The trouble with living there would be finding a place to get a meal... and French food would be so hard to take. Love the ambience. The town has grown higgeldy piggeldy.
@@wanderingthomas my wife's favourite was Riquewihr. Got to admit really enjoyed it as well. Bet its great at Christmas. We stayed in Gerardmer in June/July another fantastic place and with this summers temps hitting 40's we had some great weather for the kids to hit the lake.
@@casinoheimdall9328 yes and Alsace became French under king Louis the 14th.(17th century). Before these times Colmar was part of 10 independent Alsatian cities called decapole. People speak a special dialect similar to swiss alemanic language. A lot different than Bavarian or Prussian languages and mentality... Meanwhile they feel real French rather than "German". In the middle ages Alsatian white wines were most sought for everywhere in Europe, thus the beautiful remnants that could only result from rich merchants and wine makers. When Hitler and the Nazis invaded Alsace first thing they did was: tear out the Riesling grapewines so they could not compete with the Rheingau Rieslings... So you can guess that Germans are not necessarily the Alsatian winemakers' best friends... but nowadays everybody is paying a good price for Alsatian wines including Germans lol
