  • I have spliced together segments from ten different versions of 'A Christmas Carol' to create a version as faithful to Charles Dickens' book as I could. I have also included the best of some of the modern interpretations that although not what Mr Dickens could have imagined, still honor the spirit of his Christmas masterpiece. This is part 1 of eleven.
If you haven't read the book give yourself a Christmas gift this year and do so (it's online.) Despite the many film versions made (or maybe due to) you really don't know the real story unless you read it. The films change, delete and even add their own crucial elements of the story at the whim of the adapter. Enjoy watching this knowing it is very close to the real thing.
I think youtube has really added to the number of characters they allow in these descriptions; I am going to just keep going :) Notice the dialog between Sir Seymour Hicks as Scrooge and the two portly gentlemen solicitors in the 1935 version at 6:36. The words of this eloquent 'pitch' are Dickens' almost verbatim in this beautifully acted segment found in it's entirety nowhere else.
