To this day, I still have the tickets for Michael Jackson’s This Is It tour that was canceled after he passed away. I remember how excited I was, it would’ve been my first time ever seeing MJ live, something I’d dreamed about for years. I’m from a small village in remote Sri Lanka. My dad got a video cd back in the early 2000s - we played it. The scenes were crazy, girls were fainting looking at a man waving from a private jet and people screaming trying to get a glimpse of this mystical man. It was Michael! The CD had a bunch of music videos too, man they were some catchy songs. I didn’t understand anything but it was a vibe. Some of my earliest memories into music and global entertainment.
I’ve never seen fandom like that, I simply don’t think there’ll ever be a star as big as him.
