    Dude thank you so much for making this video bro. I usually NEVER comment or like videos, but i respect your videos and how hard you work to make them and explain this stuff.
    I am looking for a SCART for my PS1 to use with the GBS-C and im so torn between these or OEM Sony ones for 80-90$ which i think is just a little too much. I really appreciate you doing what you do even if it feels like its so hard to grow as a channel I actually prefer a channel of your size more for realistic reviews

      Thanks so much, really appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment! I’ve really enjoyed the RGB experience with the PS1. Will be doing a new gameplay video on it down the road, similar to the ones I’ve recently done with the SNES and N64.

      Thanks! Yeah even to this day I’m still changing settings and trying things with the 5X Pro. Not too long after this video posted they made a giant update to the firmware that added a ton of new features. That’s when I started to mess around with the 1080p Over Output mode more, which I’ve grown to like a lot.

    Great comparison video! Did you connect the scart directly to the retrotink 5x pro? I just got my first ever ps1/ps2 and im still new with the setup. I’d like to get scart cable but I’ve read some articles that scart needs to be converted to rgb.

    • @RetroBoost
      @RetroBoost Год назад

      SCART Cables are the medium for which an RGB Signal is taken, so no need for a converter. You just need to be sure that the console in question can handle the cable without modding. Like how the N64 requires an RGB Mod but the SNES and PS1 don’t.
      In this video, I ran the SCART right from the console to the 5X Pro directly. Since then I’ve changed my set up, and have an RGB2COMP that I use to convert SCART into Component so I can have everything run through my Extron Switches. That way changing consoles is as simple as a button press and I don’t need to swap any cabling.

    The diamond pattern is ps1 dithering. Nothing to do with the cable or box. It's just more noticeable when cleaned up.

      Awesome. It was the first time I had seen such clean PS1 gameplay, when I got that RGB cable making this video, very cool.

    Would you say it's worth investing in a solid cable (Not taking Composhit into account, I mean like Aliexpress RGB vs Packapunch ones) if my scaler is a 70$ GBS-C? With a clock generator and all that extra flavour. But it's no 300$ RetroTink.

    The composite also looked significantly darker. Did you have to use a different capture setup for it?

    • @RetroBoost
      @RetroBoost 2 года назад

      Same Capture Card, same general settings for the RetroTink (Generic 4:3). Same capture settings using OBS as well. All I did was change the inputs on the RetroTink and swap the cables, nothing else was changed.

    That checkerboard pattern is called dithering and was standard practice on psx to reduce color banding. And due composite video quality dithering is blurred and less visible.

      Very cool, that’s good to know! Thanks for the information!

      @@RetroBoost so if you see dithering it basicly means your cable is good quality😉

      That’s good to be aware of, because I’ve ordered the SNES version of this same cable. Thanks for the info! I’ve read and seen terms like “dithering” before, but never seen a proper example for myself.

      @@RetroBoost another name of dithering is 'noise shaping', it's trick used to fool us and make impression there is more colors on screen(bigger depth).

      @@RetroBoost i bought the RGB scart cables for snes/MD2 and PS2/3 for my scart TV - do u think i'll see a difference vs the OEM composite

    • @RetroBoost
      @RetroBoost 7 месяцев назад

      I would think so. Can’t vouch for a Scart Capable tv personally, but on a flatscreen the difference is huge. I played a bunch of SNES and PS1 on a Sony PVM using scart that broke out into BNC once, and the quality on that tv was amazing, it was very defined. Scart and Component are so much more efficient than composite.

    Thanks everyone for watching! It has been an interesting and educating journey making content. One thing I've come to learn is the impact RUclips's Compression can have on the footage from all these Retro Enhancement Devices. Keep in mind that some detail is always lost with compression. My commentary is in response to what I've experienced from playing on my TV and watching the Raw Capture Files. I've added this info to the description of videos going forward, but wanted to post this comment to all the videos prior to that change. Thanks again for watching, I really appreciate it!

    why use scart over component? i notice alot of ppl use scart instead

    • @RetroBoost
      @RetroBoost 2 года назад

      They are very similar, seeing as both separate the video information. They separate the information a little differently, but they both do it in one way or another. When you do research, you see claims that either is better, so at this point in the retro gaming world I think it comes down to preference, and the console being used. For my it was availability, I just couldn’t get my hands on any higher end shielded component cables, still can’t. These scart cables were available. Once I finally get possession of a component cable for my SNES I’ll do a comparison.

      @@juanc.3372 That was my exact problem and what led me to doing scart first. I want to eventually get component mainly because of how simple that will be to integrate into my Extron set up, less messy vs scart. But for short term, scart produces such excellent quality. I just got it set up yesterday running in the dedicated SNES sampling mode in the 1080p Over Output mode, fitted to my screen thanks to the new scaling and cropping feature that came with the 5X Pro’s latest firmware. It’s awesome. Subjective whether that’s better than what I show in this video, but I think it is even better. I’ll be showing that in a future video when I talk about that new RetroTINK firmware. I just became aware of the changes last week and am still experimenting.
