Keep the unit powered while you swap the battery. There's no open high voltage, so it's quite safe for even the most inexperienced. I would avoid using a screwdriver to flip the old battery up. One slip could knock something loose, or cause a short. Gently apply a little pressure to the retention tab away from the battery with your thumb, and use your index finger to slip underneath the edge an pull up. It'll pop free with little effort.
Also, this is a good time to inspect for swollen capacitors. The tops should be completely flat. If they're curved on top, they're on their way out. If they've leaked any electrolyte (orange crusty stuff), they need replacement. That middle black cap on the left is a wee-bit swollen, but it might be awhile before it completely fails. If the unit adds noise to your signal, or it crashes or misbehaves, time to check the caps again.

The only two ways that I am aware of are to hot swap the battery or provide an alternative source of power to the battery holder while changing the battery. Be careful not to let the smoke out of it.

yeah if it was me i would solder wires to a spare battery, than connect those jumpers to the battery terminal or solder point where the battery attaches, swap the battery and than carefully remove the spare battery, could technically run both batteries in parallel and have it nearly never die

It can be done with the software via midi.
Does anyone know how to use the the dsp8024 via midi?
I already update the eprom to v1.3
Also I have the software from behringer. When trying to setup the midi on windows xp the software crashes. I can share the software if you need it to try it.
So yes. You can store at the cpu the programs and dont need the internal battery if you are using the dsp8024 via midi.
