I’m a public defender in Washington state. I went to a top 20 law school and passed the bar the first time. It’s bullshit that we get this rep that we don’t work hard for clients. I think the reputation is based on the fact that we have more clients and heavier caseloads than private attorneys but we know just as much and work just as hard for our clients.

I'm a public defender Roxstar in Florida (a real one) and I work everyday for my clients no matter my paycheck because I believe that everyone is entitled to the best defense. Because I handle so many cases, I have more experience than most private attorneys and many of them ask me for advice. As for the caseload- we don't deal with every case, everyday. We triage and handle the cases that are coming up first. If we need more time to prepare, we just ask for a continuance. I saw most commenters say that we work with the State to close the case quickly. The other side of that, is that most clients want to resolve the case quickly because they get tired of coming to court and/or they want to get out of jail. If a person hires a private attorney or is appointed a PD, I think a person should set up a free consultation and get more than one opinion of the case. Not all private attorneys will work for you. Basically, I think we get a bad rep because the entire story isn't told about what we do. When we get a not guilty at trial, get a life sentence instead of death, or get charges dropped- that story isn't told.
The myth about Public defenders(PD) is equal to the “all lawyers lie” myth or “blondes have more fun”. It’s been perpetuated in our media& homes as being true (for years) so people genuinely believe it’s true. P.D’s are county employees, private practice attorneys work for themselves. P.D’s caseloads are very large, but we all are required by abide by the same code of ethics. P.Ds sat for the same bar exam as private attorneys and passed the same exam as private attorneys. We chose different career paths...Also, the DA and PD do the same job at opposite ends of the spectrum. And yes! We might be friends or cordial! Some of us went to law school together or have worked closely together for yrs, that doesn’t mean we won’t advocate zealously for our clients! BUT we also live in a society where people can’t help but let their inherent biases sneak in from time to time. If you don’t like how your attorney is behaving report them to their supervisor or the ABA ethics board.
I didn’t like the overall tone of the Sidney Starr scenes. Even from before she got into the car with Kimbella and Cyn it seems like there was an undertone of I’m better than her. She’s beneath us. Then seeing how everyone was talking down to her and how she just let them was annoying. Then her begging for Nya’s friendship took the cake. It’s hard to watch.
They had a certain attitude towards her bc SS was looking crazy w/ her tight @$$, short @$$ mini dress to a vineyard in 30degree temps, then her convo was crazy.. Who has convos like that w/n mins of meeting? SS just comes off socially clueless af

Domestic violence is a real thing..when my narcissistic ex forced his way into my house.. looked me in the eyes and told me he was evil than satan while his hands where getting tighter around my throat and I couldn't breathe..then says he could kill me and no one would know what happened..when I was able to get to my phone and call 911 he was already gone and it took 45 mins for the police to show up...u can't say what you would not do to save your life. I wish people would take her situation more seriously and understand what domestic violence is. And how you want to get out but sometimes you can't. She should not be found guilty..dude coulvey killed her. It was self defense if the story is as she describes..
I was facing serious time raising a newborn with my fiancee. Honestly, I never cried during my 1 year continued case. If I could explain how I felt I would say I felt mentally trapped. I felt like I was in a nightmare hoping I'll wake up because no way did I image my life would end up like this. I felt numb but extremely scared at the same time. It wasn't until I beat the case when I finally cried.
I think the entire time Rich and Miracle were on the TV, I found myself yelling at the TV "YOU SHOT SOMEBODY!" I don't think she understood the severity of what she did. She seems like a good mother, but I think she was in shock. But I was beyond annoyed when she said she didn't want the felony on her record. I understand, having a felony on your record can mess up a person's life and those around them, but all I could think was "YOU SHOT SOMEBODY! AND YOU WANT TO GO TO TRIAL?!?!?" But the entire wine vineyard scene.........THROW THE WHOLE SCENE AWAY

I'm not a public defender, but the work load seems to be so large that they don't have enough time to properly prepare for cases. I remember feeling the same way as a CNA. Everyone wanted me to work so fast, it wasn't possible to give EVERY patient the BEST care. I had to treat them ALL like family, but time didn't allow that. Needless to say, I didn't stay long.
I use to work at a nursing home in administration and when i say CNA’s are the hardest working people in the building. You guys have the most contact with the residence.
A felony record can prevent one from receiving government assistance/ housing, financial aid, professional licensure and some jobs. Unfortunately, no allowances made for people who do their time and learn their lesson.
SC TravelRN a person with a felony can get financial aid and professional licensure. The only way financial aid will be affected is if it’s a drug conviction. As for licensure, it depends on your conviction and field you’re in.

From my understanding, Caitlyn Jenner (and a lot of other transwomen/men) skip the procedure because of the possible significant loss of sensation. I would assume that would have to be a procedure someone REALLY wants to actually go through with it and the complications it could add to their sex life. PS: I’m not trans but I do have a cousin that is a transgender woman that choose to skip the actual sex change after learning about some of the possible side effects.
A lot of Public Pretenders work with the Prosecutors to get u jail time. They don't try to beat the case or get u the very least. They make it seem like they're trying their best tho. They say some shit like "they wanted to give u 5yrs but I got u 3yrs instead. Take it to trial and you'll probably get 10yrs. Its a good deal, sign right here."

From my understanding, Caitlyn Jenner (and a lot of other transwomen/men) skip the procedure because of the possible significant loss of sensation. I would assume that would have to be a procedure someone REALLY wants to actually go through with it and the complications it could add to their sex life.
PS: I’m not trans but I do have a cousin that is a transgender woman that choose to skip the actual sex change after learning about some of the possible side effects.
