    Я хоть и русская, но просмотр этого видео помог мне понять, как именно такой поэтический текст, да и в принципе любой, может быть переведен и переводится на английский. Очень интересно, что некоторые нюансы теряются в целях того, чтобы это был правильный и общеупотребительный текст на другом языке. Например, мне кажется очень поэтичным использовать icy bones вместо cold bones, или spread out\flow out вместо простого описания того, что мозги на стене. Это конечно право переводчика так делать и нельзя сказать какой перевод верный, но официальный перевод этой песни в субтитрах получился немного сухим.

    • @NatashasAdventures
      @NatashasAdventures  4 года назад +36

      Да, некоторые особенности теряются. Например, в песне "Марш" строчка "а в глазах тоска" переведена как "my eyes are deadly sad". Видимо, так сделано, потому что в английском языке слово "тоска" имеет другое значение. Всё же, из всех переводов, которые я находила, мне больше нравится тот, что в субтитрах. Я надеюсь, что его пишут либо согласовывают, сами IC3PEAK.

    • @vexakul9536

    We have a similar proverb in Romania "bătaia este ruptă din rai" which means "beating comes from heaven". That's what parents tell their children after they complain after they were hit or mothers and fathers tell their daughters in a abusive relationships after they tell them about their abusive bfs or husbands. This is also an overly religious proverb because in fanatic households that would mean "God says so. So you must go through it."

      @missm9 3 года назад +7

      Same in Croatian, “batina je iz raja izašla”... it’s frightening when you realise how many cultures have the similar proverbs which depict the same views on domestic violence. They actually thought that you can beat the “evil” out of children and wives to make them more obedient. That was something my mother used to say to me and she learned that from her parents (mostly her father, of course, they weren’t overly religious, but it’s a saying deeply rooted in our culture) and it was “normal” back then, but it is still apparent in our society. My grandfather was working two jobs, so he had strict rules, e.g. children could not eat when he eats, they had to be quiet in their room while he was at home, they couldn’t ask him anything because it was grandmothers’ job to raise the children. If my grandmother couldn’t keep the children quiet, he would hit her and beat his children until they learned how to be obedient and respect him. Children should not be raised in such fear. Many women in my country still tolerate domestic abuse because they’re scared of their husbands and families, not to mention the judgemental society where you’re worth less if you are not a “good” wife and they always blame women for not working on their marriage. Some women cannot leave because they depend on their husbands as they are only allowed to raise children and take care of the house. I hope things will change soon for the better.

    Thank you for the video! I really like the explanations you did, how you broke it down and helped bring awareness to the issues the band was singing about. I am Irish/Ukrainian (mostly) and my family has lived in America for a few generations now. But how sad is it, that it is such a part of the culture, that my mother (who speaks almost none of the language and has never even been anywhere) has said a variant of "if he beats you, he loves you" to justify violence in the family, because that's what her father taught her. The normalization of it is truly terrifying.

    I love the video and that you're using it to create awareness about this topic. It is interesting to me that you have the saying "if he beats you, he loves you" - in Danish, we say "den man tugter elsker man" which translates to "the one you beat, (is the one) you love", and this may have come from the same issue. Luckily, in Denmark domestic violence is not socially accepted anymore and is in fact also illegal. The phrase is now jokingly said by older family when a child teases another child, and has lost the connotation of domestic abuse - at least to the younger generation, as I only just now (while watching your video) realized what it could have meant.
    I sincerely hope there will be progress in Russia with the law, so victims of domestic abuse will be more free, and there is a social pressure against it.
    In any case I enjoyed the video a lot and hope you will continue making more :) i think the Russian language is very beautiful and videos like this helps me appreciate and understand it even though I cannot currently take time to learn it.

    I love your videos and recently binge watched most of them. It is amazing how similar our cultures are at the most basic levels yet our corrupt government/corporations (people in positions of power and control - businessmen/oligarchs) want to keep us divided. Not only on national levels but in our own counties too. Thank you for sharing your life and keep up the great work! I'm sharing a true honest smile to you (not a fake one).

    Thank you, Natasha , this video is very helpful and informative. I appreciate how you pointed out the root word, and the case. I know only the alphabet and a few words, so this inspires me to learn more. Also, I love contemporary music in this style - what a powerful music video and song. Now I will listen to more of her music.

    Excellent video.I loved the way you broke down the roots. I learned so much. Although though I struggle with the structure of the language your interpretations were very clear.
    The way you include Russian culture in you explanations is not only very helpful but extremely interesting.
    While Russia is sadly behind many other countries in it's awareness and understanding of domestic violence, I'm glad to see it coming to light. I have faith that the current generation will make great strides in making the changes nessesary to bring about the nessesary laws and protections to end these family injustices.
    Don't underestimate your role. You're doing a great service through videos like this. Thankyou.

    thank you for the excellent explanation. The hardest things for non-native speakers of Russian to understand are song lyrics and poetry. This was very helpful especially understanding the roots of some of these words and your insights into why they were used in the song.

    Woah, you're making me realise new things about Russian with your analysis! It's my half-native tounge (well, i can speak _some_ of it but i end up saying nonsense most of time because i have no hold on cases, spelling, nor conjugation (and i have plenty of words mixed-up in my head; "правилам" registers as "correctly" instead of "rules")).

    Ive been learning it from various sources all over while i work at my job. RussianPod 101 is a good place to start. Ive been using the google translator too just to help pronounce certain words. I approach it like a baby learns their first words. Im not worried about spelling, just the words. Now im catching words in videos, all it takes is a trickle!! I love this language.

    I've watched the music video dozens and dozens of times, learning bits of the lyrics at a time. I've now just discovered this video and I must say it's perfect: I've really loved the vocabulary analysis and in particular the highlighting of roots (разозлиться related to злой, it's so much easier to remember now!). Thanks for this, once I'm done learning this one, Марш is next

    Natalia, Very Well Done! I very much enjoyed your complete translation of the song meaning and cultural interpretations. I also agree that changes are necessary to prevent domestic abuse. Mutual respect is of the highest importance. It is Never appropriate to resort to violence against the one you Love. I sincerely hope we can find tolerance and respect in our humanity. I very much enjoy your videos. for context, I am 72 year young man from Alaska. I have visited, Khabarovsk, Sakhalin Island, the Volga River, and was fortunate to study Russian in Rostov-on-Don for 3 months... sadly not long enough, but I have a soft spot in my heart for Russian People, including Pushkin and Checkov. :) I wish you Good Health and the Best of Luck for your future. Best Regards. Francis.

    My love for Russia came at 12 with watching Doctor Zhivago (доктор Живаго) Then when I was 14 I fell in love with тatu.
    Now I know basic Russian and practice almost daily. I collect Russian books and record albums (I love Марина жюравлёва) . The language is absolutely beautiful. I only wish ties between Russia and the United States were so much better.

    Good work, this is a great way to learn a language. Violence against any person is wrong, its especially discussing when men hurt women. Men who hurt women are not men, they are cowards. Keep up the good work and never stop fighting for what you know is right.

    You have outdone yourself here, Natalia. I am very impressed with your clear translation of the Russian language into English. I do not speak Russian, but I do speak and write the Czech language, and I am constantly surprised by how many words are shared by the two languages. This goes beyond both having a Slavic route. Thank you, also, for introducing me to this thought-provoking song. To close, I hope that you are able to visit Alaska some day. You may know that the literal Czech translation for Alaska is 'a láska,' which, in English translates to 'and love' or 'and love you.' I hope that you find much love in your life. Your videos have warmed my heart, and I thank you for that.

      Russian language has a word "ласка" (laska) - "tenderness, gentleness". Adjective "ласковый" (laskovyi) comes from it and means "gentle, kind, sweet". There's also a kind of archaic phrase "будь лаской" (bud' laskoi) that means "be a dear (and do smth)". And all I wanted to say is that word had been used as an endearment and is very close to "love" in meaning. I don't know where I was going with this, just a fun fact, I guess😅
