all time, anywhere, bar none." But offhand, I can't think of a good arguement! Excellant album! Excellant sound quality as well. Thanks.
I completely wore my vinyl of this album to shreds. I was delighted to find it on Amazon in cd about 7 or 8 years ago. It keeps going in and out of availability. Keep checking back.
My buddies criticized me for buying this cassette back in the seventies. Sorry boys, I think I got this one right. Cold Autumn Sunday, also very good, good times my friends
This is a great LP, really like the Heep, solo and Blackfoot stuff. Got to see Uriah Heep a few times in the 70's, best with Gary Thain...he was an amazing bass player, Trevor is worthy though!...Haven't been able to find Proud Words, Eager To Please or Free Spirit on CD though...yet!
David Byron sang the first verse. Then Ken Hensley the 1st voice and David the 2nd voice. He had supported him then. But Ken didn't want to support David on his first solo album. Wonderful song.
@alanmorri I believe you can find the mentioned records on Amazon (not sure). In any case I have them all. :-) If I recall I bought them from one of the main Swedish Internet record stores, so they should be available in your country as well.
@aliennationmicrodot As I wrote, I downloaded the "tabs" (i.e. chords). They say the first chord (in the intro and the verse) is Dm and the second one is G. I tried all variants of those chords that I could find on the web, but it still doesn't sound right. (The ones that sounded most right were barre chords on the 4th and 2nd frets). It's also quite difficult for me as an amateur to get the higher tones right. I assume one needs to mute the strings on and off?
You should be able to play this in standard tuning with no problem. As previously mentioned the main verse is Bm to Em and then G, A, Bm for what could be called the chorus. The final section "My heart is hurting so bad" is E, D, Bm 3 times and then "ooo ooo from time to time" is D, E, Bm. And note that these are E major not Em like the main verses.
Does anyone have the tabs for this song? I only have one file called "tabs" with just the chord names, and none of the combinations I found in the chord program on my computer sounded right. Also, how do you strike the strings with your right hand. I can't get that right either, sounds too mechanical. (Yes, I'm an amateur, but I like to download tabs and learn to play good songs).
The album cover didn't help. I told some buddies about this record, they thought it pictured a bible on the cover. (I remember getting the 8 track tape of this one back then)
Heep was the "girly band" back in the days.. I too didn't have much respect for them for that matter. DP, LZ, BS.. Just much more in my wheel house.. . Until I've heard Proud Words, the entire album. Ever since I'm a fan of Ken, and his legacy. Byron was replaceable, Ken however was and is irreplaceable.
Uriah Help just wasn't Uriah Heep without Byron in my opinion. He had a great singing voice and he was perfect for them. Just ask Ken Hensley himself. Just wished he stayed away from the alcohol that basically killed his liver and he himself from alcohol related complications. He is dearly missed by me.
David and Ken had extremely well matching singing voices so much so that many people think it's David singing on some UH tracks when it's actually Ken. They could harmonize like no other and the subsequent singers UH had never could really satisfy there. In fact they should've just let Ken do the vocals thereon
Never liked Uriah Heep , they played kinda gang ho buffoon type of rock , someone wrote girlie type quite rightly but I do like Ken and this LP also The Gods Genesis and Toe Fat back in a day prior to 70's pompous, overblown, and mostly tedious music that ultimately destroyed rock'n'roll !
We all lost Ken on 11/4/20. Such a terrible year just got worse. Lord be with him and those of us left behind.
As this song says:

Какие группы были .....ничего близкого нет и в помине сейчас.

My favorite album of all time. And now I have my son, who is 34, loving it too.
One of my favourite albums ever. Thanks so much for posting! Please upload more!
Great album. Have been listening since it came out and still own a copy.
Yes, friends... It happens. RIP, dear Ken. Ever music stays.
Uriah Heep

Ta muzyka będzie towarzyszyła do końca mojego życia. Dziękuję Tobie Ken...

It is a pity that the maestro is no longer with them!
But his music will remain forever!
R.I.P. great man...
His song writing abilities are certainly second to none in Rock'n Roll.
One amazingly beautiful song!!
Still one of the best ballad songs ever written! This song always takes me back during my younger years while growing up in Saipan. Music never gets old, but we , human beings are the ones getting older by the minute.
far better to kiss her softly.........than looking back on a love you;ll never have again......
i haven`t heard this for 40 years
Perfekcyjna emisja głosu i ta gitara!!!! Ken jest mega czysty w dzwiękach
Uriah Heep e Ken Hensley! Grandes!
Amen yopage! amen! so sadly under rated! glad to see this music being enjoyed today, grew up with it
I concur with Yopa. Discovered this album in 1973 while living in Fairbanks, Alaska. Great album title says it all.
Same here, such a good song!!!
Great album !!!!
he is the power of the uriah heep...
Tall words, "...of all time, anywhere, bar none." But offhand, I can't think of a good arguement! Excellant album! Excellant sound quality as well. Thanks.
agreed i haven't heard this in some time awesome thanks :)~
I think his solo albums are so underrated...I love particulary the ones fro '90 and '00...
even more than this album...great composer...
I love him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have loved and lost with this one....
I completely wore my vinyl of this album to shreds. I was delighted to find it on Amazon in cd about 7 or 8 years ago. It keeps going in and out of availability. Keep checking back.

... 4 my Chris...
fuck yeah. fuck yeah...
you got that right
David Byron sang the first verse. Then Ken Hensley the 1st voice and David the 2nd voice. He had supported him then. But Ken didn't want to support David on his first solo album. Wonderful song.
Show de Bola !!!!
The man here and Neil Young have the same guitar style. God sounds great.
What? Ken is far better guitarist than Young
....Once I've loved the pretty woman..
Thanks for posting my puppylove heartbreak song. How about "For The Last Time"?
He is a god !!!
❤️🎶

anybody sees a little resemblance to chords of life by joe satriani?
Marsha Tate u like Uriah Heep Check this solo Album from Ken Hensley [lead vocals Uriah Heep] Proud Words On a Dusty Shelf
Not Uriah Heep - Hensley solo.
The album cover didn't help. I told some buddies about this record, they thought it pictured a bible on the cover. (I remember getting the 8 track tape of this one back then)
For an Englishman he sure looks like a native American.

For reasons not so easy to understand
the commercial radio never liked him.
He was too good for that much like Ian Anderson, the commercialists never understand true genius

what are you talking about? Uriah Heep wasn't 80's hair metal
