Darius Milhaud was a genius. He wasn't your typical French composer. Love his skewed, off center harmonies. The whole symphony is excellent but the 2nd & 4th movements are especially great. Milhaud wasn't into writing soothing French pastoral music, he loved to rock out!
Interessante pezzo musicale tipico di un epoca , gli anni 30, in cui il modernismo si associa ad una nuova esigenza di solidità strutturale e di apertura all'ascolto
All of Milhaud's symphonies were the outcome of U.S. commissions (9) or of formal "requests" from France and Belgium (3). To Milhaud, they served the same income purpose as writing film scores did for numerous other composers.

And ho many film scores did Shostakovich write? Most were formal "requests" from the state (USSR). Get over it.
Actually it is played by the CBS Orchestra.
Makes sense as CBS was far more adventurous than NBC.
Wellesz has, elsewhere, uploaded a radio performance by Stokowski and the NBC Symphony.
