    Thank you so much for a step-by-step tutorial. I especially appreciate how you focused on how to begin with tying a loop to start plying. This is where I was having difficulty; just starting the ply. I watched a lot of videos and yours is the most helpful for a beginner Navajo plyer like me. ;-)

    Wow!! I have never spun a yarn. I shouldn't say never but I once help my late Mom do one but on a different one in the old-fashioned way because I myself is a Navajo. 😊

    THIS is my favorite way to ply yarn. I taught myself how from a book many years ago. It's been a long time since I've spun or plied anything. My fingers are "itching". ;) You describe and demonstrate it so perfectly! Thank you!

    I would give anything to even be able to buy the cheapest of materials and tools to do my own spinning. I can't get any farther than free library books on the subject but that does no good if I don't have tools. I watch your videos and find myself daydreaming that 1 day I will be at a beautiful spinning wheel. Your very talented. Keep being you.

      Dawn clifford i made my forst drop spindles from wodden dowels and some little wooden toy car wheels cost me around $6 and i was able to make 4 spindles. They work great!!! I was able to score some free fiber at a yard sale.

      @@bridgetutyro9891 I was going to suggest the same thing! As for fiber, I know it sounds a little iffy, but people often spin dryer lint or pet fur if you can't get your hands on fiber!

My kids were young so time was limited. I know I’ve seen something like this recently but it wasn’t with spinning I don’t think. But I can’t quite remember lol. Anyway thanks for sharing! hi - just a quick question, when is this a better option to plying 2 seperates or more together ? i have used this method when limted with the type of fleece i have spun and does it suit crocheting with ?

    • @ExpressionFiberArts
      @ExpressionFiberArts  Год назад +1

      Hi Donna, thank you for your question. I'll do my best to help.
      That depends more on what you want to make with it. Do you want a tighter twist, so that it's more durable? Do you want a loose, relaxed twist that will drape more?
      Two really good spinning books are "Yarnitecture: A Knitter's Guide to Spinning - Building Exactly the Yarn You Want" and "The Spinner's Book of Yarn Designs." Those might be helpful figuring out what the best plying method for your need is.
      I hope this helps.
      have a lovely day! 💕

      I found it easrier doing it with a drop spindle :D but probably because I found it easier to stop the dropspindle, ply and then continue, while I had trouble controlling the spinning wheel and the plying... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Can I mention a possible video topic? For those who can't use any kind of wool, I wonder if you would have any recommendations for the best acrylic/cotton/nylon/etc yarns. I realize you are in the wool business, but I wonder if you have any experience or insight in alternatives in any case. I see plenty of acrylics that have a nice color and sheen to them, but what bugs me is how quickly they seem to go hairy/fuzzy looking. And other types that don't go as fuzzy, but don't have quite the good looks or sheen to them. Just wondering if you have any opinions on those alternative yarns that you could share. Thanks for all your videos btw I have learned so much and am just thrilled with my new hobby. I have wanted to knit for so long but have been so intimidated by it, and you have demystified it and made it so fun and easy.
