  • Sorry its been awhile since I posted anything job related. Finally updated my iMovie and had to get use to using it. Decided to post a VLOG of me just switching trailers in the yard. On down time between or before my routes, we use our tractors, or the yard goat to move trailers in the yard. Alot of fun but I can't see myself doing this 12 hours a day.

    Quick tip: when you hook up raise the trailer a little bit before you connect the airlines so you won't have to bend down that works for me. I move 40-50 trailers in a day takes a toll on you

      🤣 that’s it. Try moving 125 trailers on a 10 hour shift..

    That looks like something new drivers should do. Lots of backing experience over and over again.

      nah, they prefer experience drivers, trls gotta be docked in seconds, not a half a hour

      +supertruckerdave1979 I think was referring to how new drivers could get alot of practice.

      Yeah they would be tearing shit up. Lol. A lot of these places expect the yard drivers to go too fast for someone with no experience.

    I was a yard dog for 3 and a half years, it was a fun job for the first year and a half. then when I wanted to get back on the road driving I had a hard time finding a decent company to work for because most companies don't consider jockeying trailers as experience. I have 14 years experience and basically had to start over again...great video. stay safe and have a good one

    • @ricecakeFTW
      @ricecakeFTW  8 лет назад

      yeah, usually if we are short tractors and need trailers moved, we use the Goat. it's usually before my route begins or during some down time. our yard doesn't have a dedicated yard driver.

    Hey Mike sorry the post office isn't what you had in mind. I really appreciate all your videos and how you have influenced me to start driving and that you aren't afraid to show your faith. I live in the Green Bay area so I'm planning on starting out with Schneider and seeing how it goes from there! Good luck man.

    I've been a yard dog for 2 days and would love to learn from your experience. I need to know how to do a proper setup (with 53's) and where the marks are. I've not found any info on how to back in a switcher truck yet . Not at all like a big truck with a sleeper. thank you.

    If you just hook the red line .in the winter time it could put you in a jackknife with no trailer brakes. The trailer will be pushing with no brakes.

    Respect...Yeah again u just at wrong facility, we used the one line & no seat belt. And we didnt do 12hr shift, but thats 4hrs @ time and 1/2 plus night diff...Trust me being a yard dog at a plant where u have to open & close doors and or bang on rail doors to get them to close and going home w/ your hands hurting from that every night is not fun. I've done both. U have it made, & dont know it.

    mike, I understand you are seeking alternative employment. seems to be a case of trying to make a local driver/ switcher out of an otr/regional driver. I urge you to look before you leap though and carefully consider what you would be giving up. you are newly married and buying a house right, neither activity is very otr/regional truck driver job friendly. in the long run at the end of the day what is most important to you?

    • @ricecakeFTW
      @ricecakeFTW  8 лет назад

      yes, the yard goat is street legal and can be driven on surface streets only and not on the freeway. of course it has to be registered and have plates first.

    • @towlife440
      @towlife440 6 лет назад

      For what I was told by a guy who drove for over 30 plus years. Yes a person needs a CDL A to drive, weather it's just on the property or going between buildings via public road

    • @jumpflight7373
      @jumpflight7373 6 лет назад +1

      It all depends on the company and the status of the truck. If it's licensed to go on the road you need it. Otherwise you don't.

    • @ludditeneaderthal
      @ludditeneaderthal 6 лет назад

      Technically, a non-DOT/EPA yard truck doesn't require ANY license or cert to drive legally. It's shop equipment, just like a pallet jack. However, the insurance man will buy his kids Porsches as graduation presents on his premium commission on that account, lol. So, unless self insured, companies pretty much HAVE to demand a class a license, along with the drug testing and other hoops to dive through as a limiter on costs and company liability. It also makes it more palatable for customers to know every 5th wheel that touches their goods has a licensed "loose nut behind the wheel" doing the steering. You don't need a forklift cert "legally", but very few warehouses don't require one to run the hyster. Same reason, the insurance man and his actuarial table that says you not having one is worth a retirement home, ROFL

    Schneider was your fit Mann sometimes got to be where you are comfortable its good you tries all these company's.like the post office and car transportation and all but Schneider is very flexible on like you need day off unexpeditly and they will work with you You don't have to worry about oh crap who is going to run my route who going to take my run so there is no stress about that unlike these other company's if you do that you already just look bad for even legit reason for calling off because they just car about that load getting where it supposed to be and they don't have extra back up drivers for it. Just go back to Schneider talk to Sandra
