Thank you so much. Day 2 of luxating patella, & ACL surgery. My pup hates the ice, and I am having a really difficult time… I know it’s very important, but he resists, and flops around so much that I am terrified he is going to injure himself. Other than that things are going much better so far with this surgery. He had his other leg done 4 years ago
Wow. Your videos have helped me out a lot. But my poor baby she came out of surgery yesterday and she is definitely not progressing like Hank 😩. He is just laying down in her stroller , won’t move , doesn’t want to drink or eat , doesn’t even want to walk when I take her out and put the sling on her. And her scar/ stitching are BAD looks like they just out a chunk of meat and sewed it together 😢
This is video #4 of 11. I have posted each week since Hank's Medial Patellar Luxation surgery. Click or copy the following link to view previous videos. ruclips.net/channel/UCMm0Ov9Jby-zs95eE6LjwFg
Were you on the floor with him here or on the couch? My puppy is having this surgery next week and I am trying to figure out how I can lay with him if he needs comfort but still get a bit of sleep. I've even thought about attaching him to me by a harness on my bed so he absolutely doesn't fall off.
what did you end up doing? I'm having this same thought when it comes to my 5lb dog. She used dog stairs/ramp to get on/off the bed and i don't want her to jump off in the middle of the night
Hi Anthony. Our surgeon preformed the following... incision in the medial muscle (medial desmotomy) to stretch the medial pull of his patella. tighten the lateral muscle (lateral imbrication) to laterally pull his patella. (No TPLO preformed, as his ACL was NOT torn - this was a good thing). tibial tuberosity transposition (TTT), along with femur and tibial closing wedges. Hope that helps and makes sense :) Good Luck to you!
im on day 2 of my pug getting this surgery and i cant even get him to calm down to try to ice him, hes trying to jump on everything and anything and i have no way to calm him down hes like a rocket im so scared hes going to injure it when im not looking
Chantelle, I'm so sorry. This is so hard! I remember Hank was really upset the first night once his medication from surgery wore off. Looking back, I wish I would have managed Hank's pain a bit better. My advice is to contact your vet and get his/her recommendation on managing your pug's pain. Or maybe a calming/sleepy med? Hang in there. It's so tough, but you and your pug will get through this. Courtney
I've been watching your helpful videos after my puppy whom is six months old started crying with his left hind knee up. That was the first time, but by the second time his knee went up we took him to the vet and they've told us that is was a dislocation of the knee. They say that our puppy should have surgery when he is one year. Do you recommend a surgery at that time and also do you think it would be better to go to a professional specialist instead?
Hi Sarah. Sorry for the delay in response. I would see a specialist. I took Hank to two different specialists. The University of Minnesota Small Animal Clinic and the Animal Emergency & Referral Clinic in Oakdale MN. I also took Hank to a few general Vet Clinics. I'm so glad I saw the specialists. It is similar to seeing a general Family Clinic Doctor vs an Orthopedist if you tore your ACL in your knee :) Good Luck to you!
This was so helpful thank you for sharing!
