This intro is just so good. I mean the intensity of the rhythm and tempo mind blows me from being gentle and then unleashing a fury of pure rock. This band is what music is all about.

The intro riff is quite simple but what makes it difficult to play is Johns magic of string muting which is a extremely difficult technique to master

I dont think its john technical ability that grant him all the praise. Rather I think its because of feel and his playing. He is using the guitar as a vessel to communicate and his melodic phrasing is wonderful. that is why hes a great player. Then again the topic of discussion is entirely subjective.
Id be curious to learn a few other players you feel are overrated.

RHCP has a USP of making tracks in which instruments do not subdue sound of others. You can hear the base drums guitar distinctively.

This is on my go to RUclips music playlist for work. Found it over a year ago and still gets constant play. Such an unbelievable rendition of the song, they were on this day.

I had the blessing of playing for a couple of thousands in my home town and felt like I was at the top of the world. Since that day live my life searching for that magic conection through music. Watching this guys play in front of that crowd gives me goosebumps. They must be feeling exactly the same. There's no past, no future. Just the moment

The kids that came to this show, after they grow up will be like my father took me to one of rhcp's concert when I was 10 and I fell in love with their band and since then I always played their song wherever I go.....
The Peppers are the purest musical experience you can have at a stadium show. Most shows are super produced and programmed.
These guys jam as they please and their songs can have improvised changes whenever they want

Love the way they werre just riffing off each other before AK pounced onto the stage. So comfortabe with each other they know where it's going before it even goes there. Totally professional with such flair & enthuiasm. Glad JF is back, as good as JK was filling in for those years in between. THIS is the proper RHCP line up.

He's so underrated! It's hard to say if the drugs made him so brilliant, or the worst. I miss his musical voice to the world.
He has great energy here but the improvisation in the beginning was pretty bland to be honest, he just played common licks from the pentatonic scale on repeat

I love that when you go to a chili peppers show there's 40 minutes of actual songs and 3 and a half hours of Flea, John, and Chad just jammin.
Whenever I see a quiet crowd, I don't think they're bored of the performance. I think of it as they're so mesmerized from the sweet guitar playing that they just stand there in awe.

The decade with Josh Klinghoffer was fantastic and I think The Getaway is a really good album BUT JF has no equal as a guitarist plus he has that telepathy with Flea and Chad that probably wasn't quite there with Josh. Josh did a great job though.
They have been making amazing music for a long time.
