The rain came down before Race 1 but the track dried out quickly due to the warm and windy conditions. We went for the same tyres we used in qualifying, opting to save the 2nd set for the remaining races.
Starting on pole, we lost the lead at the start and found ourselves in P3 at the end of the opening lap. Trying to stick with the leaders was proving difficult. The chassis setup wasn't quite right and it felt like we were a little down on engine power. Half way through the race the safety car was deployed due to a kart being stranded at the final chicane. Rather than pick up the leading bunch, the safety car picked out some of the backmarkers and we were faced with around 40 karts being in between us and the safety car. On the restart it was a case of who could get through the traffic the quickest, and remarkably after 3 crazy laps of ducking and diving, the gap to the front was only over a second. The last few laps we tried to close the gap but had to settle for P2 at the line.
