I'm from The Netherlands and carp is not an invasive species over here (although they are not really a "native" fish, they were introduced here by the romans, so quite some time ago). The spot you found looks like an angler's paradise to me: beautiful surroundings and packed with very strong excellent sport fish.
Great work, Nathan! I have no doubt that you will racking up carp asap. Stunning spot, and glad to see you add another "string to your bow"...thanks mate for another great video
I'd love to have a go at bowfishing as I 've seen a lot of videos from the US doing it, but I live in Queensland and it's legally considered the same as spear fishing so you can only do it in saltwater or on private property. A tin of corn and a $20 Kmart combo would see me having a whale of a time in the creek. Looks like a good fun way to pass some time between shoots.
Water refraction is tricky. I used to use a hand spear to catch stingrays and it took a while to get the idea that you have to aim lower than where you 'see' the fish or ray.
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK Hey Nathan, I use the 10/4 and 1/3 rule combined and it works really well. The 10/4 rule is a horizontal distance rule, for every 10 foot horizontally away from you, aim 4 inches low. The 1/3 rule is a depth rule, for every foot deep, aim 3 inches low. You combine the two rules. Example: If fish if 10 foot away horizontally and 1 foot deep, then your will hold 4 inches (10/4) + 3 inches (1/3) = 7 inches low. If the same fish (still at 10 horizontal) was 2 foot deep then you would hold 4 inches (10/4) + 6 inches (1/3 rule) = 10 inches low. Likewise taking shots at fish swimming directly towards you or away from you gives more margin for error in refraction then a fish swimming sideways past you and hence better odds. And finally be careful how you retrieve the fish when you get one. Pulling the line straight back quite often allows the fish to slip off the fishing arrow due the reverse barb design, especially the cheaper one I have. So its more about being slow and careful in the retrieve. If I can reach the fish on foot I will walk out and pick the arrow up with a hand on each end and walk back to the bank. In the vid I can see your holding low but not low enough. I couldn't get it right until I started following the above rules.
When I lived in the cold country, we used to shoot a lot of carp with shotguns. Riding along beside the irrigation channels, sitting on the front rack of a quad bike smoking big carp with a 12g on the run was great fun for a young teenager!
Hey mate....long time watcher. Long time bow fisherman. I use a one pin bow fishing sight. I sight it in on land at like 15 yards.....eh....then I use that as a reference point for the amount I hold under or over. It upped my kill ratio a bunch. Give it a go......and thanks for all the deer, pig, fox, rabbit.......videos. I'm a .308 sub/LR user as well and I dig your rig. Cheers from the forests of Florida.
Great vid Nath, looks like it would be a fun way to pass some time but it would frustrated the shit out of me seeing all those mud marlin and not being able to hit one, keep at it mate you will get the hang of it cheers Yogi 👍🤘🇦🇺
The light's refraction in the water makes it a lot harder to judge where to aim than simply looking down at them makes it appear. A good pair of polarized sunglasses should help too.
An absolutely beautiful spot made more poignant by the vision of those bloody mongrel carp swanning around, until you and your mate turn up with bows. I suspect a rod and or net might have served your purposes a little better but great to watch all the same. I am sure you will master this subsonic regime just like you have with your other pursuits, good luck and keep up the great work. So many ferrels and so little time!
Great video it definitely is harder than it looks. I tried this at the start of the year. Practice with a milk bottle in the water and ull soon get the right angle
@Deb Ramage Have I got a deal for you. I have a container full of Beta videos tapes of 70s& 80s movies & TV shows. All the classics, hours of entertainment & enjoyment. All yours for just £ 10000. Cash. Anyhow I'm off to the Winchester club for VaT
I think a drag net would have been more appropriate! Not as much fun but would have cleaned out those rats of the water. Dynamite would have killed the other species!🤔
Southern Cross windmill!!! Bloody classic right there. Not trying to rub it in, but ya missed haha. Couple of sticks of gelly should sort em. Big suckers, eh. Something different, cheers Nathan
I just made a bowfishing video on my little channel Last Sunday. Been doing it for years and it's still a challange hitting those fish. At least the Tilapia I shoot taste great . Good vid mate. ✌
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK ha, well there ya go, I've been a bowhunter since I was a young fella but took up the rifle cos my knees are shit now and I can't do the hard yards like I used to.
I didn't even know that was a thing you made. You get me one, I'll 100% put it to use making a decent job of culling these carp 💪 + a pretty decent video of it too 😎
You're not taking into effect the refraction of the water. What you're seeing is a skewed perception of where the fish are. The deeper they are the lower you have to aim. At this depth, aim just below their bellies and you should be right on target. Best of luck. These carp have all but ruined our waterways here in Utah, USA.
@ edge of the outback sooo hear me out... Arrow gun, best of both worlds! I don't want hear some mumbo-jumbo about line and reel, just arrow gun a CARP for us!
I enjoyed the attempt. I had a pond at my place . There a wonderful place to night hunt Raccoon. If I shot a bow that much my arm would be flapping at the end of the day.
Beautiful spot fellas. What part of 'Stralia are you in? Also, as a pom, looking at the water, I'd keep a mile away thinking there were crocs about. Is that fear unfounded and stereotypical of me? Love the content and the way you deliver it, keep up the fantastic work.
This is the type of clip that needs to be seen by State Government Environment Departments. Allowing netting and electric Pulse barriers to clean out and protect waterways from the invasive species. One carp at a time with a bow and arrow is pissing in the wind.
Bow fishing is very selective & way more fun than what your proposing. The Govt should have legalised it years ago instead of discussing reckless ideas like releasing herpes viruses into the wild to control them.
Hey Mate. Good fishing mate, yes aim lower.Would the fish be good for bait for trapping dogs? Keep the videos coming I enjoy them all thanks from Canada.
Do a bit myself, the higher above the fish you are the less refraction occurs. Easier standing in a boat or like your mate was at the start above them.
Sorry mate I might b a crack shot with a rifle but u can’t shoot a bow for shit🤣🤣🤣 It’s definitely a practiced art so looking forward to ur nxt instalment as I have faith in you Hollywood 😉🤣🤣 Stay safe budd🤙

It a reasonable flow so I guess that helps, good mountain water.

Top video as always, love fish bow hunting, can’t wait for you to master this one 👍

Great to see some of those pests out of the waterways great vid mate
Thank you 💪
Practice and there will be results. These carp are very tasty. Greetings from Poland.
Nice change of pace Amigo.. I agree about how sweet that stream looked..

Hi Nath , yep it can be tricky bowfishing , done it years ago and going to get back into it 👍
Heaps of fun eh
In the "good old days" a stick of jelly would have sorted the whole pool. Quick smart!
I'd be up for that 💪
An old mate of my dads was once asked ' how did you lose your hand ? His reply was he was fishing and 'poof' went the bloody bait.
Awesome ,, looks like fun
Kept the fishing clips coming
I'll try 👌

More to come!

That looks like a lot of fun. I'm thinking nets and spear would be more effective?
Good video. ❤
That might be, but this was purely a day filler between night shooting 😎
Love the clearance. We need to get them out of our big lakes too, red and yellow fin . Yummo. Sea diving next?? 😊
I'm scared of sharks 😂
Quite a pretty spot for sure Nath. It looks like fun but harder than your mate makes it look, I bet.

@@arffadailey8055 lol, do you one of those machine thingys to play them????
Some people love eating carp. Need to get them into this sport to knock down the numbers.
Take a bag of floating dog food mixers and get them feeding on the top. It makes allowing for refraction a shed load easier.
That would be the go 👍🏻
That looks like fun mate. I've never tried it but my father in law used to do it a lot up in the NT and got a lot of good Barra.👌

Im too far north for carp- but Id love to try that!!!!!
I'm an avid bow fisher here in Canada. Invasive carp only. 2 rules of bow fishing: 1) aim low. 2) aim lower.
I was repeating that in my mind. But bloody hell I struggled to get under them enough.
Thanks for the video nicely done 😊✅❤️❤️ it. Great scenery, take care of yourself and family and be Blessed ❤️❤️.
Thank you! You too!
A very enjoyable video. The only thing missing, was the KFC. Kentucky Fried Carp.
😂 Dunno if I'd be keen on that
The refraction of light into water is so difficult. You have to anticipate what the actual angle will be and hope!
Oh I was hoping 😂
Robin Hood!
Stole from the rich to give to the poor!!

Lucky my mate got a heap

@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK ha, well there ya go, I've been a bowhunter since I was a young fella but took up the rifle cos my knees are shit now and I can't do the hard yards like I used to.

Its just that your need your scope on the end of the bow cobber.🤣🤠
😂 Might work, probably not 😂
Try it at night with a johnboat with lights. It's super fun.
I bet it would be
Just a beginner at it myself. The angle of the shot and depth of the fish can make it tricky to work out your point of aim.
Bow fishing is a lot of fun.
Absolutely
Im just looking into this for the same thing
I prefer a ruger 10/22 for my carp culling spent hours shooting at them as a kid in shallow water
And the bastards get big. Our river is full of the damn things.
Yeah they are a plague eh
Snells law buddy. A bit of homework on refraction needed
The aboriginals had that worked out prior to the arrival of the first fleet.
Great stuff i'm a bow hunting as we as a rifle hunting you get a big 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

For beginners you aim at the fish and you may accidentally hit another fish. Winner winner fish for cats dinner 😅
I am surprised you don't set a net and drive them to it to help remove them from the environment.
