Iconic building, caught a Ribble bus here every day to Blackburn from the day it opened till 1972. Huge improvement on what was there before. Only criticism is it was not very pedestrian friendly. Still remember asking for ten No6 and a Motorcycle News at the newsagent and getting served at 15yo. Different times.
It has changed a lot since these runs, there was an extensive and very sympathetic restoration of it not long ago with increased pedestrian focus. It's a glorious building and it's not going anywhere now!
Yes, absolutely criminal they were trying to pull it down. Clueless and feckless just like the planners who tore down half of Britain back when stuff like this was built. I'm glad I got all this footage to show it just before its glitzy restoration. From what I've seen it now looks cracking and very tastefully cleaned rather than gutted and ruined. Too many of these gems are being covered by stupid plastic cladding all over the place as we speak.
Even in its neglected state it looked majestic. Go have a look now. It's stunning.

It’s disgusting, please get your eyes tested.
it's not the same to me, i miss the going through the subways and stuff
@@JayGeeBee07 Are the subways gone now? Or just thoroughly modernised so they aren't, shall we say, 'characterful'?
@@MartinHannett_ i think the subways are gone, there's no way into them
10:45 - I used to absolutely terrified of that subway when I was little, was down there once and all the lights went off.
it’s been sealed up now?
i was terrified of the one to the guild hall for some reason
@@dominiccollison7778 Has it? That's a great shame if it has 😔

Patrick Bradley That’s good to hear.
Proof that Brutalist architecture, if done correctly can and does work.

I miss when it looked like that
They seriously need live departure boards for that massive airport terminal of a bus station!
It's a glorious place, live departure boards would be practical but wouldn't fit in with the building.
Patrick Bradley
They do have them now! Surprisingly, they somehow managed to eat the funds.
What a joke having to pay 20p to use the toilet what if an old person who needs has not got any money.
Still the case all across the UK
@@MartinHannett_ yeah and there is no public toilets anymore I have to go to the pub.
pontefract bus station toilets are free now, same with Wakefield, and leeds
They are free now.
