Tom Robbins is one of the great novelists of our generation. One of my favorite Tom Robbins quotes (from Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates) explains why. "Everything in the universe is connected, of course. It's a matter of using imagination to discover the links, and language to expand and enliven them."
Whenever people gave me shit about smoking, I used to quote Tom Robbins: “Three of the four elements are shared by all creatures, but fire was a gift to humans alone. Smoking cigarettes is as intimate as we can become with fire without immediate excruciation. Every smoker is an embodiment of Prometheus, stealing fire from the gods and bringing it on back home..”....Man, I was a cringey kid, lol.

I was at that Doors concert in July 1967 at Eagles Auditorium. I love this video and its true that we were totally unprepared. It was one of the most amazing concerts I've ever attended (right up there with Hendrix and the Cream). I was 17 and of course, wanted to turn the world on its edge, embracing the counter cultural. Later I became a fan of Tom's novels and have remained one since. I was fortunate to meet him a few times at various Seattle art events during the 1980s via my participation at And/Or Arts, Seattle. Thank you, Tom!

I can only hope that, upon learning of my imminent execution, Good Samaritans in Colorado will be moved to ship me a plump love apple from their backyard patch - and should they happen to be friendly with Hunter S. Thompson, perhaps persuade him to inject it with a little something beforehand. I don't think I've ever read something so wanky and so wrong as this comment. Tom's writings are pure magic; his ability to so freely use words as to open one's mind to all the smells, sounds, sensations, emotions and vibes etc. of the universe from the paper of his pages, and to do so so damn entertainingly, educationally and inspiringly is better than anyone else I've read. Maybe read some of his work before you spew into the world any more self-righteous, poisonous bile from your face-anus.
Tom Robbins' writing just goes right over your head, Stephen. You are unable to grasp the humor and spirituality of it. Probably not the only bus you've missed.

@@harrisonhoudesheldt5212 Well said Swedgelord. At least someone has some critical faculties in full working order.

Tom Robbins and Jim Morrison, both paying the bills by serving up adolescent ejaculations into the throats of adolescent losers.

The definition of a hack. A horrible piece of writing, this - curated with great care from his vast oeuvre of unrelenting juvenile nonsense.
Stephen Payne you’re a fucking moron.
