It's just a huge shame what this cucumber group has put together again. If you only create two chances in 90 minutes against a third division team, you actually have no place in the Bundesliga. Gladbach has been sinking back into mediocrity for some time now. If you get a mediocre manager, a mediocre coach and mediocre players, you can't really expect anything. Against a third division team who actually only played for a maximum of 20 minutes, more should be achieved. The defeat wasn't even unfortunate, it was simply caused by completely mindless players running around. An absolutely horrifying and completely haphazard idea. Welcome back to the no man’s land of German football. I fear that the Gladbach fans will face many more years of suffering. Hopefully it's at least enough to stay in the league. The team and the coach should be ashamed of themselves, just embarrassing.
Small addition: Once again you missed a huge opportunity to qualify for Europe. The luck of the draw in the DFB Cup could once again not be used due to total ineptitude. Many Gladbach fans will certainly still painfully remember a similar opportunity in the DFP Cup in the 2000/2001 season when they were eliminated in the semi-finals against Union Berlin (then promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga) and thus miserably missed out on participation in international football.

FC Saarbrücken doing an impression of Bradford City in 2012/13 League Cup and 2014/15 FA Cup, with ex-Bradford City player Kai Brünker scoring the winner, while the current Bradford City team lose to teams at the bottom of the table as usual.
One of many examples where we have bought good players and they didn't thrive for us. Then they go to another team and play outstanding. Love to Kai for this.

You can definitely say that the 1st division teams doesn't really care about the DFB Pokal. Otherwise they wouldn't lose all to a 3rd division team. It's just lack of motivation for this cup and thats a fact.
I honestly don't think it is. The cup has a huge standing in Germany, especially for teams that aren't, you know, Bayern Munich.
I watched the games against Bayern, Frankfurt and Gladbach in their entirety.
I can't say for sure, that Frankfurt tried their hardest, because they were honestly just really, really bad.
But Bayern and Gladbach, they were trying so hard. They dominated all game long, trying to crack a team, that was playing extremely defensively. On a pitch like that, that's not an easy thing to do, even against a third tier club.
The two winners in added time (three, if you count the one in the first round against Karlsruhe) just come down to luck imo.

A lot of big upsets have to do with 1-3, just like in the Bible one third of the Angels fell, it’s like a ego crushing tactic God uses to kill Giants in a game, if Bayer leverkusan reach final they are from 1st Division and if Saarbruken reach final they are from 3rd Division so that’s 1-3 again and it would be a great giant slaying story all over again.
